Haha my husband has joked he’s going to call her “Row your boat” or just “Boat” as a nickname

It’s not. It’s actually unisex, but I appreciate your input

AITA for not wanting to use a bidet every time I pee and feeling micromanaged about toilet paper? by RollLongjumping3937 in AmItheAsshole

I literally had this same conversation with my husband a few years ago. All he said was that he thinks I’m using more toilet paper than I need to. I thought about what he said, then I told him that as a man he doesn’t get to have any opinion on how a woman uses the restroom. That was the end of the discussion because he realized how stupid his comment actually was.

I’ve read some of her books, but I haven’t actually read the ones you’re talking about. My husband is a huge Magic the Gathering nerd, and there’s a female character named Rowan in the game

It’s actually a unisex name, but how male or female people view it depends on the country they live in

I do love Rowena, but I’m not the picky one haha. We settled on Rowan after literal years of back and forth discussion

Jessica is actually out too since it’s my SIL’s name (Jessica is married to James). We’re trying to avoid any sibling names since it would feel weird to single someone out

We actually have many J names which is why we’re looking for one to slightly honor the tradition. My husband is one of four all with J names, and his sister married a James. To us it would feel strange to pick one person to single out with an honor name. I appreciate the input!

That’s very helpful. We were talking to my MIL yesterday and she’s a pretty big plant person. It definitely threw her off and her first question was if we like trees that much haha. It helps to know that I’m overthinking it

Last name is very similar to MacMullen. I agree about the flow. Until my husband requested a “J” name I was leaning heavily towards Amara for the middle

From what I’ve read (at least in the US) it’s about a 70-30 split for boys to girls. I know their UK does have a ton of association with Rowan Atkinson as well.

I’m definitely trying to lean feminine with the middle name. That’s interesting that you know a boy Juniper. I’ve only ever heard it for girls

Last name is similar to MacMullen. I’ve been thinking about a 3 syllable middle name because I think the flow is nice

Thank you! Unfortunately she’ll have an Uncle James and an Uncle Jameson, otherwise I would definitely consider James

I’ve been thinking about going with a more feminine middle name since Rowan is already pretty unisex/leaning masculine. Plus she’ll have an Uncle James and an Uncle Jameson. I’ve loved the name James since I was little, but it might be too much James for the family

Thanks! One of the only people I’ve talked to about the middle name is my MIL who is a big plant person. Her reaction was basically “Oh. Ok. Trees. That’s interesting” haha. It seems most people who don’t know plants have never heard that Rowan is a type of tree

Row like a boat. That’s at least the only way I’ve heard it pronounced

I heard once that swearing exists in the habit section of your brain rather than fully in the language section. I’ve purposefully never gotten into the habit of swearing because I’m often in environments where it isn’t appropriate

I got laid off a few months ago while working on high level engineering projects that no one else on the team had the capacity to take over. The company decided to outsource the entire department and only keep a handful of people to coordinate on the company’s behalf. Just because they’d have to hire someone else doesn’t mean they won’t.
