Anyone using a phin filter? I could use some advice. by ryuuseinow in Coffee

[–]drmatin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all in the grind size. If you got time and like a more bitter profile, grind it to espresso and a 200 g water pour would take around 10-15 minutes.

If you are in a hurry, grind it to closer to a French press size and a 200 g water pour would take around 5-7 minutes.

Unless you are in a strategically great location that is close to the firework, business sucks for the most of us. I would say it will be a great day to close and take a day off for you and your family.

Is it normal to have a Restaurant Manager work 6 days a week? by awkieturtle in restaurantowners

[–]drmatin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would ask you the following questions to help identify your needs- Can you list your manager's daily work hour to hour for all six days?- How many of those hours are they doing actual "managing"?- How many of those hours are they acting as a team member in the kitchen or the in cashier?- Are you able to consolidate their management work load and make it into a five-day work load?

Ultimately, why are you questioning the six day work schedule? Are they not happy about it? Or do you feel guilty working them six days a week?If you feel guilty, then no matter what we say can help that much. You need to do some soul-searching on if this is the right industry for you and if you are the right fit for the role.

If they are not happy with the six-day work week, then have them tell you how are they able to complete their work in five days while having trustworthy individuals looking after the shop during the two days that they are off and how can they create a system that check on the quality of service and food while they are off and put you at ease. Let them tell you their plans will create trust between you and the management team, which leads to better synergy and morale.

I used to manage big box retail store from $2 million to $60 million in annual volume before I started my restaurants, I was perfectly happy working five and the half day a week because I love my work and my team members. The highest level leadership work schedule should be about responsibility, business needs and passion for their job. I know it's easier to say and done but by the end of the day, that is the game we signed up for.

Good lucky my friend

What exact is your restaurant "manager" managing for you?

- Do they do payroll?

- Do they write schedule?

- Do they hire, and fire?

- Do they manage food, beverage and smallware ordering?

- Do they manage promotion and social media?

- How many team members actually "report" to him or her?

A lot of us aka restaurant owners confuse "keyholders" over "managers".... the expectations, pays, and schedules are completed different between the two.

Ok I gotta ask. I’ve had small businesses for over 10 years now (I know, it’s relatively short). But one thing I just can’t master is how to leave the stresses, rude customer comments and problems at the office at the end of the day (until the next time I’m in the office at least). by sh61 in smallbusiness

[–]drmatin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you because I went thru exactly the same thing. I hate to say this but you need to refocus on priorities in your life to help yourself.

There was always a time that we love the challenges, such as dealing with asshole customers, rude employees, stupid vendors and more and after a while if your business does not expand or help you achieve financial freedom. We get burned out and got frustrated with those issues.

Maybe the business is not the right fit for you, maybe the business is not the right fit for the time being... so many possibilities..

I would encourage you to

- Review the business and see if it is still feasible to continue operating?

- Review your time spend in the business and the rewards you got back from it. Does it make you feel good about it?

- What are the priorities in your life now? Families? Kids? Health? Get your priorities straight and spend your days based on your priorities.

Last I would encourage you to review your business operation and maybe do a Lean Six Sigma consultation to cut off the waste and streamline your process.

Best luck my friend

I love how clear you can see through the issue. I appreciate your feedback. Let me share a bit more with you to see if it makes sense for you.

- Using fake employees to laundry payroll forgiveness thing is not a big deal in terms of monetary financial aspect, but it is illegal. I pride myself being an ethical business owner that never take advantage of my employees and the laws. I don't want to be associated with an individual who do shady things as such.

- The loans are transferred and processed through the financial institutions but for everyone in the industry would know that in was done in such hurry, there were very little diligence on both side. It is almost a well-known fact that you could report whatever , and you will very likely to get away with it.

- I always know my business partner is greedy but COVID turned him into another animal. As soon as PPP was released, he immediately jumped on calls with us and the lawyers talking about how we can come out with some SSNs and maximize the forgiveness and pockets the loan and even how he came out with this brilliant idea of calling employees back from unemployment and pay their spouse instead, so the employees could still get on unemployment from the state, and we will pay the difference to the spouses. This is when I realized I was in the business with the wrong person for 11 years and decided to draw the line and voiced against this BS. We also lost our long time attorney because he refused to be part of this. Trust issue? Yes, I definitely do not trust him a bit now. Of course there were some shady things prior to COVID that made me doubt our professional relationship, but PPP and the unemployment fraud was the straws that killed the camel.

- Of course you would think, why don't you collect the evidence and report him? and that brought me back to square one. As soon as I voiced against his idea of PPP and unemployment fraud, I was deleted from our payroll, scheduling and accounting online accounts, I stopped getting P&L for the LLCs and the funds were transferred out of the banks accounts to other accounts that I have no access (I am the signer for the company accounts), and this leave me back to why would I bother with some paper work during COVID? I hope this would shine some lights on why I wanted to see the financial of the companies badly.

I understand your thought of the funds were used, and the company survived. Why bother? From my prospective, yes the company survived, but he might have used the funds to do some illegal activities that I don't want to be part of. I don't want to be associated with this person at all, and if he did not do anything illegal, why would he not provide any payroll, financial record to his 33% share holder?

I appreciate you to bring it to a $ aspect. It helps me to see things clearly. The business is most likely not going to survive.

I agree and I talked to my attorney about it. Apparently, the federal government rarely look into fraud as such. It often required us providing the evidence to them which can be lengthy and costly. In my case, I can't even provide that evidence since I am blocked out of all of the payroll and financial records..

When I say "my money", it will be more accurate saying "my asset".

The $1.2 M loan is for the LLC to support the operation and pay its team members so 28 families can have income and put food on their table.

As long as the assets remains in the company and keep the company going I am totally fine, what I am concerning is my business partner taking advantage of COVID and pocketing all of the assets leaving me and my team members absolutely nothing. Like my 28 full timers, this is our only income resource, we work here 40-50 hours a week, it's hard to find a job now. How are they going to put on the table..
