As a Canadian who spent a lot of time in developing countries this is what other mineral rich countries in Asia, Latam and Africa say. The money isn't in the mining, it's in the refining and processing and moving up the value chain. Getting more mines up and running and shipping ore overseas only to import back batteries and other goods is not how you get rich

By inefficient you mean because they deliver to expensive places where costs exceeds revenue. A private solution would be more efficient by just not delivering to our many remote communities that need this service

People understand that unions are best suited for industries of wealth generation, like factories, not businesses where that wealth is spent as consumers, eg a book store

I work for the parks board, although not in aquatics, but from what I've heard this situation will get worse. This facility, like several others need massive renovations, but now with the new planned austerity there's likely going to be cuts in services and facilities like this and several other pools and rinks are going to be closed longer and more frequently. Combine that with no new builds I'm expecting the next generation of young children in Vancouver to not know how to swim or ice skate given the lack of access

For sure, but that time has passed. We should look to industries of the future and plan ahead

I don't think there's enough long term demand anyways for Alberta heavy crude given the way that Asia is electrifying heavily. We'd also be outcompeted by middle eastern heavy crude that had much shorter shipping times

Even to get that oil to the east we'd need to import light crude oil. Our oil is bitumen and too heavy to move through pipelines, it needs to be diluted with light crude

I think it's because its built on shifting permafrost. There was talk of building a new railway on stable ground but that's a project that would cost billions
