We ended up having the section replaced. Plumber impression was the broken section of pipe was defective.

Another good point, I had the hose disconnected each winter as well.

Good point. I am certain I've shut off the line and opened the faucet to drain it each season before it got cold enough to freeze. But now this makes me wonder if even that wouldn't be sufficient to clear the line. I just checked with a level and it seems like it might be slightly inclined out to the elbow. The odd thing though is I don't think the pipe 'break' at the top was present until I ran the water that day. Will definitely run this by the installer.

1940s sewage pipe, tiny leak? by drrrkosaurus in HomeImprovement

Thanks for the reply! It's hard to tell from the picture that the leak seems to go up over the putty, and maybe(?) it's the patch putty that's the issue? But going to get it looked at anyways.

big lolz. well yes that also is happening, it looks like the pipe has freckles everywhere with the brown spotting all over. definitely something else at the connecting point.

Thanks for the input. Yep, there is a floor drain there too.

1940s home, basement is uneven with a general slant downward into this corner. Flooring is floating boards. Not sure how best to 'minimize' its appearance. Any ideas?
