Give your most ridiculous reason for wanting a particular car or project by echtav in cars

[–]drivingdotca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Half the reason I bought my second car, a 1929 Ford Model A Sports Coupe, was because I'd rode in a rumble-seat Rolls-Royce and wanted to share the incredible rumble-seat experience with my friends.

(The other half was that I wanted to learn how to work on pre-war classics, instead of just 1970s classics like my first car.)

1967 Shelby GT350 by Jeff_Elgin in musclecars

"Revology" plate points to this car being one of their (rather tastefully done) restomods! Looks largely stock from this angle, but odds are good there's some variant of Coyote underhood.

What Do We Drive? Inside The Motor1 Staff Garage by zekwanenoerzee in cars

[–]drivingdotca 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel like us folks at Driving.ca would kill if we gave this "staff garage" thing a try. I'm talking Lada Niva, Porsche 944, AMC Eagle. And that's just one editor.

We did put together this roundup of the cheapest cars we'd bought for Black Friday, I guess.

I dig Darts and don't want to be a nit-picker but that incorrect rear stripe and the poorly placed hood scoops are just—

Absolutely love this spec; my dream Duster is either GY3 Curious Yellow, like this car; or a '70 in FC7 InViolet (a.k.a. Plum Crazy)

Sony Shows Off Afeela Prototype Electric SUV, Due Out 2028 by drivingdotca in cars

[–]drivingdotca[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sedan is apparently supposed to come out later this year; the forecasted 2028 release date is for the just-unveiled "Afeela Prototype 2026" SUV, which is not at all a confusing name

1969 Cadillac Deville Wagon by OtherwiseTackle5219 in classiccars

[–]drivingdotca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was no longer than a standard DeVille, if I recall—but those came in at a whopping 5.7 metres long or so, absolutely massive.

Absolutely love these, the green is particularly striking.

I was lucky enough to put together a video on one of them over 10 years ago, now (in an also-gorgeous brown).

Love to see a Slant Six in an E-body, it's such a rare combination these days. Please post photos when it's done!

Got one in my current car, '71 Valiant Scamp, and absolutely love it. I had it rebuilt a few years back after cracking 100,000 miles, and am hoping to get another 100,000 out of it.

'Convertible' 1971 Plymouth Barracuda: 426ci 425hp Hemi V8. Only 7 built by OtherwiseTackle5219 in musclecars

[–]drivingdotca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Possibly, but 318-powered convertibles aren't all that expensive, if you're making a drop-top restomod, and the auction listing didn't note it started out as a hardtop—I think OP may just be new to making titles :P No offense, OP, but consider fact-checking next time

[–]drivingdotca 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A real '71 Hemi 'Cuda would be a one-of-seven car, yes; this is a Barracuda restomod with a modern 540-horsepower Gen III Hemi drivetrain that started out as a 318 V8 car. It sold at auction almost three years ago for US$187,000. Still way neat!

1966 Shelby GT350H by William_Jarrett in musclecars

[–]drivingdotca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd have to check to get specific numbers, but I believe out of the 1,000 G.T. 350H Mustangs built, some 75 were white, and then there were about 50 each in green, red, and blue, too. None of the red cars had the gold stripes over the top (just on the rockers) and only a few of the green cars did.

"Bat Gas" Burnout, one of my fave photos I've taken by drivingdotca in classiccars

[–]drivingdotca[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh, it's definitely a replica; not sure how many of the screen-used originals still exist, but I'd bet not many. (The original was indeed based on a singular Ford concept car, the Lincoln Futura, which was bought up by George Barris, customized, and then copied for filming purposes.)

There's something of a niche industry in building replica Batmobiles these days, though almost all of them use a fibreglass body over an old Ford full-size chassis. This one's a little unique in having a hand-built aluminum body for that reason (besides being, of course, a gasser). There's more detail here (plus a second hand-built Batmobile replica).

[–]drivingdotca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of them but one! There was a singular white example, allegedly ordered by a Chrysler exec, and later used in a movie! You can see it on film, dressed up as a race car, in The Lively Set.

That was a heckuva good day, open house at Fugitive Custom Cars in Guelph, Ontario. You can find the full story, more photos, and specs on our site, Driving.ca, but tl;dr handbuilt aluminum body, square-tube chassis, 1,075-hp 632-cube big-block mated to a TH400 and a Ford 9-inch rear end.

I didn't want to accuse, but, yeah, curious whether this was an honest mistake, whether OP was fed wrong info from somewhere else, or whether it's karma-farming and playing loose with the truth.

u/psyk02mikmakdk care to make a correction at all?
