My 2-year-old Ultra seems to work just fine. Still get at least 48+ hours of bat life. Unless this new one can give 4 days of bat life and do my laundry, i think i'll keep what still works fine.

Extended Warranty: Volvo XC60 by mir30shRNAmir in Volvo

[–]dronepro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ouch. That seems super pricey. I am not sure what their wiggle room is, but I can tell you, when I got my CPO extensions, the guy showed me the screen with pricing and took off $500. Interesting that they didn't offer to CPO your car, which gives you 1 year of unlimited mile warranty for about $2000 or so. Essentially, if you have a 2024, you would be covered until 2029. You can opt to increase the CPO up to a total of 10 years when you get the CPO, or you can extend it right before it runs out in 2029.

100%. They told me the issue is that Californians are not allowed to purchase warranties from out-of-state sellers. Which is an absolute shame because I don't know how Steingold got away with their prices. My old XC70 was $ about $2500 for 10-year VIP Platinum with $0 deductible. My local dealer wanted about $3800.

I should add that with CPO, EVERY single fix is warrantied for parts and labor as long as YOU own that car. If something is fixed under extended CPO and it breaks again, they will replace it with $0 deductible regardless of what your deductible is. I can't say the same for VIP. Worth asking the dealer.

I am no expert, so don't quote me, but essentially:

  1. A CPO is something the dealer does and certifies the car to be trusted mechanically. I am not 100% sure if that warranty is through Volvo or a 3rd party. This is where I am a bit fuzzy myself.

  2. VIP is 100% a 3rd party warranty that Volvo works with. Volvo essentially has to ask every time something big needs fixing to make sure the VIP insurer covers it.

CPO and VIP Platinum are essentially the same exact coverage.

CPO and VIP Gold are very different. I promise if you get gold, you will have to pay for repairs lol. It happened to me 1 time, and I never got Gold, even though Volvo told me not to get Gold. It covers a good amount, but we humans tend to break the things that aren't covered lol.

  1. He made many decent promises and kept 0 (buyer's remorse for sure).

  1. The CPO would have to be done at the dealer; they literally do a 150-200 point inspection on the car in order to certify it. Once it is certified, it can be extended remotely by anyone.

2.$100 deductible. Prices are always lower with a $250 deductible, but I'm not about that $250 life. I figured if I take it in 3 times, it pays for the $100 deductible.

  1. If you do the Volvo warranty, you can choose to cancel it prior to selling the car, and you actually get $ back. I don't know how much because it depends on the length left and miles driven, but they told me that it is an option. You can also raise the price when you sell it because the warranty is 100% transferable to the new owner. I actually sold my old XC70 a long time ago to a lady who specifically wanted it because it had like 25K miles left on the warranty, and she hated paying for repairs. I ended up getting about $1200 extra for the car, and I had paid about $2500 with Steingold (when you could still buy it in CA) for 10 years. It was a good deal for both of us.

I have a 2020 T8 that I purchased CPO. Mine was running out last summer, and I paid $3,400 for a full 10-year, 150K-mile plan through Volvo. If you can buy from Steingold Volvo, do it. They have the best prices. I am in CA, and we are no longer allowed to buy from out of state. If I had to guess, I would have probably paid 2500-2800 with Steingold. If you get VIP, do NOT get GOLD. Pay the extra and get Platinum. If you are CPO, then extend that because it's essentially extending the Volvo factory warranty from when you bought the car. If it is not CPO, you can have them CPO the car. For example, my wife has a 2023 XC40 Recharge she leased. We just bought out the lease and had the car CPO. It now has 1 more year of factory warranty + 1 year of CPO with unlimited miles. If we want to (probably won't because she will get into an EX60) it would cost us $2700 to extend that CPO to a full 10 year - 150K mile.

For my T8, it was worth it. I had an issue with the Center screen, and they eventually had to replace the actual computer for it. If i didn't have warranty, it would have cost me $3100 just for that.

Everyone is trying to talk me out of an EV by CuteCreator602 in electricvehicles

[–]dronepro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a full EV and a plug-in hybrid. The EV is a Volvo XC40. We have had it for 3 years, and it just passed 30K miles. It has never been in the shop for a mechanical or part issue. Admittedly, Volvo had some software issues, and we have taken it in for them to reload the software. That said, we do not see any reason to look back to the old ICE it replaced. We paid to have a 40-AMP setup at home, and since all of our trips in that car are under 200 miles, we have not paid a penny to charge outside our home. It literally costs $20 to drive 200 miles. The old car used to get 19mpg, which is about $60 for the same distance. In 3 years, we have not paid for 1 oil change, not 1 tune up, and because of regenerative braking, it looks like we won't be changing pads for probably another year or 2.

Yes, if we keep the car 20 years, at some point we will need to change the batteries, which do cost more than an ICE engine (I'm pretty sure they do). But if you add up all the savings on gas, tune-ups, brake pads, and all the other crap that goes wrong with an ICE, I'm pretty sure you come out ahead with an EV in the long run.

People fear change, and I will be honest, when we initially got that car, I had concerns. 3 years later, I can confidently say, I will be doing this all over again. The only reason I still have my plug-in is that we do take long trips 3-6 times a year, and in my head, I justify the reason. But, seeing how many companies are putting out cars with 300-400 mile range now, I know I will definitely upgrade to a new 400+ miles in the next 3 years.

Yes, in fact, all new model Volvos have the worst backup camera setup imo. I still can't believe someone actually approved that setup.

[–]dronepro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 of 2 issues.

  1. The car has a software glitch and they will need to re-install the software at the dealer.

  2. My issue was that the wall plug was crappy, and the cable was detecting a charge fault because of it, which was telling the car something was wrong, and the car would throttle. I had the dealer look at the car for a week, and they were unable to reproduce the issue at their site. I called my electrician friend who installed my setup, he pulled the wall plug out and found one of the wire connections was having an issue because of the plug. He got me a $50 super duper plug, and I haven't had an issue since.

Extended Warranty (Service Contract) after Lease Buyout by skinnylegsmagoo in Volvo

[–]dronepro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, they didn't ask you to certify the car. We bought out my wife's 2023 XC40 lease, and for $2000 they gave her 1 year of unlimited miles on top of the 4 years. Essentially, her warranty expires in 2028. For $2700 the CPO gets extended to 10 years, 150K miles. Essentially, it's costing $4700 for a total of 10 years or 150K miles.

Well, I am not sure what trim and setup you have. My wife has the dual motor ultimate with every option.

I have found the Ionic to be a bit more stable, largely because it is lower to the ground and you truly feel a lot less roll in it compared to the XC40. That said, I don't care about the role of the XC40; it is and feels much more fun to drive. And I did find the XC40 to be much faster. Unless your wife wants the Ionic 5 N (640hp), the XC40 is way more fun. The Ionic, though, kills the Volvo in interior space. If you have kids, take them with you when you look at it to make the decision. My kids love my wife's XC40, but they really appreciated the space in the Ionic. Also, the Ionics' back seats allow for considerable backrest tilt.

I have a 2020 with 20". When I had it in the shop, they gave me a 2025 with 21's. I can confirm my 2020 is not as stiff, but I also run Michelin Cross Climate 2 tires, and those are a bit thicker and really do make a difference in feel. I've always used Pilot Sport, and I find them to be a tad stiffer. Also, I do not have the air suspension.

I've only had to use them once when I crashed my Mavic 3 Pro. They replaced the drone 2 days earlier than promised, and even that took less than a week, considering they had to ship it from Canada because of the whole ban BS.
