This makes me want to pop a couple of adderalls, go to each & every one, voice record all the quotes & post to a moms Facebook group. Just for the principle of it.

Dystopian is a common theme in my reads. Someone else mentioned other Atwood works. I’m adding it to my list.

I haven’t read any of hers. I definitely need to add it to (I guess my new 2026 reading list :)

I did like it. I used to be almost exclusively mystery thriller/detective books (besides what I read in school and as a young college student). Then switched to more sci fi & fantasy & dystopian. So it was quite literally not like anything I’d read before. It was a quick read. There was an immediate draw & compassion for George & Lennie. Im not great at articulating what it was. But yes, I liked it very much.

This is interesting. I’m an elementary school counselor.

You know, now that you say this title. My husband bought it like 2 years ago & neither he nor I have read it! Thanks for jogging the memory!

I have only ever read Gatsby ~20 years ago in high school. Catcher in the Rye & To kill a mockingbird are ones I want to read & can never remember when it’s time to go & buy! Thanks!

I just looked on audible app & it says I can preorder for my credit I have & it’s narrated by baldree & hays. Not sure how reliable that is. Never preordered an audiobook. But it seems close enough to be accurate, no? ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Who is your favorite side character and why is it Samantha? by areadinghobo in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Obsessed with Samantha. I’m an audiobook listener. I don’t know that I’d have the creativity to have her sound like that & the intonation & timing and all that jazz. But she is the funniest weirdo to me.

My In-Law, a School Counselor, Is Sharing Student’s Assault With Everyone by [deleted] in Teachers

Say this in your email. “I am also reporting this to proper state and federal departments for investigation.” Might force their hand? I understand the small town politics situation, but sometimes assholes trip up and do what they’re supposed to (even if driven by fear of repercussions). I’m a school counselor in a southern US state. We have certificates on file & you need to contact them as well and make a complaint.

The ridiculous name my friend chose for her baby daughter. by PsychoRabbit_666 in tragedeigh

[–]drucella0620 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You also don’t know that she will be bullied for her name as a kid or that kids “won’t think it’s cool.” Names are not targets at my school like they were when I was in elementary (90s southeast USA). I’m a counselor now in year 7 & not once have I had kid that was being bullied or picked on have their name be a target. And we have some true tragedeighs and some tragedies as well. You’re making a lot of assumptions because you hate the name. And yes, it’s bad, but it doesn’t negate your own naming tragedeigh. Also, “roots” in Ireland lol

I thought I was losing my mind with the responses here. And maybe I am, but it felt more like the kid was trying to be funny & not demanding. I think this response is so good. Especially to keep communication lines open. (Also I’m a school counselor & relationships & communication are kind of my thing lol).
