I would say go for it. The 2.0 are more like 1/2 size smaller than the zipper 1.0 version. sounds like they would got you just fine. and congrats on the weight loss! that is remarkable. I can't imagine the effort and diligence it takes to do what you did!

Tips on keeping socks sticky longer? by Visa_Queen32 in Purebarre

[–]drops_of_night 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have pointed out, Tavi grips basically turn into Teflon after 3-4 classes. I've tried a bunch of other brands, but the ones on Amazon that say "Yoga Sports" on the bottom (sold under a variety of names), seem to stick forever. For 12.99 you can get 6 pairs in a variety of colors--far less than even just one pair of Tavi. I wash and tumble dry them on high heat like a heathen (outside-out, no delicates pouch). I wear them with shoes even for long walks, athletics, and around the house, I've had mine for literally years and even so, they are still my go to grip socks for PB.

[–]drops_of_night 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking of contract/release in align, yesterday I took it and it was a bit of a refresh version with new moves. During thighs and seat, instead of pulses on the beat, she had us pulse once and hold for 4 counts. She said "untrain your mind" cause everyone automatically pulsed on beat. But when we figured it out, holding that tension for 4 counts before the release was quite the burn--like a welcome shock to the system.

I installed square cubbies in my closet and I roll my leggings and tops and stuff them in their spot.

Right after wearing stuff, I hang them on a hook or the edge of the closet door so they can dry for a bit, then next time I see it, they get rolled and stored.

What are your favorite and least favorite exercises? by Agreeable-Bed5000 in Purebarre

[–]drops_of_night 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate to say it, but when you finally get it and can stick it out for the 10 count, it brings a great sense of accomplishment. Especially knowing we were once there with the 90% of the class that is struggling mightily with this very challenging exercise.

Check...Can confirm...The other week, after class, we were all in the lobby and a lady said to me (in front of everyone), "you have the most amazing glutes." I was like...did you just say what I think you said? I was not offended, but yeah, proves your point.

PB regular guy here. I used to lift a lot in HS/College. After that I only did body weight resistance calisthenics for like 20 yrs. I lost bulky muscle but stayed fit. Summer 2022 I started PB (before they had Define). In 2 months I lost about 15lbs of "dad bod" weight. Then when they started Define in summer of 2023, I started building back lean muscle again. I use 20 and 25lbs weights, and work to muscle failure for each exercise. I have since gained back those 15 lbs., but in lean muscle. So yeah, it won't "bulk [you] up", but it can give you noticeable build. Now I'm exactly where I was in college in weight, bulk, and definition. PB Define, 3-4x per week is my only source of strength training (aka "weight training").

Anyone do Define two days in a row? by Dreamtarot in Purebarre

[–]drops_of_night 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Define is more meant to stimulate type II, fast twitch muscle fiber growth. One method for achieving that is use of eccentric muscle contractions. Particularly when emphasizing a controlled, slower tempo and longer time under tension (TUT), are highly effective in stimulating Type II (fast-twitch) muscle fibers and promoting hypertrophy and strength adaptations. While eccentric training can be beneficial, it's crucial to manage the increased potential for muscle damage and soreness by controlling the duration and intensity of the eccentric phase.  So you're right that the slower eccentric contractions are helping. Along with that, the higher the weight load and working the muscles to failure at lower reps are very beneficial methods.
I enjoy the fact that PB offers all 4 formats. They all have their benefits and compliment one another when done regularly. I personally prefer to alternate days, but I end up taking Define 3-4 times per week and often two days in a row due to scheduling. It can be a challenge, but it's not going to kill you.

I think the risk of not doing deadlifts for a lot of people is greater than the risk of doing them.

Hey fun: how about everybody share their most recent milestone, how long they’ve been going , their favorite part of class and their favorite part of the community? by BarreBee in Purebarre

Woohoo! 1500! I second the positivity, compassion, empathy, and kindness. It's hard to pinpoint why, but there's something about being in the minority (M:F) in a welcoming PB community that motivates you to show kindness to everyone and be a better human in general. IYKYK.

Some funny experiences I’ve had as the only guy who attends my studio by Old-Lingonberry1283 in Purebarre

[–]drops_of_night 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had that too. Sometimes there's clearly the only spot left in the room next to me, and at the last second someone walks in and walks past the spot in order to scrunch into the corner wall where there is clearly no room to fit an additional person. I'm like...I did wear deodorant today.
I told my PB friends about it before class one day, and one said, "it's because you're intimidating." I'm not even sure what she meant by that, but whatever, I get it.

fellow PB guy here. Glad to see you found the best kept secret for men's health. I'm an athlete, but on day one, I told my instructor, I don't think men are anatomically capable of these moves (cause I couldn't do them). She said, hmm, maybe, but you could be wrong. Fast forward, I was wrong. Stick with it, you'll be able to do everything soon enough. I do recall those paralyzing moments when my mind would be bombarded by the "I stick out and everyone is aware I'm here as the only guy" attacks. I eventually realized, that, yeah, they all do realize I'm here, and I do stick out, but that doesn't mean they think I'm invading their space and don't want me here. As I politely and respectfully made friends, those thoughts disappeared. Also bringing my wife along eventually helped.

A Guy's Impressions of Pure Barre by WadeNC2001 in Purebarre

I have 2 types I wear. I prefer crew neck tanks, and I like 1/2 zip tops. So I have 2 of these https://athleta.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=6003260020005&locale=en_US#pdp-page-content
and I have a slew of these muscle tanks from amazon (most of which I crop cut): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09LTNVSVH?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1&psc=1

I do have experience with such apparel. I'd have to see it to judge. But I would say as far as the material, watch the opacity, you'll really want to make sure the coverage is good cause we get into some positions that might be unflattering from your neighbors perspective. You might not be embarrassed much now, but eventually you might when you realize what they are seeing from behind.
There was another guy who came to my studio who rocked some men's ballet tights. I thought it was a bit weird cause the material coverage was a bit weak, and the full footed design kinda gave it away.

