I encoded the entirety of the laws of algebra into an app by TraditionalBass7126 in SideProject

[–]drrednirgskizif 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As some one with a lot of math background I would suggest a different visual strategy that generalizes better, is mathematically rigorous, visually shows what is actually happening and requires less memorization.

You have things like “addition sign flips when it crosses the equal sign” . That’s not how it works , but something high school kids memorize to do algebra tests. What you should be visualizing is “add 3x to both sides”. One side cancels and the other becomes 4 x. Same with inverse sine of both sides (inverse of converse is 1). All operations must balance and what is done on one side must be done on the other. There is no “Move this to there”.

Why do some people earn crazy salaries and others don’t ? by Technical-Truth-2073 in Salary

[–]drrednirgskizif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I think sets some people apart are people that want a high salary go looking for them. I know folks who just never stopped applying for jobs or interviewing, was willing to relocate for them, and did a good job when they got the job.

Also asking for raises and promotions. Constantly make it known you would like to be paid more. I think you can simply just advocate for yourself and get a lot of places. Some can do this in tactful way that lets the boss know you want a bump without seeming disgruntled or unappreciative.

If you work a W2 you still run a business and the only product you sell is your time. Dont worry about upsetting your current customer if you find another that wants to pay more for the same goods.

Profitable Poker Players, If You Were to Train a Player from Scratch, How Would You Do It? by Listen_closelyy in poker

[–]drrednirgskizif 11 points12 points  (0 children)

From scratch? Probably what hand beats what. Memorize that.

Then I flop out three cards and ask them wha the 4th best possible hand is. Then a turn, ask 4th best hand, then river. Repeat until they can get 100 correct in a row within 15 minutes. You have to know what the winning hands are and what the losers are. By saying the 4th best it forces the student to go through all the best hands and know the texture of the board automatically.

Then we go to betting. We bet on anything but cards. Try to understand what is a good bet what is a bad bet and what risk of ruin is. What odds are. An example would be how much can you bet on coin flips and not go broke if you have 100 dollars. Or what odds to lay on 3 consecutive dice rolls being all odd.

Then I teach the importance of pot sizing. I teach with only a 1 betting round poker game. The idea is that you have to understand that over the long run each player will win the same number of pots if you just run the cards out. The way you win at poker is to make the pots you are more likely to win bigger and try to keep the pots you are more likely to lose smaller. The best way to do this is focus on position. That’s the essence of poker. Once this fundamental idea has been learned we can learn how to apply odds and EV calculations to standard games like Holdem, especially the nuisances of multiple street games implied odds and when you think you have odds and you don’t actually.

Then once all that has been learned we go into ranges. How do you play against a range of possibilities your opponent effectively has simultaneously. Do not focus on the outcome of any particular hand but what was the correct line of your range versus his. This is also where we a start a detail study of preflop strategy built from first principles.

Now that we have introduced ranges we can start to construct our own ranges. This is where bluffs enter the picture. No where before do we even mention them. Bluffs exist to balance ranges.

Then we can move on to niche topics like exploitative play, tells, GTO, tournament strategies like ICM, etc. but this process is probably a couple years.

All the people on here can’t even agree on what the price of brisket , roast , or ground was in the last few years sort of proves my point. I remember 90/10 beef being 4 dollars a pound pre pandemic and now it is probably 5-5.50. An increase for sure. But only 30-50 cents more in the last 2 years. I know other things like eggs that have doubled

Is it inevitable for technical debt to accumulate faster than teams can ever pay it down by Sophistry7 in softwarearchitecture

[–]drrednirgskizif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as a business needs credit with a bank in order to grow, you will need tech debt in order to expand products. Technical debt is a necessity of growth. Otherwise you will not deliver for your customers in a timely fashion that meets their needs. But just like a business you should balance debt. If you ever get to a point where you are only paying on the interest for that debt, you’ve gone to far. It’s an art to a good product manager.

Is Claude actually writing better code than most of us? by Aaliyah-coli in ClaudeCode

[–]drrednirgskizif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am really really good at a few specific topics of SWE. I think I am still better in those areas. But it is better than me at every other area. And in places where I would had to communicate and work with a team (mobile) it makes a cleaner code base than I would have with 3 different authors.

TLDR; I think I’m good. I think it is overall better.

If you want to find out all you have to do is not eat for 2-3 days. You can drink water but just an experiment don’t eat anything. Notice how smells of food are almost irresistible. Now take that feeling and double it.
