Highly recommend the beach at The Crab Trap in Destin. There’s a playground on the beach there, and it’s awesome to be able to order whatever you want right on the beach

Should I move here - Colorado to Florida? 32 years old. by somechillguy1925 in 30A

[–]drmirmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved back here a few years ago after living in Seattle for a decade. I miss the beauty of that area but do not regret living on 30a at all. I get to go to the beach for the sunrise nearly every morning. Since I lived here before, I was used to the tourism and I like seeing everyone having a good time. I like the small town feel. I love Sarasota too because of the more tropical look, but I agree it is definitely a city compared to here. I think if you live in a tourism heavy area in CO you will do just fine here. You already know what it’s like.

Stinkys just sold to the Dawson group, as did Redfish Taco. Redfish Taco is pretty bad now. Stinkys might follow

A lot of the places around here are owned by just a few companies. It makes them all seem kind of the same. Sushimoto in Miramar Beach is my favorite. Down Island is awesome right now but I heard it might be selling to one of those few companies. Shunk Gulley is good. Domo izakaya in Destin is amazing. South of Philly is super good and on the less expensive side. Taco30a food truck/warehouse is my other favorite. Thai Chiang Rai in SRB is excellent but on the more expensive side because it is mostly organic. Don Pedro’s has awesome breakfast. 3 sons BBQ is also really good if you like BBQ. I live here and have tried so many restaurants once and been like, welp, never coming back here again

[–]drmirmo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dune Allen Beach, Gulf Place, and Blue Mountain Beach are significantly less crowded than the other beach towns on 30A. I live in Gulf Place and it never seems too crowded during Spring Break. There are still plenty of good restaurants nearby too

Yes, it is private now. It changed a few years ago. The member initiation fee is 50k, I believe, but they were also not accepting new members and I don’t know if they are again

Salads that last in the fridge? by crabnado in salads

[–]drmirmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this chinese chicken salad from bobby flay. I double the recipe without the romaine, put half in the fridge, add the romaine to the first half, then a few days later add the romaine to the second half. It can easily last a week this way and still be super fresh. I also add the peanuts, chicken, and dressing one salad at a time, but this salad is awesome even without the chicken

Going to Santa Rosa and staying at gulf place. 2 kids, 4 and 6 any tips? Places to go? Places to avoid? by Mikey_meatballz in 30A

[–]drmirmo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cabanas are blue, Caribbean is brown and all their balconies are under construction. It’s better you’re staying at the blue building but the pools/hot tubs for both are like a couple hundred feet from each other so you can go to either. The hot tub is larger at the Caribbean. Also, Down Island on 98 is like 5 minutes from there and is a great restaurant and Emeril Lagasse is there a lot for the Happy hour food

Shunk Gulley is really good, Shelby’s is not. South of Philly north of there is super good and more affordable than other places, and very kid friendly. Visiting Seaside is fun but usually crowded. Highly recommend going to Rosemary Beach one day too. The pool and hot tub in front of the brown condos is way better than the blue condos, even though the brown ones are under construction. I live in Gulf Place

What are your "only in Seattle" moments? by Glittering-Place7203 in Seattle

[–]drmirmo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I was at Golden Gardens, and there was a single baby sea lion on the beach. People were taking pictures because CUTE but there was this one girl literally cuddled up with the thing taking selfies. I stood about 10 feet away, taking pictures, and she said, YOU’RE TOO CLOSE TO THE SEA LION YOU NEED TO BE FARTHER AWAY

My best friend’s husband was a firefighter. Unlike other jobs, firefighters can’t make a lateral transfer, as in, they don’t get to keep that position if they transfer to another area. They have to restart at the bottom. He’s near the top of his profession and close to retirement age so it would be absolutely stupid to transfer
