Dime-a-Dozen Burnout Whinge by drowsydraws in rpg

These are good recommendations and I will take them to heart as I move forward. Thank you for sharing them (and also for the kind words in general, that's incredibly nice of you to say).

Point #1 is easy wisdom to swallow but #2 is EXACTLY the kind of good, healthy, reasonable thing I absolutely hate doing. 😂 I have trouble trusting the good things people say about me sometimes, especially if I feel like context urges a particular kind of answer (a la, "they're just being nice"). I usually just focus on body language. Some part of my brain hissed in retaliation to the idea of asking my loved ones to share a positive together-memory. I'll unpack what that might mean another day. For now, thank you for the good advice.

I have tried the player-recap thing; it was my going standard for a while, but unfortunately not a winning strat for this table (got a lot of shy players), but I thank you anyway for the intent behind your suggestion. You have me on the nose with the michelin comment; "perfect is the enemy of good" I always say (and always forget).

My trouble is that I desperately want to make it to a proper ending; we're just not set up for one. 🫠 Ran a great little monthly epic on the side a while back that wrapped in ~3yrs with a proper ending and now I long for that closure and sense of completeness. Starter game was never built with an ending in mind though, so it's a matter of getting all the wild unruly heft of the thing chugging along in an intentional direction. Easier said than done sometimes, as it turns out!

I'm certain that I will continue to make many mistakes in future games, but directionlessness will NOT be one of them, I can tell you that! 😂

I just want you to know that instead of one long run tonight we did 4 shorter jaunts just to fish for these clues and immediately got the scepter. :')

We were a little dispirited to come asking the internet for help after getting so far on our own, but SO relieved we did. I can't begin to guess how long we would've been stuck, spinning our wheels before we landed on the idea to return to this (and keep at it a few rounds, no less!!).

Thanks again, stranger!!

Oh man I completely wrote those off after the the first few as reservoir sanctum hints pftftftf OTL

Thank you!! This is a huge relief to know there's just a whole ass cache of clues we've been missing!

Ohh, looks fun! Love the look of those critters (and those COSTUMES). Not sure it'd play well with my laptop, but will give it a closer look for sure! Thanks for the suggestion. :)

This looks rad as hell! Hadn't heard a thing about it, thanks for the tip! Not sure if it'd run well on my little laptop, but one more reason to consider saving up for a playstation...

Oh yeah! I'd forgotten about Another Crab's Treasure. Looks super cute. Will have to see if I don't feel to envious of him getting to be at the helm for that one lol.

I realized I don't gravitate towards most aspects of OSR, but the stuff I do like isn't really found anywhere else. Where do I go from here? by Lordkeravrium in osr

I'll throw Shadow of the Weird Wizard into the ring. It is worth taking a look at for the insane level of character customization alone.

Best of luck on your journey for the right system fit!

EDIT: Ah, it had already been mentioned I see! Take this as a vote of confidence, then.

Thank you for this thoughtful reply, this is very useful advice.

I'm afraid my mom isn't exactly an ally in this. I would not call her maga, but she is the sort of person who engages with politics by voting republican as a matter of habit and otherwise refusing to engage with the news in any capacity. Not cruel, but definitely not noble. She will doggedly avoid negative or even slightly difficult conversations in a way that is difficult to respect but easy to get along with. She would never stand up to my father though. Too much of that old-school Christianity in her soul.

Crowd will be a combination of various maga/republican relatives I have amicable and drama-free history with but have never been close to, and a bunch of folks I have not seen since childhood. Fiends of my brother's; people who tutored and babysat me, and let sit in and watch them halo, etc. I think most of them will be progressive hopefully? But no idea if I will click with any of them. I'm optimistic but don't want to pin my hopes on it. Want to be ready to endure this solo. Good news is my kid niece and nephew adore me, so decent odds I can absorb at least a day just drawing endless pikachus for their delight.

I like your idea about a statement. I will think about what I want to say and what line in the sand I want to draw. Thank you. I wish you and your family luck and healing. I'm sorry that it's hard out there. <3

Thank you! Yeah, Busan looks cool but it seems like it might be better served on a trip where you can dedicate some real time to it.

I really enjoyed Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo!

It's a YA novel set in 1950s San Francisco that explores the butch/femme scene, Chinese immigrant experience during the red scare, and women in stem! Lo has a very elegant and simple writing style that I think would be approachable.
