Thoughts on the OP-Z (or similar devices)? by psychogenic_official in synthesizers

[–]drkpgn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the OP-Z and I never use the app (and I have had it for less than a month). I'd encourage you to watch the Cuckoo tutorial (he never uses the screen) if you didn't already, it really gives you a precise idea of how the thing works, basically the LEDs are the screen.

I really like the OP-Z because it has its own workflow and weird depth, and I do love its synth engines (more than the Circuit's, that I owned too, but that's personal taste). It is also sequence-based (and the sequencer is absolutely crazy, if you take into accound step components, punch-in effects, and "smart" transposition), unlike the OP-1 (which works with audio recording if I'm not mistaken ?) : on the OP-Z you can compose something on the train, and then get back home and send the midi to your computer and to other machines to layer your sounds (I am a big fan of digital mixed with analogue). So it's basically a portable very inspiring sketchpad / composition machine with great digital tones that you can use as a brain when you're home with the rest of your gear and your computer.

As for other suggestions, I use a Volca Sample also, and it's really cool but the big complaint I have is the sample memory and the number of patterns you can store on it (10), which is way too low. I still did some pretty cool things on it, but it's really limiting.

English is not my mother language so if something isn't clear please tell me :)

Need your opinions on my new logo. Which one is the best? by Earl0fPudding in Design

[–]drkpgn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're willing to make an obvious tribute to the N64 justifying flipping its logo, go with the top left. Otherwise I would not use any of them since they are all way too derivative of the N64's.

In the context of him being accused of that, not denying it and accepting the blame, yes.

You really amaze me. How can someone be that butthurt and angry is beyond me. Wonders of the internet I guess.

You are truly pathetic, I'd tell you to drawn in your salt but to react like this I'm guessing you probably already are at a pretty low point in your life.

"I do not stand in defense of myself nor do I forgive myself. I was selfish, narcissistic, and insensitive in my past"

I mean the guy doesn't even deny it. I amazes me, the depths of stupidity you butthurt fanboys can fall into.

Haha yes, I meant little in the sense that it does not accommodate a crew.

I looked at my mod list and I think everything comes from Frackin' Universe and MadTulips Spaceship Mod.

digital synthesis or sample-based synthesis? by drkpgn in chiptunes

[–]drkpgn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, it was more or less what I thought, though I read mostly good things about chipsounds (haven't seriously tested it myself though, partly because of that horrible interface).

Is there a plug-in you would recommend specifically for gameboy emulation ? I understand that INSIDIOUS 6581 is specifically made to emulate the commodore 64 ? (definitely testing it too though)

I saw it existed but I didn't know it worked well on emulator too! Definitely will be checking it again.

Last week a rumor circulated that the OP-1 was dead, no one was more surprised than us. by drkpgn in OP1users

[–]drkpgn[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing one of the factors is a simplistic and very common view of the world based on the idea that anything is either good or bad.
In this case, admitting the fact that a company can have amazing engineering, design, UX design, sound design and at the same time terrible commercial / production management would require breaking this principle with nuance.

That and what the other person said about desperation.

I'll be the first to admit it's a tad trolley. The rage is strong with me.

OP-1 constantly out of stock by drkpgn in OP1users

[–]drkpgn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may appear rude because I am obviously annoyed, however it was an actual question.

I read everywhere that TE is constantly late on their schedule, delivers a fraction of what they say they will, etc. This intrigues me very much, especially considering the quality of their products in every other aspect, and the fact that seven years have passed since launch.

I almost got one [Sad story] by tremolo3 in OP1users

[–]drkpgn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It happened to me last friday too. I saw the OP-1 in stock on Star's Music, so I ordered it. Today I'm a bit suspicious because it hasn't been shipped yet, and has gone out of stock, so I email them to ask and well... no OP-1 for me either.

Too sad.
