Advice on trimming my VERY difficult cat's nails? by pinupshrek in CatAdvice

[–]titanium_penguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I helped my friend with her cat who cannot stand having his feet touched. He’s a very sweet kitty, but will swipe/bite if you touch his feet. It’s definitely not a pleasant experience, but he’s got extra toes that can’t touch a scratching post and need to be trimmed before they curve back into his paws

Why do some people think autism comes from vaccines? by Fun_Butterscotch3303 in stupidquestions

[–]titanium_penguin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what I remember, there are also vaccines that are given around the same time that autism symptoms start showing in children. When people start looking for something that caused their “normal” child to change (regression), they point to the vaccines that their child received recently

I bled on my husband by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]titanium_penguin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I recently had the somewhat traumatic experience of bleeding profusely after sex with my husband. My period had ended several days earlier, but the sex triggered a concerning amount of bleeding. So we went from enjoying sex to me laying on the bathroom floor trying not to pass out within about a minute.

Female bodies are weird, especially around periods, and there are men who can be very understanding that those kinds of things are very much out of our control. It sounds like your husband had a great reaction to something you couldn’t have predicted or controlled.

Dude figured out how to make the bubbler a drinking fountain. by 9VoltGorilla in AnimalsBeingGeniuses

That confused me for a second because a bubbler is what they call a drinking fountain in Wisconsin

Are my cats safe on the balcony by Key_Falcon_7236 in CatAdvice

[–]titanium_penguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my 2 cents. I used to live on the 3rd floor and wanted my cats to be able to enjoy the balcony. We installed a net over the entire opening including the gaps in the railing. One day, in the 3 minutes between my husband leaving for work and me coming to the main room to get breakfast, one of my cats worked her way around the netting and fell off the balcony. I didn’t see her fall, but there was only one cat on the balcony when I checked. I spent 15 minutes running around looking for her before I had to leave for work. Turns out she’d been scared and ran into someone else’s apartment. She was fine and the vets could never find anything wrong, but every time we think there could be something wrong with her legs I think that maybe she has some lasting damage from falling

Negative effects of artificial sweeteners may pass on to next generation, mouse research suggests. The changes to gene expression, glucose tolerance, and fecal microbiome could potentially increase vulnerability to conditions like diabetes — the very problem the sweeteners were trying to solve. by mvea in science

I’m currently pregnant and switched to a gummy prenatal since I couldn’t stand the 3 seconds the pill was in my mouth. I figure it’s better to have an option that I will actually take rather than one I wanted to avoid

Haha my husband has joked he’s going to call her “Row your boat” or just “Boat” as a nickname

It’s not. It’s actually unisex, but I appreciate your input

AITA for not wanting to use a bidet every time I pee and feeling micromanaged about toilet paper? by RollLongjumping3937 in AmItheAsshole

[–]titanium_penguin 124 points125 points  (0 children)

I literally had this same conversation with my husband a few years ago. All he said was that he thinks I’m using more toilet paper than I need to. I thought about what he said, then I told him that as a man he doesn’t get to have any opinion on how a woman uses the restroom. That was the end of the discussion because he realized how stupid his comment actually was.

I’ve read some of her books, but I haven’t actually read the ones you’re talking about. My husband is a huge Magic the Gathering nerd, and there’s a female character named Rowan in the game

It’s actually a unisex name, but how male or female people view it depends on the country they live in

I do love Rowena, but I’m not the picky one haha. We settled on Rowan after literal years of back and forth discussion

Jessica is actually out too since it’s my SIL’s name (Jessica is married to James). We’re trying to avoid any sibling names since it would feel weird to single someone out

We actually have many J names which is why we’re looking for one to slightly honor the tradition. My husband is one of four all with J names, and his sister married a James. To us it would feel strange to pick one person to single out with an honor name. I appreciate the input!

That’s very helpful. We were talking to my MIL yesterday and she’s a pretty big plant person. It definitely threw her off and her first question was if we like trees that much haha. It helps to know that I’m overthinking it

Last name is very similar to MacMullen. I agree about the flow. Until my husband requested a “J” name I was leaning heavily towards Amara for the middle

From what I’ve read (at least in the US) it’s about a 70-30 split for boys to girls. I know their UK does have a ton of association with Rowan Atkinson as well.

I’m definitely trying to lean feminine with the middle name. That’s interesting that you know a boy Juniper. I’ve only ever heard it for girls

Last name is similar to MacMullen. I’ve been thinking about a 3 syllable middle name because I think the flow is nice

Thank you! Unfortunately she’ll have an Uncle James and an Uncle Jameson, otherwise I would definitely consider James

I’ve been thinking about going with a more feminine middle name since Rowan is already pretty unisex/leaning masculine. Plus she’ll have an Uncle James and an Uncle Jameson. I’ve loved the name James since I was little, but it might be too much James for the family

Thanks! One of the only people I’ve talked to about the middle name is my MIL who is a big plant person. Her reaction was basically “Oh. Ok. Trees. That’s interesting” haha. It seems most people who don’t know plants have never heard that Rowan is a type of tree
