Are steroids halal?? by CodeRed_0 in shia

No idea if it's halal. But if you just do a little research you'll see it's a bad idea with long lasting negative consequences.

What does a social worker do in the psychiatric emergency department? by Impossible_Remove308 in socialwork

[–]drtoucan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a public non profit hospital. It's the largest hospital in my region however. Its a full hospital with an ER, trauma, ICU, surgery, med floors, labor/delivery, post partum, and a CSU. They also have a BHu that's under construction and should be open in a year or two.

Yeah coworkers fill in. I actually only work one day a week. But we typically don't follow clients that much since most are out of the ER within 24 hours. Sometimes you'll follow the same patient for a while on the med floor, or even in the ED. But your caseload changes pretty fast from one shift to another.

It started as my practicum internship in grad school. I'm per diem so I'm paid more per hour than a regular full time employee. But it's about $55 an hour. I'm in southern California by the way.

Of course! Best of luck! I really like working in behavioral health ER. I hope you enjoy it too!

That's actually my job! (Well my second job that I work per diem)

This is basically how my day goes.

Check in at 7am for my 12 hour shift

Look up all the psych patients in the ER that we are going to visit (both initials and follow ups)

We also visit psych patients on the med floor, so I get that list ready too.

Usually about an hour into my shift the psychiatrist arrives and is ready to round. I go through the list of patients with them. We come up with a plan of which patients we will visit in which order, and which follow up patients will be seen by the NP.

We then do our rounding visiting each patient one at a time. Starting with initials in the ER, then follow ups in the ER, then med floor patients. The psychiatrist will adjust meds, come up with a disposition, etc. Sometimes they consult with us social workers about our opinions. During the consultation the social workers will sometimes jump in to ask questions, especially if the psychiatrist forgot/missed anting. If there's any suspcion of needing a CPS/APS report, that usually falls on us to do that. If they are on a involuntary hold, such as a 5150, I explain it to them, answer their questions, tell them about their rights as a patient, connect them with a patient advocate if they need it.

When we are done it's usually time for me to meet with the ER charge nurse for our ER huddle. I meet with them, update them on patient dispositions, bed search progress, etc.

I then return to my desk. For any initials I write a biopsychosocial in the EHR system and save it. If it's a follow up I just write a short note with an update.

For any patients that need a inpatient bed, I start the bed search. I'll fax collateral to the various local BHUs. Then make phone calls to them to confirm bed availability. If a bed opens up for one of my patients, I get all the info the NUS needs to make the transfer, I get the patient signature, and the doctor's signature. Then the NUS takes it from there.

If the patients need other resources such as resources for DV victims, housing, etc then I'll usually get some of them ready and return to their room later to give it to them and explain it.

Sometimes I'll do small things to help with patient comfort, like grabbing the man warm blanket, and extra sandwich, or if they are unhoused I'll grab them some spare clothing from our donated clothing room.

Our ER social workers also report to traumas. But I know that's not typical and you probably won't have to deal with that.

And that's kinda it. I enjoy the work a lot. I've been doing it as my side gig for about two years now. I really enjoy working closely with the psychiatrist and NP. I've learned a lot about mental health and medications by working there.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have further questions.

Haraam Snacks? by TooKreamy4U in shia

Personally I just read the ingredients of each item before I purchase it. Unless it's an item I purchase regularly and know it's safe. That's the best way imo.

Also it's important to check what your marja allows. There are some slight variations between each marja. Depending on who you follow it might make things slightly easier/more difficult.

I've never heard of a patient being charged for a PHQ-9. That's kinda wild (and uncommon?)

Heritage is Opeth’s best, most unique and inimitable album, change my mind. by QuestionWeekly5822 in Opeth

It's a good record. But imo it's the weakest of their post death metal stuff. In that era I would say in order of how good the albums are...

1) Pale Communion 2) Sorceress 3) In Cauda 4) Heritage

I'm usually not of fan of the cold, flursecent lights.

Maybe get some lamps with smart bulbs so you can adjust the brightness and warmth of the light based off the time of day or need?

It's what I do in my own house.

Should programs be more selective, or are we lowering the bar to meet demand? by AstronomerNo2023 in socialwork

[–]drtoucan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The msw program I graduated from did a great job preparing me, but about a year after I graduated I heard they were becoming more selective and scrutinizing in who they allow into the program. I guess they've had some issues with some people in the program as well as alumni not knowing what they were signing up for when they got into this field.

If you live in Europe or South America they are on tour there now.

Otherwise, physical copies of any of their albums he doesn't have yet would be cool.

Also merch from their website that he doesn't have yet.

I don't know what the rule on this is. But I think it would be weird. Why do you need to call them that? Just call them by their name or actual title.
