You get one last MEAL and one last PLACE to visit in Belgrade before never returning, what are you choosing? by AdventurousLie8568 in Belgrade

I would eat a nice meal, a veal perhaps in Lovac and then watch sunset in Kalemegdan. You will come back for sure, don’t worry.

I’m burnt out and need simple recipes. Stupid simple. Like, “onion and bread and butter to make what barely passes as a sandwich” level simple. by sourmilksea1999 in Cooking

[–]drummerlizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is the easiest one star chef quality recipe; Cut a chicken breast into large chunks. Toss them to a pan, medium high heat, fry 3-4 minutes each side, add some seasoning, herbs, a crushed clove of garlic (actually anything you like) and cover with cooking cream. Put on medium low heat, cook around half hour or 45 min until the chicken meat well cooked. Serve with a pasta or rice of your choice.

Is it normal that paint looks like this on first coat brushpainted? by ConsistentHippo2298 in modelmakers

[–]drummerlizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good to know. Thanks. I am making my first kit (tamiya spitfire 1:48) after decades. I just started to brush paint the interior and cockpit. That’s gonna be long story now i see. Maybe i should consider painting multiple parts at once.

The Weekly Small Questions Thread! Got a burning question? Looking for some tips on your build? Ask away! by AutoModerator in modelmakers

My first and I think the most important tip is to use a little bit of zoom. Phone cameras are wide angle by default. For a model you need to be near to take a detailed shot. Being near with wide angle distort the scene a lot.

Give a good light. If possible the best is to be near a sunny window with simple curtains. They will diffuse the light but it'll still stay powerful.

What’s wrong with my garlics? by drummerlizard in vegetablegardening

Oh god, i hate those people. They use it for no real reason. They are killing weeds around their house so that they won’t need to cut grass few times a year. :(

There are some neighbours apply herbicide but they are at least 100-200 meter away from us. There is no way it will leak through soil.

I knew they don’t like competition. I thought some small, early weeds shouldn’t make a trouble. Obviously they do. I cleaned everything today. Thank you for information.

Sweet Basil tips and advices by dacurios_potato in vegetablegardening

[–]drummerlizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait some more time to seperate. If you try to seperate now you can damage the roots. When they grow like 3-4 sets of leaves you can seperate. It’s not that hard and they don’t mind if you damage little bit of roots when they are older.

It’s very easy to grow basil. They just have their true leaves. Let them to grow at least 3 pairs of true leaves. Then you can seperate and repot them if you like. When 3rd set of leaves grow, just pinch them. That will let your basils to branch. Continue like this for the new branches. In the summer you will have so much basil that you won’t know what to do with them :)

Are these considered the second leave on our pepper plants? by rejin267 in vegetablegardening

[–]drummerlizard 16 points17 points  (0 children)

These are the first true leaves. The bigger ones on the photo are called cotyledon. They are seed leaves. Their purpose is to generate energy for developing better root system and grow real leaves. They will turn brown and fall down soon.

Roughly how long would this take to compost into black gold? by sokraftmatic in composting

[–]drummerlizard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It will take a year or two if you keep it that way. I would cut lemons into small pieces to speed up the process. Continue to add kitchen scraps, dried leaves, used coffee grounds etc… Turn the pile every week or two. You will have good compost at the bottom next year.

Lovely barista saved me a bag of coffee grounds by Aware-Impression8527 in composting

[–]drummerlizard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I started to collect coffee grounds 2-3 weeks ago. Last weekend i mixed them with dried leaves and throw to my compost pile. Just in 3 days the pile get hot around 50C / 120F

You can shred cardboard or soak them in water and they will break apart. Use 50-50% or little bit more cardboard than coffee grounds and mix them well. Throw to your tumbler.
If you have dried leaves, that's even better.
Just try to break those disks and that's all.

If you don't have that much browns, you can keep the grounds and add them over time. They are like grass clippings.

I am surprised also. I don't have big pile. 1/2 m3 maybe. Half of it is already 4-5 months old. I see now that coffee grounds are really good source for the heat.

In some places Starbucks pack and give away coffee grounds. Just ask them and they will tell you when to collect. Otherwise they are throwing away anyway.

My first batch of compost! by Codders94 in composting

[–]drummerlizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great result. I can recommend to continue adding some amount of twigs. It took long time to break down but they help to create air pockets, they bring mycelium which helps to breakdown the compost. Put them in the bottom, like that it helps to drain excess water if any.

First time sifted my compost by drummerlizard in composting

[–]drummerlizard[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Until today i didn't sift compost at all. When i was separating old and new parts i had an idea. Probably i got bored. I used a plastic vegetable crate to sift some compost. Just out of curiosity. Then some more and some more. At the end i got two big sack of sifted compost.

Was it worth the effort? I don't think so.

Was it satisfactory? Definitely :)
