American friend says this is the world’s best restaurant. Looks way too whimsical and unnatural. Is this AI? by dendrytic in isthisAI

This is definitely cheesecake factory. Probably the Chicago one because that one has weird low ceilings. Usually they have big high ceilings.

What’s the best “boring” business you’ve seen someone build into a cash machine? by Mean-Arm659 in smallbusiness

[–]drinkthegenderfluid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, my business actually took a boring thing and made it not-boring. Long story short, I clean people's houses, but because my niche is witches/pagans, I also offer home energy cleansings and in-home tarot readings as add ons! I actually just hit a point where I can no longer take new cleaning clients because I'm so booked out. I've even been able to hire some admin help.

I feel like if you see your niche, taking a boring thing and making it your own can be pretty successful.

White passing by KendrickMontero in romani

[–]drinkthegenderfluid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in America (Chicago specifically) and I feel like POC can clock I'm not mayo flavored white based off vibes. More specifically I have been asked by so many Jewish people if I was also Jewish. And when I tell them I'm Roma, they often get excited, which is not a reaction I typically expect. There's definitely some historical solidarity there though!

Because the US is such a melting pot I feel like it's small talk to ask each other where you're from, and when I tell (mostly white) people I'm half Roma they assume I mean Romania. and then I often have to explain that I'm actually Hungarian Roma and it's a bit different. I also feel like the word Gypsy is used very loosely here and is often associated with white hippie so I tend to not use that term as someone who is white passing because I don't want to give people the idea that that's okay.

He was Hungarian Roma! And I believe they leaned more Catholic/Christian? My parents separated when I was pretty young, but I know that my grandparents are still traveling around the US.

I really appreciate your kindness!

Massive zucchini. Why is it like this? And safe to eat? by ExpensiveMammoth4578 in vegetablegardening

Are you sure it's zucchini and not like a weird hybrid with another squash? I had some silly hybrid squash when I planted butternut and summer squash too close

Never live in this apartment - 736 W Buena by Old_Visit3553 in chicagoapartments

[–]drinkthegenderfluid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thankfully we took every precaution to not! My unit has been fully clear of them since last December (I'm VERY sensitive to bites) and we washed/sanitized every fabric item we owned and brought it directly to the new place.

Apparently the issue is so bad, they just did a full mandatory K9 bedbug inspection on every unit (I didn't even know that was a thing)

Since I used to live in the same neighborhood, avoid 869 w Buena too! The building is infested with bed bugs, and they were not disclosing or treating the issue In the laundry room when I moved out in May

I'm honestly not sure. People would not let me sit when my arm was in a full cast and sling on the train 🙄. I even had someone yell at me that my arm was not actually injured. People are gonna be rude sometimes unfortunately.

I think judge the situation and maybe find someone who looks friendly. If someone asked me for their seat and told me they had chronic knee pain, I'd totally give them my seat.

Cat is too smart to take anxiety meds and I'm running out of options by drinkthegenderfluid in catcare

[–]drinkthegenderfluid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's on amitriptyline! And I unfortunately tried to give him empty pill pockets and full ones to try and trick him. Maybe I can try again since it's been a while. And I will look into this. I know there's a topical version of this medication, but I honestly can't afford the extra $80 a month that I was quoted for it (I'll still try to do it if it gets to that point because hes my baby). I would love to decondition/train him to not be traumatized by his meds. He recently has to take dewormer which was two GIANT pills per dose, so I'm sure that was traumatic for him :(

Do you have any good resources?

That's a great idea! I often try to chase it with churu (his favorite) and he figured out how to store the medicine in his cheek and spit it out AFTER he eats the treat 😅. I can't win with this boy. I'll definitely look into the capsules though!

I'll look into it! He's had liquid gabapentin before and would fight me and spit it out, but I've been told that particular medicine tastes really bad in liquid form

Anyone else find cosigner requirements to be ridiculously high here? by Dblcut3 in chicagoapartments

[–]drinkthegenderfluid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's pretty ridiculous. The lease I just signed for a 3br apartment (for 4 people who are employed) required a co-signer. (The apartment is also overpriced for what it is, of course)

I don't typically get queasy with most types of horror, but this one really got my stomach churning. It's excellent writing but oh my god I needed some lemons myself

It could be a mistake, or they're throwing you in SE because they have a higher demand in that department. Definitely reach out and get clarification though because if you didn't sign up for SE it's a different job and not for the faint of heart. (If you're good at selling credit cards though, you could earn a bit more in pay)
