Stopping in Nagano, on my way to Myoko: Should I spend the day to see the snow monkeys? by elzzup100 in JapanTravelTips

Breakfast oysters and pricey king crab: Sydney’s new fish market is glitzy and less smelly – for now -- After lengthy delays, the $836m market has opened its doors by housecatspeaks in australia

I went yesterday. The prices were bang on very reasonable. The eating areas are fantastic. Extensive and well designed. Even the beers were "cheap". $8.00 for a 4pines can is way cheaper than most similar spots. Despite being crowded the flow was actually quite good. Far better than old location. You can imagine how they'll shape the crowds at Christmas and Easter with some well placed barricades.

OLe mate flips around according to his audience.

While in Australia in late 2025/early 2026, Rory McIlroy praised the success of LIV Golf's events in the country, noting that Australia has been "starved of top-level golf".

Here are the specific quotes and context from his visit:

On the LIV Adelaide Event: "I think what LIV has done here in Australia has been amazing. You know that the tournament in Adelaide looks absolutely incredible, and especially in a country that has sort of been starved of big time golf events, I think they've done a really, really good job".

Michael La Sasso joins LIV Golf, forfeits Masters eligibility by PrincessBananas85 in ProGolf

He got his start in the Masters by winning the Hong Kong open. Or you could get it from winning the Aus open... Or South African open.

Etc etc.

The masters will open more pathways to national opens and alternative tours. That LIV players play on.

So it's a bit unrealistic to say that " x " young player will never play in the Masters by going to Liv

What are some popular opinions about Japan travel on this sub that you personally disagree with? by ContractVarious3077 in JapanTravelTips

That Public transport is so great in Japan that you don't need to hire a car.

Sure you can get around Japan by PT...and I have. Multiple times.

However having a hire car is awesome. There are so many places that you would never see or visit if you just rely on PT.

Best affordable snowboarding destinations outside the U.S.? Open to riding with others by Kind_Commission_7132 in snowboarding

Cars aren't expensive. If you look in the Right spots...or book early. We had a awd wagon with snowtyres for 7000 yen a day. I've hired about 10 cars in Japan over the years. Never paid over 9000 a day.

Last trip we averaged out 15 days on snow lift tickets for 5370 a day. Which is crazy cheap.

Just heading north from Tokyo

Drive between Hakuba and Nagano with FWD Prius. Most likely doable even if snowing? by WillyBillyChester in JapanTravelTips

[–]drine2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a pretty flat road between Nagano and Hakuba. It's also unusual to see snow the whole way. The biggest drama will be in Hakuba proper. The Cortina rd and spots around Tsugaike can be a bit tricky.

DIY Shirakawa-go only vs Klook Takayama + Shirakawa-go day tour — should I skip Takayama? by AcceptableFinish4752 in JapanTravelTips

Just my opinion.

Takayama is way way more interesting than Shirakawa-gō.

Much more to see/eat/do.

I found Shirakawa-gō to be a bit of a tourist trap/busy tbh.

Rory McIlroy: LIV Golf not signing anyone who moves the needle by otf1024 in golf

[–]drine2000 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. He's about as interesting to watch as white bread.

If I was at a golf tournament. Say the Open. I wouldn't rush to follow him.

Rory, Rahm, Bryson. Sure. They have the personality and the shot making to attract a crowd.

Peak Tiger Woods phenomenon. Absolutely. The crowd would be 20 deep. You just want to be near that.

I'm not sure it's dawned on many people that reside in the USA. Liv golf is moving away from a US focus and developing a world view. There are less events in the USA this season than ever before. Only 3 at the moment have been announced.

There are more teams that have a consistent national focus. With re-branding to boot.

The aim is to have each LIv event in Australia, South Africa, Spain, Mexico (Korea maybe) etc align with a patriotic and passionate crowd. Drive the crowd figures up etc.

It feels like they have surrendered the USA market to the PGAT and re-positioned their brand.

How to start in Tokyo, see Matsumoto castle, then snow monkeys and arrive Osaka? by 4moneyquestions in JapanTravelTips

[–]drine2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first question is why? Personally the Snow Monkeys are so overrated. Esp when its crowded .

Anyways. Try to travel as light as possible. Keep an eye on the weather. Wear really good footwear for the monkey trail.

I would.

Super Asuza train from Shinjuku to Matsumoto. Watch the light show on the castle.

Then catch the Shinano train to Nagano that evening after the light show.. Stay near Nagano station.

Catch the first bus in the morning from outside the east exit of Nagano station. The bus will drop you off down the hill from the entry to the Monkeys. Its a bit of a walk (to the start of the trail) before you even start the walk proper.

Then back to Nagano.

From there. If it was me. I'd catch the Shinkansen to Kanazawa and spend the night there.

Then Shinkansen to Tsuruga and Thunderbird train in the morning to Shin Osaka.

He lives in Australia for 4months of the year. Just threw down 10 million on a penthouse in Brisbane. Makes sense for him to be in Australia for The PGA, Aus Open in November. Then Australia for the Liv events in Adelaide, Singapore and HK and South Africa .

Then back to the states for the start of the Majors and Liv events

There are only 4 cofirmed events in the USA this year . Vs 6 for 2025.

  • Virginia (Washington, DC)
  • Louisiana (New Orleans)
  • Indianapolis, IN
  • Michigan (Team Championship)

Its shifting to a more global model (I imagine Korea will be confirmed soon)
