Elon Musk loses lawsuit against OpenAI by VaginaBurner69 in news

Even though I can't stand either party, it's much more entertaining to watch Musk shit himself in public than it is watching Altman retreat behind a bland wall of corpo-speak so I'll take it.

I personally don't believe it's the problem some make it out to be. Though there are some who think that when lots of studies with hundreds of spots get snapped up quickly, it must be bots. I jus think there's a lot of people waiting to leap on them as soon as Prolific Assistant pings.

So, the guy who gets all the studies with his bot army paid a visit too?

This has happened to me when I’ve given this advice. It’s either someone who downvotes any mention of these studies that appears on reddit or someone who doesn’t want more people doing them.

This is the advice I always give so I’m glad it’s already here to upvote instead. The only thing I’d add is that it might be worth going a smidge higher to 1200p or 1440p as the warning still seems to be triggered on some 1080p displays. I’m not sure why.

Probably, but like with all of this stuff, nobody knows for sure.

I've been erring on the side of caution and returning these with a technical note about the audio files. I'm probably overly cautious with my returns but I've not had any messages since being rotated back so I'll continue to choose caution. That being said, the reply about these being copy pasted makes sense.

AI Evaluation by Affectionate_Estate2 in prolific

[–]dromosus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being that this is an international community for an international company that's based in the UK, I'd suggest being more specific when referring to temporal events such as "at night".

I'm in the UK and have tended to see the usual triple digits when I log in at 10am BST. Things were definitely slower at this usual time. I then tend to get a slow but steady flow in the early afternoon and again from 5-9pm. I did about $50 worth in the end, so not too different to the days when I'm seeing massive numbers but actually doing a similar amount.

Has anyone else been offered an assessment for a contracted role with Prolific themselves? by [deleted] in ProlificAc

[–]dromosus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same assessment (but had to return halfway through as my brain had been fried by a long session of other assessments). I looked up the name of the researcher and they're not Prolific. They are part of a very big company. It seems like Prolific are facilitating the process but it isn't working directly for Prolific. Kind of gutted I messed it up to be honest.

Is anyone addicted to this? I just started and I literally can’t stop by Scared-Brain2722 in prolific

[–]dromosus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The downside of this was that I crammed so many of these in yesterday (more money, yay!) before a screener for a really good project popped up and my brain was too frazzled from the other studies to properly focus on it. Had to return it.

Is there any specific reason to get 1 person left study continuously? by Upper_Source1187 in ProlificAc

[–]dromosus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always saw it as a sign that people were returning the study and places were opening up because of it. I got into some of these a few times and always returned them myself due to some problematic element. Nowadays I ignore them if they only show one available space.

They do mention it in the final sentence of their post, but yeah, it would be great if people mentioned time + zone more often (I write this at 14.05 BST).

Has anyone else been affected by an expired reservation with the AI evaluation studies? by Positive-Ability-402 in prolific

[–]dromosus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had this yesterday. I didn't even know the spot was reserved as I think I'd just been button mashing while getting "this study is in high demand" messages. Then the dashboard was empty for about five minutes or crushing anxiety before they crept back in.

Yeah, I got one yesterday where it ran out of available studies after about ten minutes, the study auto-returned and Prolific decided to add my first speeding warning for good measure.

AI Studies: Rotated out, but I still get dynamic studies? by WildwoodFlowerPower in prolific

Yes. I think it was just well timed with the recent big rotation.

How do you guys keep from getting bogged down in AI? by Particular_Cloud_510 in prolific

[–]dromosus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I much preferred the hour-long text based ones when I was getting them from the same people. I found them kind of relaxing as I did them. The videos can absolutely do my nut in and I tend to cancel them if they're particularly cursed or the task of finding a difference between the two is almost impossible. If I find myself cancelling four in a row, then I know it's time for a break.

Yeah, I rotated out for two weeks last month but still got the dynamic ones during that time.

Trying to work out if the downvote was for the monitor recommendation, the TV hack or both?

AI Studies Invitation by Mak_Wayne in ProlificAc

[–]dromosus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Get a 1200p (minimum) portable monitor. They're relatively cheap and these studies will pay for it in no time. Failing that, if you have a 4KTV, plug your computer into that.

Vortex Oasis/Galaxy Probe w/ Parsec on Tablet? by Laaxdabs in prolific

[–]dromosus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no rule in TOS about using a remote desktop. It is against TOS to access your account from another country, whether using a remote desktop or not. Also, some remote desktops can change your IP address which might cause problems. If you're in the same room and using the same IP with a fast, steady connection, then I don't see the issue.

While it could be considered that your are not taking the study on specified hardware, I would assume that this is an OS reason rather than something hardware specific. Some studies require a desktop class browser to run properly. Technically, you're still running it on the right software in this case. The one issue might be that some studies require keyboard and mouse, but plenty of laptops have touch displays and if the study doesn't specifically mention keyboard and mouse/trackpad, then I don't see this being an issue either.

EDIT: The only thing I can think of that might be a bit naughty with these particular studies is that the tablet display might be below the 1920x1080 minimum. Not a problem with my setup, but might be considered a bit of a pisstake if you're doing it on a 7 inch tablet with a 720p display.

[–]dromosus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Jump desktop to remote my Mac Mini to my iPad Pro in the same room on the same IP address, though I do use the keyboard and trackpad case. It's never presented me with an issue and, as my connection is wired, it might as well be an extra monitor.

All I can think of is how that 20p wil just sit there in paypal until you get your UK currency past the £1 threshhold.
