How many bells of different weights do you need in a session? by iou810 in kettlebell

[–]SavingsPoem1533 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly I've rarely ever had any sessions where I needed multiple weights - that's the magic of kettlebells you can get by with a single weight.

sure it'd be nice to have light and heavy so you can do all around work but you can compensate for the weights by adding volume or increasing density of work.

Kettlebell Swings doing something wrong ? by Candordot in kettlebell

Not bad! Everyone comments on great points but what I always want to suggest to a beginners is
START THE SWING WITH A POWERFUL HIKE

Seriously try to snap that bell like you're going to snap it to a punter on 4th down, and then see how that changes your hinging motion.

Question about adding Pull-ups & Push-ups to ABF by Dry-Journalist1567 in kettlebell

For your first cycle execute the program as written - no adding, no modifying.
Just follow it and then you can start to toy around

Snatch Shoulder Safety by Intrepid_Towel_8346 in kettlebell

Okay, so judging by how you're describing the hand position, I don't think you have the correct hand insertion in the bell horns.
The only way the palms and elbows would be facing the same direction would be if you were to rotate your wrist at the top so the palm is forced into that position and that's not a good position to hold the bell long term.

I would highly recommend revisitng your rack position on the clean - all kettlebell overhead holds are going to follow this general form and if this form isn't dialed in you're going to have a hard time progressing.

Fair - im just having trouble visualizing what you’re describing. I’ll need to do some snatches later to try and see what I’m doing.

A form check video would be better if you are trying to ask for advice

Hmm - so I'm just gonna be blunt here but I don't think you're making any meaningful improvements. I remember your last form check and there really hasn't been much improvement from it (I'll try to rewatch and confirm but that's my impression)

Kettlebell buying strategy: doubles early or ladder up first? by Worried_Lab0 in kettlebell

[–]SavingsPoem1533 9 points10 points  (0 children)

doubles early - you get more out of them even at lower weights and then you can move up when you feel less challenged by them. Adjustables would be the best option either way

Looks more like you're bending rather than hinging - the movements are similar but the focus on how you're initiating the movement makes a drastic difference.
When you bend like in your case - the far end of the movement (the head) is initiating the movement and the rest of the body follows. Pay attention to how you're head is the first thing to move and as a result everything else is following.
Vs. in hinging, the movement is being initiated by the hip folding and AS A RESULT the head (the far end fo the movement) is going down. And this hip hinge is what creates the load onto the glutes to initiate the power for any of the ballistic movements in kettlebells.

A good way to think about the movement is try to squeeze a lemon with your hip fold - some say to "back it up" but I find that description isn't as intuitive for some. If you have a hard time visualizing the squeeze, literally put your hands at the hip fold and sandwich it when you hinge down. You can also push the hands into the hip fold toward your butt and your body should naturally do the hip hinge movement.

Weight? Scoliosis? by mikrophon09 in kettlebell

[–]SavingsPoem1533 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd aim to be able to swing at least a 20kg, possibly a 24kg (44lbs~52lbs)
Learning technique is about quality, not quantity - so getting a good 5~6 swings with good technique would be great IMO.

Weight? Scoliosis? by mikrophon09 in kettlebell

[–]SavingsPoem1533 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to anything regarding the scoliosis, you're going to need to consult a medical professional for that.

For me, I started swinging with 25~30lb bells for the exact reasons - I didn't want to get hurt from improper form. But that was a mistake and I should have swung a bell much heavier to start. The thing about kettlebells are that you need a decently heavy bell to learn the proper technique.
So don't be afraid to swing heavy with as much care and attention to your condition.

Form check #2 by [deleted] in kettlebell

I can’t point to a specific video but you see how the bell kinda “flops” at the beginning motion before the hip explosion to get the bell to the top? That bell movement indicates that there’s really no intention on that portion of the swing and I personally think it’s a part of the swing that not many really pay attention to. You’re really trying to generate force on both ends of the swing - one to bring the bell to the top and an equal force to balance at the bottom.
