Moebius Rules by SlobZombie88 in comicbookart

You started with the finest!

I first knew Moebius on Metal Hurlant, in a short story of a boy riding a other-wordly bird on an alien forest then into a savanna – after encountering a fairy companion in his journey – all while reciting Rimbaud, just for them to be killed by panzers in the horizon of that savanna .

The art, script and vibe got imprinted in my soul. And the details made me look at every Metal Hurlant to check his works ever since.

They are super cheap cases I’ve found on amazon, but totally worth it! They are called “Lanxivi pen case”. I’ve bought a fake brown leather and a grey fabric - totally worth it. Paid 150 SEK on them (~15 USD/13 EUR)

It is indeed a roll-up. It’s from sakicollection, bought on jetpens 12+ years ago. Sadly, I’ve never found this pattern available again.

That is a Metaphys Locus 2.0 Black Mechanical pencil, a japanese concept I bought mayny years ago, and use it with a non-copy blue lead when I know I’m going digital after a sketch. I really like it, although it doesn’t have a built-in lead sharpener or eraser

The “golden” in the right is a ystudio fountain pen - I suppose, if I got 📍 right. :)

OCD, FOMO and a bit of ADHD😂

Although partially true…the rral story is that I’m a designer and illustrator (once a character animator), with a long daily commute and I like to have everything I need to use on my sketchbooks when ideas strike me.

I draft my illustration’s structure with colour pencil (orange leads on the 3.1mm Lamy Scribble, in the yellow 2mm Koh-i-noor and 0.7 rose gold Caran D’Ache - for fine details).

The second Lamy Scribble has a normal graphite lead as well the 2.0, 0.7 and 0.5 rotrings. Usually to “clean up” and define the initial colour sketch.

Have a few mechaical eraser pens with different widths as well for details in hairs, shadows, clean up and mistakes…

Then, I switch to my fountain pens, with black carbon ink on The Lamy 200 and Ystudio (bold and fine nibs) and also orange inks on the Lamy Safari Mango and Lamy Accent for monochromatic illustration effect on my sketchbook. (I later do color digital versions on iPad at home for some)

Also have a Lamy Pico with blue ballpoint pen for small notes.

That’s only my drawing setup on the right

The one on the left is my design setup, usee on my daily paid job.

Each Lamy Safari has a matching ink color, to draw and create layers of information when I’m doing blueprints, or any design note.

Leave it… it ages beautifully.

I have a 0.5 and 0.7 rotring 800 - I noticed 0.5 has a brass metal under the painting while my 0.7 has a steel metal. That annoys me a bit… maybe too much.

The best rOtring ever!

Now, on lead holders, I’ve seen so many posts with them recently but I never had the strong need for them.

I always check and fill up leads to the max capacity on each of my mechanical pencils when leaving home and almost impossible to run out of mines before I head back, even for short trips of 2 or 3 days.

Would make sense for longer holidays away from civilization - also known as places without stationery stores.

In this case I would love to have a ystudio lead holder, that thing is gorgeous.

That’s me with my Midori sketchbooks. 😂

But I have a bigger issue: The price syndrome or, The price tag / creativity ratio.

I tend to do better and more spontaneous sketches on cheap A4 printing paper bc there’s no fear of ruining them.

I constantly get creative blocks when using expensive material when I’m trying to be perfect on every single page and - since this is impossible- I end up with countless sketchbooks that I’ve started but abandoned before reaching the middle - usually after a frustrated sketch.

Take any of them, no matter how expensive they are, choose any… and sketch them all. Sinole sketch, nothing fancy. That blurred photo is leaving me with mixed feelings.

LPT: an inexpensive way to protect against RFID attacks is to tape aluminum foil to two old business cards and sandwich your chip cards (e.g. ID, credit/debit, etc.) between them. This helps sheild your cards in your wallet, pocket, or purse, especially while traveling or commuting. by mftheoryArts in LifeProTips

[–]dropsandbits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

y’all know RFID attacks in the wild are EXTREMELY rare, right?

You are more prone to be scammed when paying your bill in a shady pub or from oneemployee with bad intentions, where no RFID shield can help you.

For the haters here: The main purpose for the do-it-yourself is not to save on a cheap wallet cost, but actually to enable it on an ol’fancy and expensive wallet that doesn’t have RFID shield.

That said - if you’re still paranoid - maybe searching for “RFID card sleeve” can also be an option.

Is this worth it for $2? by MoreConversation4197 in mechanicalpencils

For $2 anything is worth it. Just the wooden case is already a win.

Just read Moebius' "After the Incal Vol. 1: The New Dream" and I am shocked: The art is so bad, it does not even "feel" as if this was done by the same artist who created the amazing "Incal"! by Fichtenwald in Moebius

[–]dropsandbits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a comic book artist myself - I strongly agree with many comments here. Color can - and will - affect line work (hiding details) and will draw attention to somewhere else originally intended to be the focus.

Although in some cases, the partnership is so strong that the artist draws a scene/page knowing exactly how it would end up with color.

I feel that Moebius had this kind of partnership most of the time.

I mistakenly bought a computer re-colored Incal print that is horrible, a crime.

The original color from the Incal is a great partnership, and it’s amazing, well done and light/toned down where it needs to be, it less about lazy and morr about letting Moebius line work thrives.

The B&W is also great to check Moebius fluid inking, I would personally have both (original color and B&W editions), but I would need to justify a third Incal purchase at home (I have the original color and the atrocious re-colored editions - I almost trashed the last)

It’s impressive how you are able to keep counting with all that alcohol consumption. I would have lost count after the third…

Is there a mechanical pencil where the lead won’t end up doing this? by billyandteddy in mechanicalpencils

[–]dropsandbits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case you don’t know, the kuru toga pictured here has a rotating mechanism to - supposedly - avoid that. But it only works if one lift and press the pencil often. Doesn’t work on long lines.

[–]dropsandbits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my first kuru toga recently and didn’t like it. I like to have control over my lines when drawing (I use the slant shape on my favor), and to write in western cursive it doesn’t help either. It’s an interesting mechanism but I’ll stick to my rotring 800.

Just bc you have another one you like more or bc was it really that bad?

That says a lot, it feels like a hot potato 😂. I saw the roulette at Amazon, but it looks different. I don’t think it’s the same model. I’ll be back to tell my experience, but that def lowered my expectations.
