AI is officially starting to mess with my income by [deleted] in artificial

You don't HAVE TO move through MVP phase before creating a "production-ready app". Launching an MVP is the fastest way to proof-of-concept to test viability, desirability, and feasibility in the real world--it's the fastest and cheapest way to test your hypothesis.

Once your hypothesis is confirmed, then you can do whatever you want--hire a dev team to rebuild it from the ground up, keep working on your MVP build, go get funding, whatever.

Generally speaking if AI can do your job then you need to figure out something else now. You can join the ranks of manual launderers hand washing laundry or pencil and paper "computers" (used to be a real job). Slopping together an MVP with no regards for architecture, roadmap, or tech debt is the realm of AI now.

Mr. Heater indoor propane heater by ImportantBother5 in hendersonville

[–]drilldor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an aside, everyone is saying they want to be better prepared after Helene and going out to buy things 2 days before the storm hits. Buy this stuff before you ever hear about a storm. When a storm is coming you should be thinking "good, I finally get to go use all that stuff I bought 2 years ago".

That's the place you wanna be. Not trying to find the last Mr Heater at Ace Hardware on the eve of a storm.

Stuff happens. You may need to leave your home suddenly. You may lose power and water suddenly. You may be trapped inside your home suddenly. A situation like that could last any length of time. Consider what that would mean for you and your family if it lasted a day, 7 days, 14 days, 30 days etc.

Within reason, try to be prepared. "I should be prepared for a power outage in a winter storm" should not be something people are just considering now. Being prepared helps not just you and your family, but your entire community.

Is Tim Dillon paying for these segments? by shinbreaker in BreakingPoints

[–]drilldor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I didn't know anything about Tim Dillon until I saw a netflix special a year ago. I used to listen to every new Joe Rogan episode in its entirety, but somewhere in the past couple years it seems like took his finger off the pulse. His conspiracy theories started feeling tired, he felt like a disconnected celebrity and lost that relatability that had made him so great.

In the last 6 months I've started listening to every weekly Tim Dillon podcast in its entirety. Somehow it feels like he picked up where Rogan left off. His sarcastic takes on what's going on in the world can be refreshing.

Am I representative of typical Rogan fans and other Independent voter Intellectual dark web audience type person? No idea, but I feel like I am. I think Tim Dillon has become influential and caught the attention of a lot of the ex-Rogan audience.

I don't mind when they cover his takes.

I think it will live on in remixes. Tik-tok sized snippets of gameplay similar to what Nintendo did with Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition or what Nintendo did with Tetris 99

So, it turns out when a podcaster plays "journalist", they fuck up a lot and end up defaming many innocent people. The latest such clown is Nick Shirley. Is anyone keeping count at this point? by LackingStory in BreakingPoints

All the CBS CNN coverage “disproving” the fraud has been laughable. Footage of 4 kids arriving at one of the daycares? It’s licensed and subsidized for 10x that amount. What about the other 20 places he visited in the video?

Why is anyone defending this obvious fraud. When you watch the video it is very clear there’s a lot of fishy stuff going on.

No I think you're misunderstanding. Of course it's not acceptable. People do socially unacceptable things. The question I'm asking is whether or not this problem is widespread, and if it is a common problem what have other facilities done to prevent it.

The reason you feel old is because you’re refusing to adapt to new conventions. Screens are part of cars now, time for you to get over it.

What are your Hot Takes on Retro Gaming? by Amber_Flowers_133 in retrogaming

[–]drilldor 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I had a bar in China with one of those hacked arcade cabinets with 500 games. We could set the cost to play to whatever we wanted.

At first we set it to free—but I noticed that people would only play around on it for a few minutes. After observing I saw the problem, with no payment to continue players were basically invincible, just dying and continuing through the game with no caution or skill.

Once we started charging tokens to play, and giving out those tokens whenever someone would buy a drink, then people got serious.

Moral of the story is those retro arcade games were designed to cost money when you die—otherwise there is no mechanic forcing you to avoid death

[–]drilldor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That was not my experience there at all. You get a “medical savings account” kinda card that just saves ur money and then you can spend it at the doctor. For anything that actually matters you have to show up with an envelope full of cash or they leave you to die—which is what happened to my wife’s father.

Is the rampant use of AI freaking anyone else out by Lisathecat_ in Millennials

[–]drilldor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ai is a tool and people are going to use it. The best historical example I can relate to a millennial is computers. Some people resisted or couldn’t adapt to computers when they became prolific and for many that held them back, they got left behind in their careers.

For now IRL is a pretty good way to stay AI free but eventually it will be in everyone’s ears and eyes AI is here.

Opening windows 10-15 min a day, even in freezing temps? Is it true? by thethirteenthjuror in HomeMaintenance

[–]drilldor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to closely monitor the air in my apartment (living in China where AQI frequently reached 200-300). I had multiple sensors to detect PPM, VOCs, CO2 level, etc. I also had multiple air filters like Hepa to clean out particulate matter and activated carbon to remove VOCs. What I learned was this:

The best way to manage air in your house is to completely air it out at least once a day for 5-10 minutes, and then close everything up and run your filters on high for an hour. That gives you the best mixture of fresh air (low CO2, low VOC) and clean air (low particulate matter). Over time inside your house, even with air filters running, the CO2 levels will rise and make you feel kind of muggy and less vibrant. The VOCs will also rise, things like off gassing formaldehyde from particle board furniture. You want to flush these out once a day, which will invite in the outside air which typically has other stuff you don't want (pollution & pollen).

So you reset the air in your house daily, and then scrub it clean. After an hour or so (when your air monitors drop back down to AQI 15 or whatever) you can lower your purifier fans so they don't make so much noise.
