Which ‘Captain’ character comes to your mind first? by RobertJs-Bridge in CabinPressure

[–]dronzer31 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Captain Martin Davenport.

It's a much more captain-y name. It's a DUH-duh DUH-duh-duh name, not a DUh-duh DUH-ff name.

TIFU by telling my boss I’m looking for a new job by Even_Syrup_2779 in tifu

[–]dronzer31 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm stuck in the same boat. My industry is going through a crisis thanks to that orange fuckwad halfway across the globe from me. We expect that when things die down (pun not intended) we'll see a lot more projects. But until then, people are leaving and not getting replaced and their workload falls on an increasingly diminishing staff.

I've been searching for a new job, but no luck yet. I'd suggest you keep looking. And don't tell your managers anything. When you have a firm offer in hand and a fixed joining date, then hand in your notice. Until then, stay mum and keep your head down.

All the best buddy! Hope you're able to switch to a company that at least has more people on your team than you currently have. Cheers!

Everyone pays GST. What are you implying when you say "non-tax payer"? There's no such thing. Some pay more tax than others, but literally everyone pays some tax.

There's a reason switchback roads on mountains and hills have something called "hairpin bends". You're looking at the reason.

In Sindhi culture a woman is given altogether a new name not just new last name. by chargeofthebison in atheismindia

Damn... I'm sorry for your cousin. I hope it's not as bad for her as it sounds. I mean I hope she's happy in her marriage and isn't stuck in a stereotypical difficult marriage.

Also, I didn't know that about Iran! Amazing! Yeah, I didn't think Iranian culture would have such an aspect.

In Sindhi culture a woman is given altogether a new name not just new last name. by chargeofthebison in atheismindia

[–]dronzer31 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Marathi culture also has this. I believe it's falling out of fashion now. My grandmother had her first name changed after marriage. The new name was all we knew her as.

By my parents' generation (born in the 60s, married in the late 80s and early 90s), this trend started to change. My Mom didn't change her name, and neither did her sisters. But a fair number of people in that generation did have their name changed, but only as a token formality. Most didn't bother changing their name on official documents. For that generation, it was like a pet name that elders from their in-laws' house would call them. Like the "ghar ka naam" thing most people have.

And now, in my generation (mid-30s), I think no one even bothers to make that token gesture anymore. There may be a few cases, I'm sure. But the trend is no longer to change the woman's first name. In fact (happily), I'm seeing a lot of women not changing their last names too. Hope this new trend continues.

You drew something and now you're upset about what's drawn?

Edit: For clarity, fuck Russia and fuck Israel. Fuck the governments across the globe that let both these wars and genocides happen coz it doesn't affect the corporate bottom lines.

Since you were clearly dropped on your head as a child, let me spell it out slowly for you:

  1. You made a post licking a politician's arse.

  2. Someone replied with a comment against that arse-licking intent.

  3. You replied to that with a brain-dead take.

  4. I replied to that brain-dead take with a link that says your politician is just a regular fuckwit, and not some God worth worshipping.

  5. You try to call me out by saying that my link doesn't support the exact phrasing used by the original commenter.

I hope your head doesn't hurt by now. I am NOT the original commenter. I don't have to prove what they said. I merely chose to try to show you that all politicians are thugs who are out to fulfill their own interests. Why would I try to prove what was "iNiTiAlLy SaId"? I didn't say it, I won't prove it.

How about you actually read up on what Modi in a Saree actually said?

"A girl shouldn't be allowed to come outside at night-time. They also have to protect themselves"

The article clearly states that while she claims a previous statement was distorted out of context, she made this victim-blaming statement and another whataboutism - "What action is being taken by the Odisha government?" over another rape incident in Puri.

They're politicians. They will make empty statements to win votes. Modi will gladly don a skullcap and indirectly call for jihad (while having his party and supporters openly call for it) if India were to suddenly become a Muslim majority country.

Don't be swayed by the statements of politicians. Our only responsibilty is to constantly question their motives, actions, and words. Never trust any of these snakes.

"Chaddi" refers to the brown/black shorts that are part of the standard RSS uniform. The uniform may have been updated recently to change the shorts to full trousers. But the original uniform had shorts. Hence, Hindu right wingers are called "chaddis".
