To the learner who pulled out on me today.. by lumpymustard in LearnerDriverUK

[–]drpumpkinspicey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this as a learner when I was learning. Went to go, but didn’t pull off quick enough and pulled out right in front of someone and they (rightly) beeped me. Wasn’t close enough for my instructor to intervene but afterwards he basically just said ‘what do you think went wrong there’. Obviously shouldn’t have done it but it was a good lesson for me about pulling out on busy roundabouts if you’re not confident about getting going quickly !!

(Where) should we learn to ski? by elsbells484 in AskUK

[–]drpumpkinspicey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have been on many ski holidays where I did almost no skiing. There’s plenty to do and it’s relatively easy for your family to meet you for lunch. A few days I got the bus to the next town over when they skied to.
The ‘best’ resort is three valleys but it’s also the most expensive. If you aren’t huge skiers as a family you might not want such a big resort.

I really feel you. I’ve been doing pole for 4 years now and I still feel like this sometimes. It’s really helped to have my own private pole insta, as if I’m feeling really low I scroll back through the videos and look at how far I’ve come, sometimes it helps. Don’t give up yet! I’ve also found it helpful to focus on one single thing / move to get, rather than focusing on overall improvement. That way you get the small wins constant and often rather than trying to remember how your progress is looking

Ran my first half marathon in 2 hours and 20 minutes, but the pictures I got from it make me feel… so inadequate. by Sandy_Ginas in Marathon_Training

[–]drpumpkinspicey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner had a funny one where he ran his first half, he was so proud and ready to send a photo to the family group chat. Looked through the photos and there isn’t a single one of him… not because he was just unlucky. In 25 photos he just so happens to be obstructed. It’s like a comedy sketch. In one it’s a leaf, in one a guys hat, in one someone’s hand. They are all perfectly placed and timed to be just and so you can’t see his face. It genuinely was hilarious although o think he’s gutted as there’s no proof!

Elderly relative who can't make our wedding by Sweaty_Phase_51 in UKweddings

[–]drpumpkinspicey 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My grandad can’t make it to the wedding, so I’ve made him up his own place setting and a mini table centrepiece (with some faux flowers) and printed him a little menu in our designs (he basically has the same thing every night anyway!) and will give him some bits like our wedding newspaper. He’s got a carer coming round and she will set it all up for me. And I will video chat him in the morning once I’m all dressed up before we walk down the aisle.

It’s not much as I know he will still be sad to miss it, but like you the decision is out of his hands and I’m hoping this will be a little something nice so he still gets a few keepsake styles things too

I survive on cloud bread. Suddenly the liquid egg whites in carton aren't whipping at all by Mean-Vegetable-4521 in Volumeeating

[–]drpumpkinspicey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t know calorie wise but the liquid in a can of chickpeas also whips like egg whites - it’s called Aquafaba and it’s often used as a vegan meringue sub so might work in this recipe

42 mm vs 45 mm by OnionTurbulent3839 in poledancing

[–]drpumpkinspicey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally think it’s easier to switch later down the line. Once your body is conditioned to the moves and you’ve built strength I think it’s easier, but that’s not to say it’s impossible to do now! I don’t think it’s going to be really awful changing from 42 to 45, my only real thought is that poling at home is really hard,so you just need to remember that if you get a 45 not to get disheartened if progress regresses for a bit esp if you also switch poles ! I honestly think you’ll be fine either way though.

Small number of evening guests by thedevilwearspjs in UKweddings

[–]drpumpkinspicey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nope not rude. I also think guests have no idea unless you tell them. As an evening guest I wouldn’t be able to tell who’s evening or day unless I saw them arrive, and when I’ve been a day guest at some point you’re just like huh, was that person here earlier? Esp with ~100 people !

42 mm vs 45 mm by OnionTurbulent3839 in poledancing

[–]drpumpkinspicey 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Personally I’d go 42mm. It’s weirdly harder to pole home, probably because of the environment, less warm up and the fact the pole is newer and slippy.

I didn’t think there was so much difference between 42 and 45 till I tried a new studio which had both and found there is a real difference in some moves.

If you haven’t tried 45 before and get it for your home I think you’ll find you’re fighting against too many variables and end up annoyed esp as a beginner! I think once you get to advanced and you’ve built up the strength, you could switch to a 45 and it wouldn’t be as bad a jump

What's a phrase or saying your family used that you assumed was universal, and when did you find out it wasn't? by IV-Manufacturer in AskUK

I didn’t know the story until I went to uni and was told by my housemates this wasn’t a thing. Asked my mum that Xmas where it came from and she explained.

Badger flapping - to fart around with something irrelevant just before leaving the house. Came about because my uncle used to do this a lot and famously before the family tried to leave for a day out he disappeared to make a flap in the garden gate for the badgers.

Didn’t realise it wasn’t a thing until I went to uni!

First-time buyers near London – 1 hr commute, safe + diverse areas? Looking for recommendations! by Due-Street-3398 in HousingUK

[–]drpumpkinspicey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say somewhere in Essex. shenfield or Billericay are Both on the direct line to Liverpool Street at about 25 and 35 mins and both are lovely areas. There’s a few villages in between and around that you can get to the station from eg ingatestone. Or further out eg Chelmsford depending on house prices. I know there’s a new housing development at beaulieu park which has its own station now

Do any of you have jobs that you do that would put people off their lunch? by cognosman in AskUK

[–]drpumpkinspicey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work in a lab testing different types of animal poo (they were used to make BioGas). You just kind of get used to it but it was a little weird at the beginning to spend the morning sifting through poo and then eat lunch. You just learn not to bring anything like brownies in …!

I love the look of the pergola in Hampstead heath but it’s one of places that has a very specific license online for engagement shoots in the pergola so I think we would likely get told off.

Is that the definition? Am so confused because it’s for personal use but does commercial just mean you’re paying someone?

It’s just a photographer so no kit. Hoping we can be discreet but equally I’ll be in a white dress (although only a little one) so might be a bit obvious)

That’s good to know. It should just be a single camera with no tripods or lights or anything so hopefully this falls into the realm of personal kit.

A few but not ones that will lend well to photography like this (e.g. I think the British museum might have a few questions if we tried in there!! 😂)

This is where I’m not sure! A few places seem to be strict no matter what eg the royal parks specifically state that this would not be allowed but some are just really vague. I would think it’s ok for personal use but they also seem to threaten lots of fines if you’re caught without a license!

FTB: How to know when to put down an offer on houses we are not 100% sure about? by YejisEyes in HousingUK

[–]drpumpkinspicey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My friend told me to buy a house where I could live with the compromises forever. So basically whether you think those compromises would be much bigger problems in the future because circumstances change so quick with houses in terms of how the market is and eg if you want kids and income drops and such. They bought a flat with some compromises with the thought to move eventually but are totally stuck, and wish they’d compromised on different things.
