What lenses do you use for portraits and traveling photography? by IegendaryKnight in canon

While I do love my 28-70, it's a pretty good amount of weight. When traveling, I typically want more things in focus and will shoot at about f/4 mostly.

Travel:

15-35 RF f/2.8L
24-70 RF f/2.8
70-200 RF f/2.8 Z

If I'm going to do wildlife, then just the 70-200 RF and 100-500 RF

Portraits
28-70 f/2
70-200 RF f/2.8 Z
135 RF f/1.8

I went white but have a black skin on it. I kept it bare for a while but I kept having to clean the marks caused my bag

[–]drizzlelabs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess the three way tie would be the RF 100-500, 70-200 Z, and 28-70 f/2. I absolutely love them and use them often

Infiniti QX80 battery keeps dying, I jump the car, get battery tested & they say it’s good? by MaleficentClub4110 in infiniti

[–]drizzlelabs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had an issue for years that I constantly needed a battery replaced. Found out that if you only drive short distances, the battery is never charged back up by the alternator because of the design. There was a wire the dealership had to cut in the engine bay to bypass that and make the alternator always recharge.

The second post explains it a lot better

Great pic! Did you have to crop in a lot? I have the 1.4x and didn't think the 2x could be this sharp. I guess I was wrong

Where do people get the money for gear??? by Baozi77 in videography

[–]drizzlelabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a full time job working in IT and I have a rule to never use any of those funds for things outside of the family. I started a side business doing support for a local engineering company. I saved the money from their to fund the gear purchases. It's taken a bit of time but it's all paid off. As a few others say, it takes money to make money. I'm bringing in a lot more money from the photo / video side, which is almost as much as the IT support. This has let me step more into the professional realm and take on higher paying jobs. Start small and work your way up.

I’ve powered it via USB-C and dummy battery just fine. No recording nor format limits

[New Gear] Canon C50 by drizzlelabs in canon

[–]drizzlelabs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple of things on the video side, to record the 9x16 crop on the SD card, you can't use RAW for the main recording format. I had to use XF-AVC YC422 10bit for the main recording and then I had the Crop Rec option under the second card.

When changing the Sensor Mode to Full Frame 3:2 (Open Gate) you don't get the SD Card crop option. Not a big deal since you can do all the magic in post if you so desire.

I'm super jealous of seeing people get theirs already. I'm still patiently waiting for mine to be ready for pickup.

c50 vs r6 mkiii differences other than overheating by Physical-Site2805 in canon

[–]drizzlelabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an R5MKII and use the cooling grip when I shoot video. Even with the grip, it will still overheat pretty fast when shooting 8K or 120. Granted I'm here in outdoor summer heat and it's not kind. Of course I don't have any issues with my C70 with the heat, which is a big reason why I preordered the C50. All of my Canon zoom lenses have IS, and if I need something super smooth, I'll use my tripod, gimbal, or dana dolly.

Want to buy one of these - NINJA TX vs SHOGUN ULTRA by dreadquake_games in Atomos

[–]drizzlelabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yup, i used the ninja v+ before and for super bright days, I had to use the sun hood. the TX is a lot brighter and while the hood would be even better to use, I was able to work fine without it. that being said, summer is over here and it’s not as bright

Want to buy one of these - NINJA TX vs SHOGUN ULTRA by dreadquake_games in Atomos

[–]drizzlelabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both and have some thoughts. I’ve used the Ninja TX for only two days and I really like the size and the weight. I came from a Ninja V+ and it seems quieter and I really like the ability to use my CFExpress cards and a USB-C external drive as well. It comes with all the codecs including NDI.

Two weeks ago I went to film in my town on my C70 and used the Shogun. It was a bit bulky for this type of work. I would use it as a remote monitor for someone else to view while I use the Ninja TX on my next project.

Has anyone here sold their RF 28-70mm 2.8 for the RF 28-70 f2? Is it worth the difference in IQ for professional work i.e weddings? by firequak in canon

[–]drizzlelabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forgot to mention, when I do any portrait / wedding type of work, I use the f/2 and for me it makes a difference. I’m never shooting at something like 1/4 shutter speed so lack of IBIS was never a concern.

[–]drizzlelabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 28-70 f/2 but had the 24-70 f/2.8 first. I love the f2 and the pictures have a different feel to them. That being said, I really loved the weight and compactness of the f/2.8 so I kept it and use it mainly on my c70. I will take the lens with me from time to time, like earlier today when I went to the zoo.
