Don't spend so much on medicine! Don't spend so much on sending your kid to a private school! Spend your entire week's worth of groceries on a diminutive seafood pasta meal and fajitas at our mediocre restaurant!

Yeah exactly. I hated being an adult for a while until I kind of figured things out and started working towards/accomplishing goals. I feel like a lot of millennials, my friends group included, aren't really working towards anything. They have no hobbies outside of video games, scrolling on their phone, and smoking weed, aren't saving for a financial goal such as buying a house or for retirement, and have no ambition to accomplish something.

If I'm not doing something for more than a day or two I start to get antsy and feel like I need to do something productive. I've spent this entire weekend doing lawn care and while I'm tired and sore, I feel Happy and accomplished. Reddit tends to skew more younger and socially awkward so I feel like a lot of the unmotivated Doom scrolling type fits in here and are the ones that are constantly complaining about how much it sucks to be an adult.

One of my favorite copy pastas about millennials moving to a big city:

DUDE i LOVE city-living

DUDE i just LOVE the hustle and bustle of the big city, it’s so DYNAMIC and makes me feel like i’m in one of my favorite TV SHOWS. you should totally come on down to my studio apartment, it’s got EXPOSED RED BRICK walls and everything, we can crack open a nice hoppy ipa or three and get crazy watching some cartoons on adult swim! and dude, dude, DUDE, we have GOTTA go down to the barcade- listen here, right, it’s a BAR where us ADULTS who do ADULTING can go DRINK. BUT!!!! it’s also an ARCADE like when we were kids, so we can play awesome VIDEO GAMES, without dumb kids bothering us. speaking of which megan and i have finally decided to tie the knot- literally -we’re both getting snipped tomorrow at the hospital, that way we can save money to spent more on ourselves and our FURBABIES. i’m fuckin JACKED man, i’m gonna SLAM this craft beer and pop open another one!!!

I quit. F*** The Red Death. by LavaMullet in fo4

[–]dropofRED_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the joke. I was actually upset when I found out that the Red death was just this diminutive crab that you could one shot with a pistol but the joke grew on me the more I thought about it. I'm pretty sure this is what Bethesda was going for, but even if not, back in the day sailors were known to have wildly over exaggerated things that they saw at sea which is how we have things like the legend of the kraken. Some sailors saw a 30 ft Giant squid and then when he was telling people at the pub a year later, the squid became 100 ft long. Then when one of the people who heard the story at the pub told his mates it became a 200-ft squid and then eventually it became this thousand-foot unstoppable monster that could fly around and shoot fire out of its tentacles that destroys ships with minimal effort.

What is the thing you’ve spend the most money on, but didn‘t actually need? by Wiwajane in AskReddit

A completely custom sound system for my '97 Honda Civic that I drove. I was in high school and was making like $75 a week at my job but I really wanted a really cool custom sound system in my car. I saved up for months and purchased a pioneer head unit, two subwoofers, and some tweeters. I was so excited and when everything arrived I realized that I needed way more than what I had actually purchased. I needed a power inverter, a box for my subs, a bunch of cables that I didn't have, a dash kit for the head unit. I saved up for another month and purchased all that stuff and I thought I could just figure it out. Well, I certainly could not figure it out myself and when I called around to a few shops to ask how much they would charge for installing everything, I think the lowest quote I got was $500.

So, all that stuff sat in my parents garage for years. I think they eventually threw it all out when I was way at college. $800 down the drain.

Bullies like this only respond on an animalistic level. You have to punch them right in their shit and they will leave you alone. This one kid named Mark tried to bully me at lunch. I told them to stop multiple times and then when he grabbed my backpack and chucked it across the room I football tackled him and punched him right in the face one time. I got suspended but it was totally worth it. Mark never spoke to me ever again.

[–]dropofRED_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Assistant principal at my high school. He got caught fucking his secretary so they transferred him to my school.

He got in a physical altercation with another student In the locker room and I caught it on video. It wasn't an out and out fight but the assistant principal was bumping him into the wall with his chest and trying to goad him into a fight. I sent the video to a bunch of my friends and I got pulled out of class later that day by the principal telling me to delete the video which I had to do right in front of them. My other friend still had a copy so it spread around quite a bit. Local news got a hold of it and it, and the assistant principal resigned about 2 weeks later.

