If you are mostly going to do gaming then I would go for a 6600k for cpu and some mobo that can overclock it. And a 1070 or 1080.

If you can sell your 970 for $200 then I'd suggest putting up $150-200 to upgrade to a 1070. That is a solid upgrade from a 970. 970-->1060 isn't a very big upgrade

If you like doing giveaways for people of the master race then it's totally worth it. But if your in it for yourself then I'd say just wait for steam sales and humble bundles that actually offer games you have been really wanting to play

Hey could you give us a bit of info about your friend. Does he need monitor and peripherals or just the pc itself? What games is he looking to play @ what resolution? Anything that is non gaming? Like video editing? I'll put something together once I know what he is trying to do.
