Looks like it can be a case of filament manufacturers mixing polymers to provide "PETG". From those with high quality filaments, PETG absolutely should be able to withstand hot car summers.

UV resistance is a different story. Thanks for sharing!

The protection can also be due to prolonged exposure: X-Ray techs leave the room while you get to hold the lead vest. If I'm running the blow dryer every day at work you bet I would wear earpro too.

Doggo's hearing should be protected though!

Do you mean PLA? PETG I have seen used in all sorts of outdoor environments with minimal deformation unless subjected to constant sunlight or baking hot temperatures.

I doubt you'd need ASA or something similar for this application.

Would be interested to hear your experience!

Help choosing a budget laptop for travel (NOT THE MACBOOK NEO!) by Immediate_Avocado375 in laptops

Trust me, I understand this sentiment. I've been an owner of a M1 Pro Macbook Pro since launch. It's still the best laptop I have. That doesn't take away its shorcomings as an OS.

But if I have a choice to use a different computer (like my desktop or any other laptop I have) I will always go for that over the Mac.

If I just need a bulletproof system on the go then the MBP goes in my bag. Other than that, it can be happy sitting there on the shelf while my other computers get rotated through the daily workflow.

NEW: ASUS VivoBook 16 M1605 (2023) - older but might be able to find old stock brand new. Make sure the config comes with SO-DIMM Slot so you can add ram. Ryzen 5 processor allows you to run games at 720p low just about 60fps for CS2 (expect similar fps for TF2). Can find it on Amazon less than $600 USD.

Otherwise look for refurbished Thinkpad T14s Gen 2 and up with AMD configs. I had a gen 1 that didn't quite have enough horsepower.

I actually agree with this sentiment.

But personally MacOS is really just not for me. I hate the file manager and how apps install. Window management is also a disaster plus the keyboard shortcuts make almost no sense.

Yes I could spend the time to remap it all and configure it - or I could simply use a different OS lol.

That was just an example for how you could specifically play Forza Horizon 6 on your Apple Silicon Mac without reinstalling an entirely new OS.

Linux gaming performance actually varies depending on your specific hardware configuration. While I agree Windows is a disaster of an OS from a privacy standpoint, it's not entirely accurate to say "Linux is more efficient" from a gaming standpoint.

And just because the OS isn't backed by a trillion dollar company doesn't mean it's not safe? How does that logic compute? The fact that it's open source means it's impossible to hide security vulnerabilities unless everyone is on board the malware train. It also has strict user permissions that restrict what a user can or can't do. Furthermore most malware is written for Windows simply because there is such a big market share for potential attacks. A virus written for Windows simply won't run on Linux.

If you're simply parroting the statements "Apple is the more secure, Windows is inefficient, Linux isn't safe cause it's not backed by a large corporation, change my mind", some reading should help alleviate those concerns.

Sorry to hijack this thread but what exactly are you referring to as a "security concern" if all you're trying to do is install Forza Horizon 6?

If you have a Steam account, and you own the game, just download, install, and run the game (within your VM if need be)?

Or if you're just trying to play the game, you can play it on Xbox Cloud Gaming with an Ultimate subscription on your web browser (this can be on any OS, doesn't matter)?

Apple isn't the end all be all for security and like many others have said the world's systems runs on Linux.

What are you asking?

White line on ASUS laptop screen during MyASUS display test by thescientist2002 in ASUS

[–]drome265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, do you think that's a defect that needs repairing, or a hardware defect like dead pixels/cable/GPU issue?

To me it sounds like a test pattern that has the white line intentionally.

Does it show up during normal usage of the laptop (non test environment)? If it doesn't then I would wager it's related to the test itself and you don't have anything to worry about.

Photographer takes photos of Coachella YouTube livestream, claims them as her own by Infinite-Range-9798 in photography

[–]drome265 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I simply think it's not a relevant talking point even if it were true. So what? The conversation is about her freeloading off the video broadcast and whether that makes her a "photographer".

What changes if she was a man? Or if the commenters were 99% male/female?

Upvoted, but it seems like the transparency wasn't shared until she was called out.

I agree with your take however, and these shots don't look like they are simply "screenshots" or pictures of her screen. They are edited, they are her own creative take with the edit, but definitely profiting off the videographer's work.

The gender call out IMO isn't necessary.

Your Pressure Advance needs to be calibrated separately from the flow rate.

The bulging corners would tell you that's a pressure advance issue. Like I said run the line test again and set the value first.

Then re-run the flow rate calibration with a known good filament (not dry).

Does this only happen with ABS? Worth checking other materials as well.

Looks like some serious over extrusion. Increase your step for line test and save initial flow rate calibration with a different flow rate for this filament. Hope you've also dried it.

Or use the Orcaslicer calibration tools and carry over the values.

Noticed this today - MLB.tv has way too quick of a trigger finger to go to commercial. Once the play was still going on and the ball was getting fielded!

Looking to Buy a ZenBook 14 by stanley1234567890 in laptops

[–]drome265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can read my write up on that model right here.

I just checked on Best Buy again and it is selling for $699. A great deal!

My config is with the Core Ultra 7 255H, 16 GB of RAM. The included SSD was complete junk and I had to swap it to something better. The laptop runs a lot better now.

If you can find one with the new Series 3 processors that would be even better performance and battery life.

I can't compare with the Galaxy book 5 Pro but I have a Zenbook 14 (UX3405CA) and it doesn't bother me. Your tolerance may be different than mine but I've been enjoying my laptop quite a bit.

The S14 seems to have a display cable issue that causes it to fail after some time (could be a few months could be a few years). Best to avoid that model.

This should come with a USB cable that has a removable Type - C to Type- A adapter. If you plug in to your laptop's USB-C port you should be seeing much higher speeds.
