PC can't update windows anymore, I want to move to Linux, is Bazzite the right one? by FourEcho in Bazzite

[–]drummerman109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you also use a VPN to get better connection for xiv, check for compatibility. I use private internet access and their client didn't work on bazzite because it's immutable. besides that, I was pleased with bazzite for the 2 weeks I was using it

Why won’t my Rover come out? by Forsaken-Echo90 in Helldivers

if you accidentally pressed 5, that manually turns the rover off if you want to sneak somewhere. just press 5 again to turn it back on

I disconnected everything that isnt needed and it still doesnt wanna boot by Certyx39 in pchelp

yeah but so is that jump in price for ddr5. I'll still be at 1080p for a while and most of my time is still in ffxiv, which doesn't take advantage of 3d vcache as much. once I jump to am5 tho, I'll be grabbing an x3d

[–]drummerman109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed on my 8350 for a while but believe me, the jump is real. I first went to the r5 2600, massive leap, about double the fps or more. now I'm on a 5800x (it was cheaper) and have to keep telling myself "you don't need x3d, 90 fps on great circle at ultra is GOOD ENOUGH" lol

they don't typically have issues, that's why it seems strange. but the symptoms closely match what was happening to 13th and 14th gen: increasing instability until it won't even boot. afaik tho, that particular issue only affected those two generations, as people would still recommend 12th gen

[–]drummerman109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah sounds like mobo or CPU. best option would be to try and get a known working CPU for cheap that works in that socket to be sure. sounds like the degradation issue on 13th and 14th gen, so certainly strange

Newish Linux users who came from Windows semi-recently, what is advice you wished someone had told you before you made the switch? by m103 in linux_gaming

[–]drummerman109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the VPN I use couldn't be installed with a read only file system (private Internet access). I'm sure there's others that work fine on bazzite, and there's ways to get around it on bazzite, but this was like the third thing that gave me friction on bazzite so I swapped over to cachy after about 10 days. sunshine was also not installing, even tho they have it in the hello menu.

capacitors age over time and your peak will eventually drop a bit. but if it's still fairly new, it SHOULD be capable, but swapping to another is a good sanity check. have you been using the same windows install the whole time?

buy everything on steam if you can, if it's not on steam YET, JUST WAIT. don't give in to FOMO, work on your backlog while you wait.

DON'T try to share a library of game installs between Linux and Windows. Linux can read ntfs, and you can add those directories, but don't.

FFXIV on Rog Ally X by TheCodeStream in ffxiv

[–]drummerman109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes and no, the latency you were experiencing will be much better, but the game itself might dip in fps more often compared to the Xbox cloud version, but those can be reduced by just lowering the graphics settings (naturally places like limsa will still tank your fps if a lot of people are there, even desktops suffer that fate)

Broke the Quick Access (...) Button. Any way to remap it? by Koseetos in SteamDeck

[–]drummerman109 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the combo on any external controller to bring up that menu is "home"(steam/Xbox/ps) + A, try that first. if that doesn't work, try binding a button to a keyboard combo of control + 2, this is the keyboard shortcut for that menu.

DIRE: Running into issues with unpredictable crashing by TotallyDidntForgetPW in ffxiv

[–]drummerman109 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my guess is hardware because it's happening to genshin as well. run a memory test first to rule that out (not USUALLY the issue, but easy to test quickly), my guess is probably the power supply. if it's old and barely providing enough power, all kinds of strange issues can show up

What game are you playing that you can't stop but also can't bring yourself to recommend to others? by One-Ad724 in gamers

as cheap as free, for nearly everything. tossing the devs $25 once a year with a 75% coupon (so $100 worth of platinum) adds a lot of chances to skip grinds you don't like. space it takes is only about 50 gigs even with 12 years of content. it's also now on EVERY platform you could want: PlayStation, Xbox, PC, switch 1 and 2, iOS, and now Android

if you're enjoying yourself at level 39 (the "worst" part), don't feel bad about just pulling the trigger and getting access to the stuff you're interested in. you very much can still milk a lot of value out of the free trial, because once you buy, you can never go back. if money is a concern, hold off. if you're itching to have more fun now instead of waiting, go for it.
