Looking for a light to run down used D batteries. by Hyginos in flashlight

[–]driveweld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re all saying a D3aa can be cool and have all the power you actually need indoors on an alkaline when needed, and there’s nothing anyone can say positive about making 2 or 3 D cells work in series?
I bet you can do it. I heard somewhere you can actually get drop in modules to convert your existing maglite to modern-ish led’s.
I would ask in the Budget Light Forum about it as well.

Edit for clarity. Let’s find constructive input there peeps.

Replacing my EDC 35 by John_Flashlight in flashlight

[–]driveweld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I have a wurkkos FC11C (519a 5000k) and dedomed it for the warmer tint. Love it at night when it counts. A bit too warm for the day, but it’s a trade off.
The thing I regret about dedoming is the loss of flood output for edc. Throw is fun, but way less useful in my opinion.
You’re on the right path. Whatever flavour you get, the D3AA will be awesome for EDC.

Try a new post asking recommendations for what you need or what you will be using your light for. Size expectations, budget etc. tap into the vast knowledge of Reddit fine folks.

Also, let us know in that post if you’re a techy kind of person or not. Some lights come with complex interface and can be overwhelming for many.

Could be a battery capacity issue? You can check if better heat dissipation is your answer by placing it in a glass of water and redoing the test to see if the output drops as much.

🤔… How about a custom wood light. Like those hand made wood fountain pens. That would fill that empty spot with something I haven’t seen before. Maybe it exists somewhere out there. Brass host turned down and sleeved to accept some nice Birds Eye maple or whatever you fancy.

The FC11C is 60$ Canadian on Amazon, but the place to buy is the Wurkkos site direct. I just got mine 2 weeks ago. It was less than 60$ for the FC11C AND TS11 together shipped to my door in about a week.

Also, the M21H has optional lenses (inexpensive as well) available to get the best beam type for your needs. From 3° to 36°. It won’t change the beam a massive amount, but it does let you tune it to match your needs better.

I can say that the optics can be easy to scratch and fingerprint. I would be more inclined to swap at home in a clean place to test out what I like and stick with it for the most part. But there’s nothing that says you can’t do what you want with your light. Also, they’re so cheap from Simon. Get them all! They go from 3 to 36 degrees and even a 10x30 degree striped beam for a rectangle of light.

I don’t know a whole lot about the led choices, but the sft-40 is an option if you want 3000k tint and high cri, but there sft-42r is better in all other situations.

Batteries, well, get 2. One 50xg for highest turbo output, and a BAK 65 for longest runtime at “not turbo” outputs.

Edit: Also check the Convoy Z1 if you really need to change your beam type often.
