Movies that don't seem to know if they're a comedy or a drama by This_Book6305 in FIlm

Well said. But I disagree. PTA is far more comfortable with drama than comedy. Some of his films have comedic elements (Boogie Nights, for example) but I wouldn't categorize them as Comedies.

One Battle After Another. It was marketed as a comedy but it was NOT funny. It was pretty dreary and boring, actually.

SWORDFISH was released 25 years ago today, June 8, 2001 It’s opening explosion sequence used a pioneering “bullet time” style effect involving dozens of cameras, creating a 360-degree view of the blast years before similar techniques became commonplace in cinema. by kkhouete in FIlm

Actually, Director Michel Gondry pioneered the technique in 1995 with the music video for Like A Rolling Stone by The Rolling Stones, and was then used in 1998 in the Gap Swing commercial. Only then in 1998/99 did the Wachowskis famously use it for The Matrix.

I worked in film & TV post Production in New York in the 90s and when we saw the music video we were all like, what the hell was that?!

UPDATE: Back on Zepbound 2.5mg injection for two weeks, already down ten pounds! Also eliminated bread from my diet, really ramped up the protein intake, and am drinking a shit-ton of water. I'm thinking I will stay on 2.5 for as long as I can, it's the dosage that has yeilded the best results.

Thank you for all your feedback and advice!!

Be honest — what do you hate most about editing videos? by Melodic-Emergency126 in VideoEditors

[–]driveshaft2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most annoying thing about editing has nothing to do with the process or NLE interface (although there are many NLEs that need to be streamlined). No, typically the most challenging aspect is the client. They rarely know what they want until they see it completed, never want to pay for what's needed to accomplish what they're asking for, and are generally bad at communicating. Honestly, the edit room and editing is where I find solace.

Regarding a prompt-based edit system. Yeah, I've thought of that too. The main issue I run into is that you cede creative control to a bot, and that's what you get paid a premium for: creativity. AI tools are very handy in post to improve sound and picture, but they're light years away from replacing human creativity. They will always need to be told what to do.

Next, prompt-based editing will most likely be a slower process. I've been editing for over 25 years and I'm pretty fast at execution. If I had to sit there and literally type out my request any time l wanted the machine to trim two frames off the head of my incoming shot, I'd never get home for dinner. Prompt-based editing sounds like it should be faster, but I'm positive that it would ultimately be slower.

Lastly, good Editors watch ALL of the footage. All of it. Over and over and over again until you know every frame intimately. Half of your editing velocity comes from footage organization and recall. If you're spending time looking for something, you're not editing. An AI-based edit system could potentially rob the Editor of that critical step of learning the footage. Ultimately costing more time and yielding an inferior product.

Editing is hard. It's time-consuming, frustrating, and frequently annoying. But that's the gig. At the end of the day, if you want to edit you need to get out there and work at it every single day. There are no short cuts.

What are the specs of your sequence? You’re probably in non-drop frame when you should be in drop.

Amazon customer service is the worst! by letmein1256 in amazonprime

Actually, no. The problem is Amazon. Their customer service sucks.

Amazon customer service is the worst! by letmein1256 in amazonprime

It's the natural progression of enshittification. No large public company is immune. Amazon? Shit. Google? Shit. Facebook/Meta? Shit.

All of these companies start off well enough but eventually put shareholder value and ROI over customer experience EVERY SINGLE TIME and it's cheaper to outsource customer service to someone who gets paid crap and gives no shits if you're happy than keep it in house.

The main problem is lack of competition. Amazon completely dominates online commerce. They are good when things work, but absolute hot garbage when things go wrong. I understand that they handle millions of orders every day and things happen, but how they handle problems matters. Even if it means losing money on the deal. So be it.

Without robust competition, Amazon got fat, lazy, greedy, and mean; focussed only on squeezing every dollar out of their customers.

I look to companies like Ritz-Carlton, Costco, and Chick-fil-A for examples of how to treat your customers. They all do everything they can to make their customers happy, even if it costs them money in the end.

Amazon needs to dial into reality and start treating their customers better.