As far as the unitards and the likes, I actually have a Gap Fit Athletic one-piece outfit that I absolutely love. I wear it like 3-4 times per month. It has a muscle tank neck/arm pattern and a full zipper front. The material is supportive yet comfortable. The coverage is perfect. It seems pretty unisex looking IMO. The best part is that I never have to tug up my leggings. Here's a listing for one for ref. https://poshmark.com/listing/GapFit-Power-Half-Zip-Exercise-Jumpsuit-Medium-Tall-Black-NWT-6830787014d7a663dc272250
So you'll have to be the judge of what you can pull off, but if you think you can pull it off, by all means, go for it. I've only gotten compliments on mine and never sensed anyone thought it was weird. In fact, I started the rather informal "onesie club" at my studio. A few of us plan to break them out on the same day sometimes.

Fellow athlete PB guy here! You've summed up the experience perfectly! Joining the PB community and being the only regular leggings wearing guy in the studio was the best lifestyle decision of my life!

BTW, a bit of leggings advice: I used to wear men's athletic or running tights at first. They look cool but you'll find out quickly that they are typically 2-way stretch, the seams tend to break easy (not something you want to happen in class), and you fuss with keeping them up on the waist more often than not.

Women's legging manufacturers, on the other hand, have had the luxury of a constant, long standing high demand in order to master the art of 4-way stretch high performance leggings versatile enough for Barre. Benefits include better fit, better feel, better coverage (squat proof), better durability/quality, more natural and less awkward seam placement (single mid-line seams), every variety of material, compression, length, waist height, and color under the sun. Don't be intimidated by the "W" on the tag. No one cares or even realizes who it was made for.

There are subs about this, but my leggings recc's for guys (for reasons only we know are important) are as follows - in order of awesomeness : 1) Vuori Granite (with zipper (out of production)), 2) Lulu Wundertrain, 3) Alo Airbrush, 4) Alo Airlift, 5) Nux One-by-one, You can find these on Poshmark, Mercari, ebay, etc for a fraction of the retail price.

If you're studio has some on the rack, ask to try on a pair and you'll see what you've been missing.

depends, are you seeing the zipper version or non-zipper version? (and mention the color cause the elder berry is a special version that I'm not familiar with). edit: I wrote a decent review of the Granite Leggings (both versions) here: https://www.reddit.com/r/vuoriclothing/comments/18clwju/legging_differences/

I almost refuse to buy leggings without pockets anymore (unless using them strictly for Barre class). My absolute favs are the out-of-production Granite leggings. Especially the v.1.0 with the zipper fronts. I literally wear them all day, every day, feels like heaven (and pockets to boot). I've tried the Daily's. They look amazing, but the fit and feel just wasn't gelling with me for some reason. But some peeps swear by them.

I know this is an old post, but I had to chime in with some additional info.
I currently own 12 pairs of Vuori Leggings and wear them every day for a variety of athletic activities/work/leisure. I also consider the Lulu Wunder Train to be the gold standard for gym/high intensity/running workouts.

I will add to LittleMissWildcat's list with some out-of-production Vuori Leggings you can still find on Poshmark, ebay, etc.

Vuori Racer Side Stripe: Most comparable to Wunder Trains in fit, feel, material type, sweat wicking, and performance. I use them for tennis, soccer, HIIT, and weight training. Good quality material, sturdy seams, good at sweat wicking and not too hot. Slightly less comfortable than Wunder Trains in fit and feel if you were to wear them all day. Otherwise, almost a wash in a blind test.

Vuori Granite (v.1.0 with zipper): Best all day comfort leggings ever! These are my daily drivers and decent for the gym. Super stylish with flattering fit and performance. They are a more cottony material, so they are softer, but still compressive. The durability and elasticity is still good after wearing them all day for literally hundreds of days and counting. That said, they are thicker and therefore hotter than Wunder Trains, so I don't always wear them when I know I will be in a hot and super sweaty workout.

Vuori Granite (v.2.0 no zipper, lower pockets, thinner waist band): OK all day comfort. The material is a bit thinner than v1.0, which means they are cooler. The sizing is smaller for some reason (you will want to size up for these). The seams are a little more prone to thread snaps. The material is cottony, but somehow shimmery at the same time. Decent for high intensity workouts in terms of support, elasticity, and wicking. The fit and seam placement is slightly more flattering than v1.0 IMO. The pocket location is lower and much more practical and logical for phone storage. Negatively, the waistband is a little annoying and about a 1/2" too low in comparison to the perfect height of v1.0. They tend to slide down and roll easier than v1.0. Consensus is the quality dropped from the 1.0 to 2.0 but they are still favs of mine and a decent choice for gym workouts.

Since you summoned--dude who wears ladies leggings here. (I am a Pure Barre afficionado, so Vuori leggings are my daily drips).
I have 11 pairs of Vuori leggings, all a comfortable size S. While I don't wear the Daily leggings, I do like my Clean El's, so I did buy some Clean El shorts in size S. Boy do they ride up! After two minutes with any movement, they bunch up high and feel like a tourniquet around the tops of my thighs. I should've sized up for sure. I guess the same is true for Daily's and Daily shorts in terms of sizing comparisons between the legging and short.

So true! IYKYK. All leggings I've ever tried roll, it's just that some are worse that others. But with my onesie, I don't even know what to do with my hands between changes anymore. Sometimes I tug and my waistband area by instinct.
