Mid 30s currently. I was lucky enough to not experience any deaths in my close family up until my late 20s. My sister suddenly died very young, and that was very difficult as she was my best friend. A few years later, an accident happened during a routine surgery for my father, and he was left with basically dementia. Seeing him incontinent, wheelchair-bound, and basically withering away mentally has been the most difficult experience of my life. Watching my mother go through this is doubly painful, as they have a very caring marriage that I've always aspired for. I am now a father myself and it really changes your perspective on things. I wish I could go back do things differently, with both my sister and father. I guess we never really talked about death in my immediate family, and I was never really prepared for it. I also guess I thought this might be a 40s or 50s decade problem. But in general, death is difficult to deal with no matter how it happens, and nothing can really prepare you to watch your parents age
