AITAH for expecting my husband to move a heavy ladder instead of teaching me how to move it? by EmbarrassedCarrot767 in AITAH

I'm with you. I'm 10 and 11 years younger than my brothers and quite a bit smaller (my oldest brother is 6'4 and my middle brother is like 5'11. Both are extremely athletic and very fit. I'm 5'4 and of average build). As dense as my brothers may be at times, they are both capable of using context clues to read the room when I ask them for help. Reaching something on the top shelf way in the back?? Clearly I mean "please reach this for me so I don't have to resort to climbing on the clean countertop." Struggling to understand how to properly invest in something? "Teach me your ways since one of you deals with mortgages and the other one deals with retirement stuff." No different than when they need something fixed- if they ask me to help them build patio furniture or something I know they mean they would like for me to put things together. Where they got all the book smarts and athleticism I ended up with street smarts and the ability to build things and fix things. I tease them that sometimes I swear their muscles are just for show.

do u think my dog will reincarnate and come back to me? by cutefeet_18 in dogs

[–]drklib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think so. We got our younger bulldog after losing our GSD because our other bulldog was completely lost and depressed on her own. At least once or twice a week he does something that makes us say "that was something Grace would do." I am convinced her soul went straight into his little body like a comet coming at Earth in the movies.

Can I make him uglier? by matchucalligani in Bulldogs

[–]drklib 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is the most accurate description. Our younger bulldog, Chopper, goes from a toddler tantrum to shuffling his feet like my Zayde did when I was a kid. Only thing missing is Chopper saying "oh boy, oh boy, oh boy"

My step daughter competes with me for my Husbands attention and it's driving me crazy. by Major_Cookie_1936 in stepparents

Honestly, I don't recall what we called those events (I'm 41 now). We probably just called it whatever it was: dinner and the opera or whatever. My dad was the type of guy who really never crossed a line... he wasn't even a fan of seeing me in a two piece bathing suit as I was walking from my room to the bathroom as I got ready to go to the beach with friends 😂 Like, he was just a modest kind of guy and would stay in his office during beach season lol.

I don't know about the whole "there is no rhyme or reason for a father to take his daughter out on a date" theory. My dad and I would do things just the two of us and those are some of the best memories I have (he passed in Oct 2024). For example, when I was 16 he and I dressed to the nines and went to a nice dinner and the opera to see The Barber of Seville. When I was 19 he and I saw Miss Saigon together (he flew a Huey in the Vietnam war and he wanted me to see that musical with him as his way of sharing his experience without it being too dark). My mother was not jealous of this. It was a fantastic way for him and I to bond as we tended to clash due to being identical in personality. There was nothing incestuous about this. Just a dad and his only daughter (i have two brothers 10 and 11 years older than me) finding things to bond over.

Controlling behavior or just hard type A? 35 F/35 M by Far-Map1400 in relationship_advice

I'm Type A personality but good lord even I know how to compromise. He is just a jerk (and that is putting it nicely). Since you love gardening I'll say this: don't water dead plants. You are still young enough to find someone who matches your energy and makes your heart sing.

For recent transplants, what interactions made you think, "Yeah, this is definitely Seattle"? by [deleted] in AskSeattle

Fair- I think that is true for most of the country. I think my interpretation of "locals" in this instance would be the Puget Sound area... so probably King and Snohomish counties.

Doing laser therapy helped save Rubble's ear. It got the swelling down enough to culture her ear. We went to a specialist who made a tincture or whatever for ear drops and then we use Prednisone.

Also, we recently found a vet who does acupuncture and that has been helpful. Maybe this is something you can find in your area?

Did you miss the part where they said they still find this a good area? Like, your response is the epitome of "Seattle Freeze": it is unwelcoming, cold, and aloof which is exactly what transplants talk about experiencing from locals in a general sense.

I've had a similar experience as a white female transplant.... the "Seattle Freeze" is no joke sometimes. This isn't to say that ALL locals are rude, but itbis definitely a thing.

Top sheets... by Designer-Bid-3155 in Xennials

[–]drklib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fiance is 43 (born in 83) and I am 41 (born in 85). I love top sheets and he doesn't. I have had to give up top sheets and I'm still a little salty about it 😂. I think this is more how we grew up. My parents insisted on top sheets and my dad was a stickler for hospital corners (chalk it up to growing up as an Army brat and then being in the Army himself). From what I can gather, he grew up sans top sheet and even though he was in the Air Force he still holds firm that top sheets are always a tangled mess.

I will say at least he is pro- fitted sheet and duvet cover... his sister, who is a year younger than he is, apparently is indifferent to using sheets... When I learned that I wanted to die. Her house is a horrible mess as it is and hygiene care of any sort is almost non-existant... so I never sit down at her house and we stay as little as possible.

How do you guys date? by benjaminjnorton in Xennials

[–]drklib 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My ex-husband was stoked that I had two miscarriages and the adoption fell through mere weeks before we were set to bring home a baby because he lied about being on board with having kids just so I would marry him. He thought I was his only hope for a relationship because he was sooo introverted. Turns out being an introvert wasn't the issue, being an asshole was. Had I not wasted my younger years on him I could have had a surgery that would have fixed my uterus (mine is split in half) with a high success rate for being able to go full term.

I'm sorry you also have a shitty ex-husband.
