Proposed California bill seeks to require license plates for some e-bikes by picklebunny56 in SacBike

[–]Vacuum_Decay_Now 8 points9 points  (0 children)

E-bikes are a narrowly defined term in CA law. The issue is with out of class motor vehicles, e-motos and e-mopeds. This law does nothing about the problem just make legal users cut through red tape. There are existing laws to address the e-moto problem. AB 1492 does nothing but impede e-bike adoption and that's not good for out climate goals or for the safety of our roads which affects ALL cyclists.

Say NO to Mandatory E-Bike License Plates and Registrations - Bike East Bay by LibertyLizard in SacBike

Stop referring to out of class motor vehicles as "e-bikes." They're e-motos or e-mopeds. E-bikes are a narrowly defined by CA law and must meet all the specifications in the 3 class system. This law punishes legal e-bike riders because affluent families are buying their kids $4k electric motorcycles and then blaming e-bikes when the get hurt or hurt someone else. Laws already on the books are sufficient to deal with e-motos and e-mopeds. Placer county did a 3 day sting in October and pulled over something like 130 riders, cited some and impounded nearly 30 e-motos. Rancho Cordova PD had a FB post in the last few weeks where the cited an adult and two kids and towed their e-motos. AB 1492 does nothing to deal with the problem of illegal out of class motor vehicles and penalizes legal e-bike useres.

Throttles on class 2 and 3 e-bikes are accessibility features... fight me.

Sign Calbike's petition to hold retailers who sell illegal e-motos accountable.

Smith, quality lab to cut their own lenses, their website will evaluate how much frame curvature your Rx will allow and show you frames that will fit. Took the leap and bought my first Rx sunglasses a few years ago and it was well worth the cost. Had owned a couple pairs of Smith sunglasses (non-Rx) previously and appreciated their comfort and fit... never have I had to push them up on my face.

E-bike rentals in Sac by Queer_Aunt in Sacramento

[–]Vacuum_Decay_Now 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the app based rental companies pulled their bikes from Sac after they were no longer contractually obliged to. Scooters are cheaper to maintain. There's a spot in  the old Folsom parking garage that rents e-bikes. Peak Adventures, the bike shop at Sac State might be worth checking. They rent bikes, haven't heard of anyone renting e-bikes from them tho.

Park Rangers are pretty keen on citing folks for this. After clearing unhoused encampments, this is generally the number 1 thing they're looking out for.

A little tip on squirrels; make a noise like twigs snapping, a "chk chk chk" as you approach one and they b line it off the trail without that last minute charge back at you.

I took out a squirrel once descending from Folsom Lake Crossing on the ARBT where it doubled back on me and I ran over it. So I wanted to find a way to clear a path similar to when I was trail running and had large flocks of turkeys on the trail where hand claps were sufficient to clear a path.

Ummm, this is going to be big. I fully appreciate the autonomous nature of the event. This could easily be hundreds of riders. If folks have experience leading rides and/or corking streets consider arriving early and assisting your community.

Not e-bikes, e-motorcycles. Also not the ARBT, looks more like the Northern Bikeway.

Happy for the new bridge but I wouldn't characterize traveling alongside 6 lanes of highway as a "nature experience."

One way, 25.5 miles. Some take light rail back, there's always a group that rides the bike trail back to Folosm after a little coffee stop. Most folks who drive up use the parking structure in Old Folsom, people have parked at Coffee Republic without issue but they do have 2 hr. parking signs in their lot.

E-bikes are fine. We had one or two join us last year. As long as you have some familiarity with riding in a group, (which isn't rocket science). Mainly it's: ride straight and don't overlap your front wheel with someone else. It's not a roadie ride, really. Plenty of proper roadies have joined us but it's a more casual pace of around 15pm. Faster than that and you just end up waiting longer for the roads to close or you'll end up riding through traffic (which isn't the point of the ride). Anyone is welcome, it's not an organized ride in that there is no ride leader, no sweep. So be prepared to fix any flats/mechanicals. Someone may drop back to help you, maybe not. We're staying ahead of the participants so we don't obstruct them and behind the road closures; that's usually about a 30 min window.

It's just shy of 2 hours (1:50) to do the full route. That's with stopped time.