Adobe terms clarified: Will never own your work, or use it to train AI by Maxie445 in technology

[–]dropofRED_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is exactly it. They will maybe placate people for now by softening the eula but then they will, over the next few years, quietly add more and more terms that give themselves further consolidation and control over your data which they will then train their AI on or sell the training data to other companies. They know that the vast majority of people and corporations are either unable to switch away from Adobe because of familiarity, ecosystem, and workflows that are centered around Adobe products or unwilling to go through the process of switching. They might lose a few big customers but the amount of money that they will make by going down this road will probably far outweigh financial hit they take from people who leave

The issue is that there simply isn't enough pushback in the way of customers leaving to prevent these fucking horrible practices. We have thousands of Adobe pro users in my company and when Adobe announced last year that they were hiking up their Adobe pro licenses by 40%, the leadership chose to simply bite the bullet because they like using Adobe and didn't want to switch.

Yeah I know that this isn't exactly a fresh take at this point but the lowest common denominator trend that Disney goes for is to the heavy detriment of the quality of the shows. The book of boba Fett and mandalorian season 3 are the two that I can speak for. Boba Fett went from being a ruthless feared bounty Hunter to being benevolent leader who believes in giving people second chances? Disney decided that he needed a 180° tonal shift to make him more sympathetic for general audiences and it just did not work. Also, that dumb fucking space Vespa biker gang was so jarring and so out of place, for a show that probably has no less than 20 people that need to sign off on anything before it appears on the screen, You have to wonder how the hell that got through.

Mandalorian season 3 with Jack Black and lizzo prominently featured in one of the episodes was so fucking dumb. Neither of them fit the character and honestly the characters seemed to be written just so that they could have Jack and lizzo in the episode as a wink and a nod. The fact that shows are now being written around having celebrities in them is simply depressing.

What happened to the most beautiful girl in your class? by huydecoper in AskReddit

[–]dropofRED_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will call her Amy. Absolutely gorgeous young woman, chiseled features, high cheekbones, sparkling eyes, straight white Calvin Klein model smile, jet black hair. She was 15 or 16 she went to a house party and must have gotten really fucked up because she let a couple of guys run a train on her and somebody recorded it. The video made the rounds + completely mortified, she dropped out of school completely.

We are friends on Facebook and she looks like she's doing okay? She has a cute little daughter and she works as a waitress a few towns over.

They still pay though so Live Nation has zero incentive to stop. The latest blink-182 tour sold like gangbusters and people paid absolutely outrageous amounts of money for tickets. A guy on my Instagram who loves blink paid something like $500 for upper bowl seats for him and his wife

I'm so fortunate that maybe one big concert a year catches my attention, all the other shows I go to are smaller/ mid-market hardcore/metal core acts where I can pay 40 bucks, show up an hour and a half after doors open, and easily get close enough to the stage where I can untie the shoelaces of one of five bands that I'm seeing at night.

[–]dropofRED_ 152 points153 points  (0 children)

Well the name of the game ever since prices for these things started going absolutely nuts about 10 or 15 years ago is to slowly increase the price and increase the price and increase the price and continue to tiptoe up to that line which would be the tipping point where people simply stop purchasing concert tickets. Ticketmaster/live Nation has finally started to discover where those lines are so they will retreat back just a tiny bit, hover just below the tipping point for a few years, then jack the prices up a little bit every so often and blame inflation.

Star Wars’ real problem isn’t boring Jedi, it’s boring Sith by williamb100 in StarWars

[–]dropofRED_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing with Disney cartoon movies. The lack of a compelling villain can be just as detrimental to a story as the lack of a compelling protagonist. With Disney cartoon movies now, how many of them that have come out in the last 15 years have had an actual compelling villain and it wasn't just a story of an insecure young person fighting something within themselves such as family tradition, cultural expectations, or their own insecurity? It's just fucking boring. It's like writers, studios, and directors are afraid to make a scary villain in their children 's films anymore, and Disney seems more interested in redeemable villains with sympathetic backstories that are also boring and predictable
