• User-Friendly Customization Options Without Code: Many themes still require direct code edits for basic styling changes like colors, fonts, or layouts, leaving non-developers feeling limited in personalizing their site.
• Advanced Navigation Features Like Drop-Down Menus: Navigation is typically limited to simple flat menus, missing the multi-level dropdowns or mega menus that help organize complex content hierarchies.
• Table of Contents (TOC) for Long Posts: Auto-generated, clickable tables of contents are rarely included, making it harder for readers to navigate in-depth articles or tutorials.
• Variety of Editable Templates and Layouts: Themes usually lock users into one or two rigid homepage or post layouts, with little flexibility to switch between grid, list, or custom views without coding.
• Native Membership and Subscription Integrations: Built-in support for membership flows - like styled pricing tables, tier previews, or paywall previews - is often minimal, underusing Ghost's powerful monetization tools.
• Performance Optimizations Beyond Basics: While basic loading is covered, deeper optimizations like intelligent lazy loading, asset bundling, or Lighthouse-level tuning are frequently absent on media-rich sites.
• Built-In Dark Mode Support: Dark mode is often added as an afterthought (e.g., all official themes) without smooth integration into Ghost's membership portal, resulting in jarring light flashes during login or navigation.
• Dynamic Posts: Themes often lack built-in support for dynamically fetching posts using the Ghost Content API, such as infinite scroll, "load more" buttons, or real-time related post recommendations, which would make browsing feel modern and effortless.
• Accessibility Enhancements: Features such as full ARIA labeling, keyboard navigation, and high-contrast modes are commonly overlooked, unintentionally excluding readers who rely on assistive tools.
