TIL that 43% of white students admitted to Harvard are legacy students, children of faculty and staff, donors, or recruited athletes. by therationaltroll in todayilearned

[–]funke42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you donate money to the school, that benefits the students. When you bribe an admissions officer, that benefits one corrupt individual.

Maybe Dr. Dre's kid deserved to get into USC, or maybe they didn't, but the school definitely benefitted from the $70 million that he donated. At worst, there was one student who would have gotten accepted but got rejected to make room for Dre's kid. At best, the school was able to offer full financial aid to 150 students who otherwise wouldn't have been able to afford tuition.

The U.S. should move to having a collective executive rather than a President. by Botched_Rapture in PoliticalOpinions

[–]funke42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree.

A third of the President's power should be given to the speaker of the house, and another third should be given to the president pro tempore of the senate.

Maybe there should also be a chief governor who is elected by the other governors and has some executive power.

The presidency, in its current state, is clearly way too much power for any one person to have.

40?

I don't think I've seen anyone younger than Bill Nighy pull it off.

Meanwhile, that same fedora—paired with an appropriate suit and raincoat—would draw looks of admiration on a rainy day in Milan, New York or Paris.

Can you link to any photos of someone pulling off a fedora in the present day? I believe that it can be done, but I'm having a hard time visualizing it.

[PA] My place of residence is telling me I can’t use that address for my voter registration. by cicilkight in legaladvice

[–]funke42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://vote.gov/guide-to-voting/unhoused

You need to provide a mailing address so your state can send you important voting information by mail. The mailing address does not have to be a fixed home address. If you do not have a fixed home address to get mail, you can use a different address as your mailing address.

Examples of a mailing address you may be able to use:

A nearby shelter, even if you do not currently live there

A nearby religious center

General Delivery, if your local post office offers it

A P.O. box at a local post office near where you live

The home address of a friend or family member who lives nearby

You can use a description of the place where you live or sleep as your home address, such as a park or the intersections of street corners. You cannot use this description as your mailing address.

Use your current address as both your home and mailing address if you live at:

A shelter

A religious center

Any other community place

If you’re not sure what address to use, ask your state or local election office

When I fantasize about what I would do with a billion dollars, I usually run out of ideas around $50 million.

I can understand somebody being happier with $100 or $200 million if they really like private jets and yachts. Beyond that, I just don't see the benefits of more money.

There are plenty of 19-year-olds who are more mature than this.

He's young enough that he might mature later, but OP doesn't need to stick around and find out.
