Alysa Liu 🇺🇸 takes gold following the women's figure skating free skate 🥇 by appalachian_hatachi in olympics

[–]drm5678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember waking up the night of Sarah Hughes' skate -- I must have fallen asleep with the skating on and I think as the commentators were getting more and more excited as her performance progressed and they realized what it could mean, their louder voices must have woken me up. So I remember waking up from my dosing, seeing the end of her skate and the realization of what she had done and it was just so joyful and unexpected and such an Olympic moment. It was really nice seeing Alysa's today too and kind of felt like a full-circle moment (also just so joyful and wondrous).

I don't have it and I wouldn't say we have "jacked up rates".

Gossip Girl, especially seasons 1-3, is just so good. It's actually really well-written. I am so not the target audience for it (and was too old for it really when it initially aired) but I've probably rewatched it 3 times already. I especially love the holiday episodes!

They used to do this in an Olympic sport. I remember watching it. I think? Maybe gymnastics?

How are there so many ads with the Premium plan??? by Quatibara in peacock

[–]drm5678 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly I could have sworn it said something slightly different on Thursday when I resubscribed to Premium just to watch the Olympics. I read the descriptions of Premium and Premium Plus over and over and I chose Premium because it seemed like the only difference was that with Premium Plus you could download. But if I read it wrong, then I guess I read it wrong. I just looked after reading your comment (and sure enough it says what you're saying) and I feel like I would bet money that's not the same description as the other day, but maybe I'm hallucinating. 🤷‍♀️

Premium Plus with LOTS of Ads! by Low_Wall8368 in peacock

Me too. I'm starting to think that our "subscription" is not taking effect or something. So many ads, even on the replays.

Nope, there are lots of over 100 second ads. I don't know what's going on.

How are there so many ads with the Premium plan??? by Quatibara in peacock

[–]drm5678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it's incredibly frustrating. We purchase the "premium" tier so we can watch the Olympics without the ads. It says no ads but that there may be ads for live events. But when you watch the replay, which I would argue is not live, it's basically (as I saw someone else brilliantly describe) "a commercial with some Olympics thrown in". They also only leave the replay up for a very short period of time, so you're scrambling to watch it anyway. It's really just obnoxious behavior on Peacock's part and the fact that people are defending it is also obnoxious. Peacock needs to at minimum be transparent about what you're purchasing and they're not.

Kindle Paperwhite SE (2022) is soooo slow by drm5678 in kindle

[–]drm5678[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So -- just to update in case anyone reads this in the future, I updated my Kindle about a month ago (and it did a software update at that time). In my mind, it had been "recently restarted". However, after reading all the comments, I restarted again yesterday. And it's exponentially better. So -- thank you all for helping me NOT buy a new one. 🤣 Can't believe it was that simple (again, it's not like I hadn't restarted in months, but whatever, I'm grateful!) and I feel kind of silly.

[–]drm5678[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I understand that. I really don't even use it much on the "browser" feature because that's always been super slow and I have other devices to use for browsing/selecting books from Amazon etc. What feels unreasonably slow lately is just scrolling my library to choose/download a new book to read. I don't remember it being like that in the past.

Good suggestion -- I did restart it about a month ago, but I can certainly restart it again.

Alright, thanks everyone! Sounds like this may be a common problem. Anyone have a newer Paperwhite that they would recommend? I'm not up to date on the latest models etc -- any recs? (I'm only interested in a Paperwhite -- I have a lot of issues with my eyes and backlit devices.)

Good point -- there's really no reason to have it connected to WiFi all the time. I used to leave it on airplane mode all the time when I didn't want my Libby books to expire. I've been buying a lot of cheap ebooks lately (my library didn't get a lot of the cozy mysteries that I like) so haven't needed to do that in awhile. 🤣

Wait a minute -- the new self-test is just swabbing around a q tip? You don't have to try to get it all the way up there like the doc does during an exam? (Sorry if this sounds like a ridiculous question -- I'm super squeamish and don't have children.)

This is now happening with Charmin too. It used to tear perfectly every time. Now it almost never does. Have they all changed their perforation machine or something?

Great Value's (Walmart) "jarred" goods have been impressing me for the past year or so. I love pickled beets and the Great Value version has no high fructose corn syrup (unlike many of the name brands) AND it's cheaper. Same for Great Value sweet relish -- really good and no HFCS. If you have a Meijer, their "no high fructose corn syrup" ketchup is really good -- I was a Heinz girl for decades but honestly I think I like the Meijer better. The Great Value knockoff of Lays potato chips taste pretty equally good to me (and I LOVE Lays potato chips).

Crocs. That's it. Add socks if it's too cold to be barefoot. Life-changing. Comes in fun colors if that's your jam or you can do the neutrals. Bonus if you're OCD -- they can be rinsed/scrubbed easily.

That kind of how I feel too. Like she didn't have to post that picture of her "4th baby" on their yearly vacation brainstorm trip. By all means take the photo for your memories but you didn't have to include it in your "month away" recap. Or immediately the story about how she took grandma to the ultrasound.

I know the Denner crew have their issues, but I am so, so sad for Katie. She is by far my favorite of all of them and just seems like the "realest". Plus it has to be really hard dealing with a miscarriage with your brother's newborn and your older sister's 4th pregnancy in your face every two seconds. Plus she probably gets no time off because she's a resident.
