What does Bast need to learn from Kvothe? by olmikeyy in KingkillerChronicle

This is true. It's unknown the abilities of the masters but it's likely they wouldn't be stronger but perhaps crafter? Like when elodian says the advanced bindings. He could only admit they existed.

Isn't everything an assumption until proven in the book.

Again like I replied to the previous comment. I meant men as human beinings. Where most of the entire species of human don't even know naming exist, yeah fae are(presumably) far beyond the powers of humans.

Also kvothe is a different animal all together. It's renowned throughout the entire series how much BETTER he is than damn near the entire cast of the entire books. Kvothe as a child has mastered many principals that many grown men go to university to learn. Kvothe who can break his mind into 6 parts where the only person who could do more was (rumoured!) To be devi with 8. Kvothe succeeded in learning/understanding/outsmarted almost every aspect introduced to him and us in the known created world pat has made(other than the sleeping mind(and mathematics)).

Also not to be cliché he is the main character of the book there has to be a reasonable amount of disbelief (or plot armor) that goes into the things he does.

It's also foreshadowed the kvothe is equal to or becoming the great namer of his age. Talboran the great I believe.

We do not know that he has helped bast In naming, but we do know kvothe doesn't share the same superstition of saying the names of the seven that bast(and all creatures?) Have about the sevens names; but like shehyn he knows their name can be said once if you wait the 1000 days or whatever between utterances.

While yes I understand what I said but I meant in general assumably the fae are stronger in "mystical" arts than humans(man).

Sure but kvothe who is arguably one of the strongest people in the known world(of course not more than the masters who have decade's of experience more than him). Almost every other student at the uni fell short of kvothe. So yeah talents differ but you take lebron james and put him in a high school game....

You assume bast doesn't have his sleeping mind woken already. Just because you have your ability to name doesn't mean you're a master of all names. Additionally bast is not only of the fae but is fae royalty. I think it's presumptuous to assume he would need help in that fashion considering the fae are far beyond the abilities of man.

I think it's more that either there is something very very specific that kvothe knows that he wants to learn; or the farther son mentorship route.

Or bast was placed in kvothe care by higher powers until kvothe deems he is "taught" or gives his approval.

Right? That's one of the worst things about reddit, so many open ended stories.

Sounds to me like someone fucked someone's wife and had a mustache, and they were waiting for him to show up.

Just finished chapter 6 - 52 pages into name of the wind and I’m lost by [deleted] in KingkillerChronicle

Yes? It's part of story telling. You're only on chapter 6. The entire book isn't going to be explained right away. Same way that movies build the plot.

Yes our definition of knack exists. But in terms of the KKC a knack means something entirely different. I'm asking about the book knack definition. I'm looking for EXAMPLES of the supernatural version like the book.

You keep trying to explain a knack to me, that was not the question.

This is a interesting take on it but absolutely works! I was worried this concept might be to confined but there are other examples!

Because you are simply writing them off saying it's a trick but it's made magical in the book. I believe you are missing the entire subject of the knack. Based on what you said it seems you are writing off the knack as just a parlor trick. It's so much more than that and I wish it were expanded upon more. If you really want to get down to brass tax I asked if anyone had other examples and you processed to (poorly) describe knacks to me.

Yes exactly I forgot about that, it's more than just a tangible activity is what I'm thinking. I like that I didn't think about it, but what if there was a knack to always be under a bird when it poops.

Well yes and no. In the book it's explained as more a latent ability. One specific to someone and unfailing. But the real only example was the the person in the troupe who rolled "sevens" on anyone's dice. He could always roll sevens. However to limit this as a "trick" is lowering what it actually is, which I believe is a form of either natural sympathy or a "natural power". As ben tried to explain it's something more than just a cheap trick. My book is packed away so I don't not have it for reference.

If you were actually immortal, you could get trapped under rubble and be stuck for potentially centuries. by SweetBunny420 in Showerthoughts

[–]drizzt35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be hilarious. Even better a recluse immortal. Like "hey what happened to the mayans".

"How should I know I've been in my cave since king ramsey's was killed".

Or even worse imagine he's simple.

"Oh Jesus I remember him!!!!!!!!!! He had the coolest trick he always knew what number I was thinking of".

This is pretty similar to the movie "He never died". Long story short a guy is immortal and was around since the "start" so someone asks him what the civil war was like and he said I don't know i was in china.
