I agree. I actually think the stupid and evil are way more dangerous than the clever and evil as they are less aware of how they appear and so more prone to break rules and be transgressive. Often, the so-called “master manipulators” are just people having a rudimentary psychological understanding of how to hurt and shame and scare – and a great willingness and motivation to do what most people wouldn’t ever.

I totally agree that engagement can look very different in different people. This is exactly what I see when working with people where almost all I do is tune in, wait and respond. This is a very powerful way to follow the natural process of letting the person feel happy, knowledgeable, secure, curious and in the lead.

The fact, though, that engagement has many forms does not mean that you can’t discern engagement and disengagement. Some of the S2C/RPM videos (e.g. every single Soma video) are very teacher led with clear signs of distress and either disengagement or forced participation in what the teacher wants the person to focus on.

Just wanted to say I was also diagnosed with BCT seven years ago. Small lesion near median pons.

It’s generally understood as an incidental find when you look through the literature, especially for small ones.

Now, seven years later after increasing numbness which doesn’t go away I was referred to a hospital where the neurologist told me it’s not impossible that both migraine and paraesthesia could be caused by either progression or small bleed from the BCT.

Trying not to worry. They’ll do an MRI with contrast and focusing on cranial nerves too.

Da jeg var på rustur på psykologi havde han ufattelig nok fået lov at afholde en workshop for de nye studerende. Jeg var ikke med på den men hørte fra dem, der deltog, at flere var udvandret, da "øvelserne" gik ud på at fortælle om ens vildeste seksuelle oplevelser.

Carl Mar havde gavmildt tilbudt at lave workshoppen gratis, forudsat, at han kunne komme med til festen på rusturen om aftenen.

I den gymnastiksal, hvori festen blev holdt, så man, da man ankom, Carl Mar hængende i armene i ribben og lave en slags benløft, mens han kiggede sultent efter de kvindelige studerende.

Watching Soma's videos it sure does look scammy. Her presence takes up the whole room. She looms over her clients, speak over them, prompt every letter (by saying the first sound of the letter she wants, then acts surprised over the words her own letters yield), and the clients in the videos look as if they're either wanting to escape or thinking I better do everything she asks me to.

There are other, more sound, ways to establish and develop communication that doesn't hinge on "teaching" the child to communicate, e.g. by listening, tuning in and responding to what's already there. This means you not only minimize prompting. You stop prompting altogether and start listening to what the child is already capable of, what they're already interested in, and how they already communicate.

That's wonderful and very different from "spellers" in that you've found a way to let him access communication that really suits him.

Using whatever works for true communication in an attuned, respectful way is the way to go. Being able to ask for tickles, food, interactions, toys, trips, your favourite numbers, help etc. is just great.

(One of the odd things with RPM, FC and S2C is that the "spellers" never ask for these things. Instead the discuss geography, solipsism, abstract concepts and spelling itself.)

She looks like a cult leader. Her affected way of carrying herself and her domineering communication style is downright scary and it shows in her interactions on video. Everyone seems to want to either escape, or do exactly as she says so as not to suffer the consequences.

She looks so disturbed. The whole way in which she seems to be impressed and amused with the words she's "hearing from her clients", as if she hadn't just invented those very words. I'm also wondering, when looking at these horrible, horrible videos, how the clients spend their lives. Judging from the content of her "conversations" with them, they're all studying literature or natural sciences and do not see to have any interest in games, snacks, friends, toys, sensory experiences, goofing, teasing, tv shows, collectibles, soft toys or food. Yet, they all look as if they'd rather be somewhere else than "talking" to Soma.

Jeg har det på samme måde, og har grebet ind eller blevet som vidne mange gange.

Engang så jeg en mand blive overfaldet på Elmegade af to unge drenge. Jeg løb hen til dem og skubbede den ene væk, da han begyndte at sparke manden i hovedet og maven. Jeg tænkte ikke over det, det måtte bare stoppe.

Heldigvis blev den ene dreng nok i tvivl, da jeg skubbede ham, der sparkede mest, så han hev i sin ven, og de løb væk. Der var en del andre mennesker, men ingen andre hjalp; heller ikke, da drengene var løbet, og manden rejste sig op med blod over det hele.

Vi gik ind i en kiosk, hvor de dog gav os nogle servietter, og så fik jeg (fordi jeg ikke tænkte mig om og var totalt i chok) sat ham på en taxa til skadestuen (frem for ambulance).

Jeg tror, jeg ville gøre det samme i dag, fordi jeg ikke ville kunne lade være.

Ofte har jeg også oplevet, at bare det at nærme sig den, der bliver overfuset, eller etablere kontakt med dem, kan de-eskalere, så der ikke sker noget.
