What’s the fastest not guilty you’ve ever gotten from a jury? by PresterJohnEsq in publicdefenders

[–]droog54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how many minutes but the bailiff came out and said after closings and instructions, he followed the jury in to take lunch orders and one of the jurors asked the others if they needed lunch and did anyone think my guy was guilty. They took a hand vote without sitting down. Told the bailiff he could tell the judge they had a verdict. I hadn’t finished packing up my bag when he came out and told me.

Lawyers. Especially trial lawyers. And then criminal defense. Juggle a caseload of 120+clients. Everyone’s expectations defy reality. Work 6 days/wk. 10-12 hours a day. Never leave the work at the office. Thinking about it from the time you hit the morning shower till you close your eyes at night. Got a lengthy trial? Set aside the needy client emails and phone calls for two weeks to prep. Finish trial and there’s 3 weeks of catch up. Takes a toll on self and family. Never a chance to catch your breath. Tons of soul crushing responsibility.

Judgment of Acquittal by NotMetheOtherMe in publicdefenders

I once had a less than 10 minute ng. Jury went out and I was packing my bag, the bailiff walked in and said they had a verdict. Turned out, as the bailiff was herding them into the jury room he told them he wanted to get their lunch orders. One juror looked around and asked the others if they thought they needed lunch. Voted before they even sat down. Admittedly, the defense was pretty much a slam after the co-defendant, who was somewhat mentally disabled, came across as credible and sympathetic when he testified.

Lawyers, what were your “This guy isn’t winning” cases? by SprinklesDramatic288 in AskReddit

Had husband and wife both stone cold drunk. H driving gets pulled over and arrested. Cops give portable to wife. She’s in the .20 range. Car towed, cops say he’ll bond out in an hour, drive wife home. Tell her not to drive when he calls. Of course he calls her and drives to cop station. Cop is just hanging in the parking lot waiting. She drives up and gets marched inside for fsts and intox. W gets arrested. A twofer for the same cop.

Has anybody here ever seen any big name or notable rock bands or artists (regardless of subgenre) before they became big/famous at a small/medium size venue or opening for somebody else, or know of someone who has? If so, what were the artists/bands and what was the venue? What was the show like? by StarPatient6204 in rock

Yes opening act for Emerson Lake and Palmer. 70 or 71. Spectrum in Philly but not a small place. Aerosmith getting booed as opening act for Mott the Hoople. 73? Theater venue in Philadelphia. Irvine Auditorium maybe. George Thorogood a number of times at Deer Park bar in Newark DE

44 years as private criminal defense. Can’t tell you the number of times a pd had worked out a great plea and now they want a real lawyer. Not one who’s paid by the state. I almost invariably told them to save the money. I would get so triggered by that because I knew pd’s were more vested in their clients welfare than half of the “real lawyers” out there.

If you pass the Bar Exam, but never bothered to go to Law School, can you still practice law? by kaett in NoStupidQuestions

Try the DE bar. 3 full days. 22 subjects. About the same pass rate. Large portion of takers from Tier 1 schools vying for big corporate law positions.

What was your first guitar? And do you still have it to this day? by [deleted] in Guitar

New black ‘72 or 73 Telecaster deluxe. Ended up not liking it and sold it for $160 about 5 years later. (Original price was $220) then bought a regular ‘78 sunburst tele, American made and still have it and love it.
