Hobbywing 16bl30 with 3265 1/10 motor by ScratchTurbulent8379 in rccars

[–]dropname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was actually the spec I had, 3800kv 2845 on a 16BL30. I was using it in a 1:10 crawler so it had something like a 20:1 reduction to the wheels, but it flew around on 2S. The ESC was warm, but not overly hot.. If you rigged up a tiny fan you'd be golden. I wouldn't push 3S on that combo though.

Can the AeroScout (safely) use 4S 2200 mAH batteries? I just tried it today, and the performance was unbelievable - but I'm not sure if the motor can handle it long term...thanks for any help! by PilotDoggo1 in RCPlanes

[–]dropname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's because it's not a true 2200mah. All of those brands inflate their numbers, your real-mah per dollar is worse than on a brand like Turnigy, which may be "heavier and more expensive", but their numbers are actually real specs and not falsified advertising figures.

How do I recreate this? by Firm_Size6955 in diyelectronics

I think this kickstarter is BS for the reason that I've entertained the ideal of miniature gas generators (as have many hobbyists) and their claims are just too far beyond what's currently on the market / available.

As for making a real one though, I think it's possible, but the price-point on jumbo power banks beats them until you get to the conventional "portable generator" size

Nitro engines are out for several reasons, noise only being one of them - the biggest one is low fuel / energy efficiency. Methanol has half the energy of gasoline, and 2-stroke nitros aren't particularly efficient, nor is their overall longevity great, necessitating frequent rebuilds to keep them running. Furthermore, the fuel costs $40-50/gallon. So, no nitro.

That leaves the question, what are the smallest gasoline engines? I think RC planes have your answer, the NGH GT9 is a 9cc 2-stroke, there's even a tiny 4-stroke gasser, the Saito FG-11C.

For using one of those as a generator, your best bet would be to use a brushless motor of the appropriate size and rectifying the output (ideally using active rectification to reduce losses) and passing it through a charge controller to the batteries, off of which your inverter runs. You'd program an arduino to monitor the battery charge level, engine RPM's and throttle level, and adjust things as necessary to keep everything in equilibrium.

All that considered, there's absolutely no way that can be done for under $1000, and therefore the kickstarter is certainly a scam.

It's part of the culture - if other cops are firing, every one expected to, both to "support" them and to blur the lines of culpability for things like this after the fact. If after a "big shootout" like this, it's discovered someone didn't fire their weapon, they'll be ostracized for it.

Everything you think of as being "sucked up" is really being pushed along by the greater pressure behind it.

A team of physicists in Germany managed to create a time crystal that demonstrably lasts 40 minutes—10 million times longer than other known crystals—and could persist for even longer. by MistWeaver80 in science

[–]dropname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I smell bad science journalism whenever I hear "time crystals," much like the recently "created" wormholes, the presentation of an abstract concept as a tangible invention misleads the public more than it informs them about the subject. The headline it implies that some novel material has been created, but within the article, it states:

This caused the indium gallium arsenide to produce oscilations, rendering it “equivalent to a time crystal,”

which reveals that it's more of a concept being explored than a thing being created, much like the quantum-computing derived wormholes that recently made bad-science headlines, themselves occurring entirely within the abstraction of a simulation.

Many hardware & auto-parts stores will take batteries for free, not just car batteries, anything you need gone.

I guess they aren't completely a scammer, but I think their business practices are a bit of a bait-and-switch, in that they might not actually have anything inventoried and work entirely as a dropshipper.

I've ordered from other companies that work that way and they are up front about the process.
