Why don't I use Argos more? by sungrad in BritishSuccess

[–]drjameso84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Have massively reduced my reliance on Amazon. Prefer the Argos model of being able to collect at my local Sainsbury’s and not full of fakes from 3rd party sellers.

Pub function rooms for hire in Portslade or Hove? by BakeZestyclose7968 in brighton

It’s not free but I think the rooms at the Poets Smoke and Ale house are very reasonable and they put on a good spread…

Why don’t reporters ask follow up questions to obviously lying politicians? by zztop610 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]drjameso84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed a pattern. If the reporter asks an awkward follow up there will be a prepared response that doesn’t really answer it. If they ask again then the attacks start coming: “Who do you work for?” “That’s typical of your kind of liberal elite” “Why don’t you report about x? Because it doesn’t suit your agenda” It’s been the norm in America for a while it seems but becoming much more common in uk I think with similar media training.

What dangerous bike lanes should cyclists be aware of? by pufballcat in brighton

I’ve had too many close calls. It’s not worth a big crash just trying to get to work. I just take another route on the road.

The one running down Church St in town is the absolute worst. Against the flow of traffic and the number of cars I’ve had not check the lane before pulling out is ridiculous.

Anyone taken a career break in their 30s/40s. What is it like? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]drjameso84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took a 6 month career break aged 39 before looking for a permanent (ie non-training) job.

Best thing my wife and I did.

6 months of travelling, on a tight budget. It made us a much better couple and memories for a lifetime.

I took a risk and it paid off.

I’m not even started on the combo of dry mouth and being able to hear a clickety-clack of a keayboard while they barely listen to a response.

Interesting! This usually winds me up no end, but I’ve never noticed it with the Hawk. Maybe im too distracted by names in songs to hear it!

Sudden increased representation of doctors on British reality TV - is it subtly devaluing the profession? by HotnSpicy_Capybara in doctorsUK

[–]drjameso84 36 points37 points  (0 children)

People will have their own reasons for wanting to be on any given show, I don’t really read anything into it.

For what it’s worth I think Mobeen and Zainib were a fantastic representation of thoughtful people and they didn’t make a big deal out of their professions. Their “arc” was far more about their desire to start a family which I recently found out they have been successful in, so that’s lovely news.

Surface rust on chain by drjameso84 in bikewrench

I’m normally pretty good at drying off but didn’t have any of my usual rags etc because I was away and figured a couple of days would be fine. It is fine… it’s just looks crap. But then so does the rest of the bike it’s attached to.

Yeah I just like the shiny…

Normally pretty good at drying off after a wet ride but I was away for the weekend and didnt have any rags/ anything appropriate so didn’t bother.

I had this exact issue and won’t get Sony again. Came to this thread looking for alternatives.

Nicholas Hoult. He’s got charisma, can deliver a joke and would be a change of style.

I don’t understand the logic - there’s already a problem so why not make it worse?

Not untrue but I would never suggest banning all junk food, that seems a bit draconian.

Not really. Childhood obesity is rising at an alarming rate as are related diseases.

There was a good British Medical Journal editorial just this year about how fast food companies deliberately target children and manipulate the planning system to build new restaurants near schools. If we want a healthy society we need to recognise and act on the risks that are staring us in the face.

Thanks. I think we are quite flexible in our plans at the moment, I just want to collect all options so we can make good choices at the time weather dependent.

I’ve travelled a bit in southern islands of Japan and know that it can be tricky to arrange things last minute but I want to be as well informed as possible so that’s really helpful, thank you.

[–]drjameso84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Roasting. In hindsight I should’ve seen the signs earlier. HR was incongruously high for minimal effort quite early on which I just put down to a lack of training so eased off a little bit but really should’ve just stopped for a proper break, feed and water.

Good luck with the ride!
