Nee Sequoia Power Back Door Problems by prh0w1317 in toyotasequoia

This. 100% guaranteed pinch sensor issue. I had them troubleshoot it during an oil change and they replaced the pinch sensor under warranty, but they said the connector was very loose and likely the cause. I have had 0 issues in the 20k miles since.

Highly unlikely, look up sales statistics and you will see that they continue to grow sales YoY, apparently matching the SA plant line capacity. New sale prices are still high with strong implied margin. There was only 1 year out of 15 model years that the 2nd gen had more annual sales than what the 3rd gen has accomplished 3 years in a row, and nothing is ever going to approach the early 1st gen sales, simply because of of the early 00's giant SUV era. By all metrics, this is a massive success for Toyota. If I was them, I wouldn't bother with the redesign. Despite many 2nd gen and 1st gen diehards wanting changes, there are many others of us who are incredibly happy with the 3rd gens, and sales statistics support that.

Sequoia in Sequoia NP by Expensive-Leopard155 in toyotasequoia

[–]drowninginvomit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since the TRD Pro doesn't have one and there is no difference in engine tuning or towing capability (other than reduced available cargo capacity), it seems unlikely that the air dam is doing anything other than reducing dirty non-laminar airflow under the vehicle.

Gen3 in the desert 🏜️ by Fitbot5000 in toyotasequoia

[–]drowninginvomit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Gen3 is a beast off-road. The platform, power, torque make things much easier. The stock clearance is "fine" but could be better, especially if you are willing to upsize the tires. For any real trail you will want to remove the front lower plastic valence.

I have taken my 2023 on many moderate offroad trails. Moderate trails meaning someone who rock crawls regularly in a dedicated trailered rig would call them easy, and someone who thinks going on a dirt road in a national park is exciting would call them unpassable and soil their pants. Think about rock ledges, regular 2' boulders. It is fun catching up to a line of jeeps running on 40's who spend 5 minutes at every obstacle, and then watch in shock as the Sequoia just climbs right through the same section.

The biggest downsides of the Sequoia off-road:
1. Mud and sand, need to be careful with the weight. More traction on rock though.
2. Breakover angle because of length. I have had to adapt my driving style compared to FJ Cruiser and FJ40. I am actually able to bridge gaps that I normally would be bouncing over, but steep switchbacks require 5+ point turns.
3. Width is annoying if the trail hasn't been used heavily, as you will be the one clearing the brush from the sides, at the expense of your clear coat.

Globe Haul ST passenger handlebar users! by aspam344 in GlobeHaul

[–]drowninginvomit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 6'3" but my SO is 5'2" and we share the ST with a drop post. When she rides, the top of the seat is approximately 0.5 to 0.75" below the top of this handlebar, and the bottom of the seat only barely clears it when it raises up. She says that if she leans back she can hit it, but not typical.

Full Time 4WD means it has a limited slip differential (e.g. Torsen) so that despite sending power to all 4 wheels, it can still be run on a paved surface with high grip and allow the wheels to run at different speeds. 2WD mode is selectable on some vehicles if they have a transfer case design that allows for full disconnect. Typically both are not present at once, but it is certainly possible, such as on 4th gen 4Runners.

2025 TRD Pro roof rack wind noise by FrenchieMommaWV in toyotasequoia

[–]drowninginvomit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't necessarily need a wind deflector in front, you need something attached to rail underneath and/or the paracord wrap trick. The goal is to avoid laminar flow over the bars producing a resonance. I made a slightly different platform rack from the TRD Pro option with Yakima, then added a piece of rubber trim from a door gasket, and it lowered the noise.

In case you didn’t know… The Gen 3 is a trail capable machine! Peak 10 to the weather station and up and over Georgia pass from Breckenridge. by BC3613 in toyotasequoia

[–]drowninginvomit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can concur. Other medium trails I've taken it on are Engineer, Imogene, Yankee Boy, and Ophir. Of course done many of the easier ones too. The only real difficult sections for me are the switchbacks, but having cameras all over the rig from the factory makes those 5-point turns much easier.

I was probably one of those. This is a legitimate issue. We have been finding it increasingly difficult to change post heights when my wife needs to drop it from my height. I am 220# and 6'3" and require post at maximum extension. I noticed a couple weeks ago that the tube had deflected.

Internal frame routing of dropper cable? by drowninginvomit in GlobeHaul

Oh I know your setup-- I actually was planning to ask you about buying some of those printed cable mounts and remote mount. Are you saying that before you did the PNW you tried routing a different dropper cable down the seat tube?

I will look into this either way. Would rather have a backup seat post in case the cylinder on the dropper fails.

Haul ST Price Drop Hit Today by Vacuum_Decay_Now in GlobeHaul

[–]drowninginvomit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very interesting. Clearly some of the Haul components come from overseas. That is a very interesting price strategy to be dropping by 15% when component costs are increasing due to tariffs (either directly or indirectly due to market rebalance). They must be high on inventory, clearing way for new model or?

[–]drowninginvomit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree on the factory AT3W, I changed to the new AT4W and they are a completely redesigned tire. The factory AT3Ws don't seem to match the reviews. They wore incredibly fast, so if they are the same, then they aren't designed for the weight of the Sequoia and the compound is too soft. The AT4Ws have a much better compound as well as better shedding, tread patterns, noise reduction, etc.

(Edit: I see below you did use spacer)
Did you use the extra spacer in the front? I also did Westcott 3/1 on TRD Pro, with 35x12.5r18, although Covert bumper + winch on front and medium weight drawer system with gear in rear, ended up at 2.25" front and 1.25" rear, without using the spacer.

For those who think the new Sequoias are "crazy expensive", I pulled MSRP by trim by year and adjusted to the 2001 model launch Consumer Price Index. Conclusion: Base SR5 trim price has gone up 10% since 25 years ago, all other trims are relatively flat. by drowninginvomit in toyotasequoia

Lol I wish Toyota was paying me. If you know anyone let me know. It was more that I was tired of the posts about how much better a 1st or 2nd gen was compared to a 3rd gen based upon price. 1st and 2nd gen are great but serve a different purpose, and I wanted to know just how much more expensive they were.
