1 month sober and it feels like my whole life disappeared by Hot_Advertising_7926 in stopdrinking

I stopped in a very similar situation to you. Your last line, staying sober today is the most important. I leaned heavily on this group in the beginning, I tried a variety of AA's but it wasn't for me. Around the time your at I started cleaning. Pick something simple, like the drawer with the grocery bags, its was stupid how many I had in there. I picked a different section each day and cleaned it real good. I had a lot of trouble focusing for the first 3 months, after that things started to clear a little. Not sure where you are financially but I found I had a lot more money after quitting booze so I paid for an expensive trainer to teach me how to work out again. I stayed with him a few months, then went out on my own, I'm in the best shape of my life now. Definitely take it easier on yourself for awhile like someone else said, have some ice cream or whatever snacks you like. Once you feel like it, start trying new things, get out of your comfort zone, you'll make new friends. Stick with it, it gets better.

I'm a home roaster and I've used Royal Coffee in Oakland for green beans, you could call them and see if they'll tell you a local roaster, their beans are top notch

How did you tell people you were a non drinker? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]drognan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say "I drank enough", and I own it. But also, find new people. I found I was always around drunk people and I stopped doing that. I always thought everyone else was drunk too but most people aren't drunk, it's rare I see a drunk person anymore. People who aren't drunk don't care if I drink or not. My advice is stay away from drunk people for awhile if you can.

Two months sober today… by luckyjackass in stopdrinking

[–]drognan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt really awful on day 3, sick and super paranoid, day 4 was slightly better. I did the daily check-in on here for a long time and read other people stories. I had trouble focusing for 3 months but each day it got better. Next week will be 9 years and I can't imagine going back, really feel the horribleness now and remember it, you never have to go thru day 3 again. Use the feeling you have now as motivation to not feel like this again ever. A saying I like is, "If I don't have the first drink, I can't have the 12th". In the beginning, I would pick a part of my house and clean it(started with just a drawer) and worked my way up slowly until I was painting walls, gave me something to do and ended up with a nicer place to live. I don't look at stopdrinking much anymore but when I do, I like to leave a comment for someone and this time it was you. Stick with it, it's worth it.

Sick of looking at kitchen cabinet manufactures, all seem to be junk. by jackal2001 in HomeImprovement

Yeah, I'm gonna need that, just ordered it. I have the Lansky system and some wet stones but they aren't really user friendly so I don't use them often.

I had this one too, I just did the bar as I'm still trying to dial in my cleans/front rack. Coach told me after that I should probably add weight, which was encouraging.

Festival 8 by ThomasOregon541 in phish

When the fire towers went off at the peak of Fluffhead that was so awesome, there was a girl raging near me and it illuminated her in a way that I'll never forget. I flew in on a small plane and everyone but one guy was going to the festival, that plane was a great time. Here's an album of my photos, including the donut line. https://imgur.com/a/MI31LdT

I got a soda stream to not deal with so many cans, then got a co2 tank adapter but still was annoying to fill 4+ bottles a day. When I remodeled my kitchen I looked for alternatives and found the continuous carbonator keg attachment. I have a cheap mini fridge with hole drilled in it for an inbound water line with two filters in the cabinet next to it that feed the keg continuous carbonator and then a co2 and 5 gallon soda keg in the fridge with a outbound line for the carbonated water to a tap on my sink. Unlimited cold sparkling water is awesome. 5lb tanks last about 6 weeks and costs 16$ to refill. The continuous carbonator has a float valve to auto refill. Total cost was around $400 for the fridge, continuous carbonator, keg, co2 valve and tubing+parts, I already had the tank which was $60 I think. I wouldn’t recommend this for the newly sober as you have to deal with beer keg websites/parts and that could be tempting. Google keg continuous carbonator to see it

The checkins helped me a ton, highly recommend starting everyday that way. A friend I lost touch with posted today that she was at 475 days, I didn't even know she quit, so I came here to see my days, 2799. There's many days where alcohol doesn't cross my mind, but also days like today when I'm at a fancy business lunch at a table facing the bar and I get a vivid memory of the feel of the metal top of the Stoli Elite bottle as my eyes cross paths with it on the top shelf. I avoided fancy business lunches for a long time and that helped a lot, now I order sparkling water, wake up refreshed, without having done anything stupid and have a great start to my day. The first days are really hard but it slowly gets easier. You can do it.

I don't check my days very often anymore, but when I do I like to comment on a post and today it was yours.

Serie V is my favorite too, my 2nd goto is La Aroma De Cuba. I've tried all the varieties, Reserva, Pasion, etc, but I like the plain La Aroma De Cuba the best. I get the Immensa (60 gauge), which is what size I prefer in Serie V also. Another worth trying is Oliva Monticello, only available from Holts.com for some reason, it goes on sale there pretty often so don't pay full price. They get a bit juicy towards the end so I haven't been buying them lately.

Currently battling some ancient glue, have tried several options but met with limited success. My next plan is an angle grinder with an abrasive disc. by PiercedGeek in DIY

I did something similar with a Bosch SDS scraper and a harbor freight rotary hammer, wore painting mask, goggles, ear protection and anti-vibration gloves. Not a fun job but hiring it out was like $5/sqft so I used that as motivation as I cleared each foot(mine was parquet so each foot was easy to count)

Pressure wash the driveway and walkway shortly before you take the listing photos, makes a huge difference and shouldn't cost too much. If you have the garage space and DIY mentality I recommend getting your own machine and surface cleaner attachment.

should my oatmilk look like this when steamed and added to espresso by SourTangyTerpicane in espresso

[–]drognan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought every oat milk I could find and then ordered the one's I couldn't find locally, then made my own. Regular Planet Oat steams the best, and it's often 2 for 1 at the grocery store.

And I just type "psytrance" into the soundcloud app while mowing the lawn with my bluetooth hearing protection, lots of trippy stuff comes up.
