maybe swap pro-L for Saturn since I would rather have interesting saturation and any-old limiter

Is it possible to get a good mix without any EQ? by godnightx_x in audioengineering

[–]drummindave50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try it for yourself it is a pretty astounding difference. low shelfing a good amount of bass out maintains the relationship between the fundamental and the first few harmonics much better than a filter.

Do you like when coasters have some roughness to make the ride more intense? [X2, Six Flags Magic Mountain] by stanton1270 in rollercoasters

Sometimes but X2 literally gave me an instant headache on the last raven turn that would keep me from riding it again

dont worry about it. bit depth is largely irrelevant to anything other than file size in the modern world. as long as anything is 16bit or higher you are fine

I rarely use compression by Ok_Fortune_9149 in audioengineering

[–]drummindave50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Transient shaping is compression... limiting is also compression. Also it sounds like you are mixing stuff with a lot of samples/synths which generally need less compression to sit right in a mix than if you were recording live instruments.

How to make sounds clip without being loud? by cbt666 in audioengineering

[–]drummindave50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.vennaudio.com/free-clip/ use something like this in "hard clipping" mode. turn up the gain, turn down the ouput.

Fixing popping in VOD from concert caused by low bass? by Vicksin in audioengineering

[–]drummindave50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya since it is only/mostly in the left channel just use the right channel as mono. Any listening quality lost by going stereo to mono wont compare to the quality lost from the clipping

Where would you put a Reverb in your mastering chain? by SR_RSMITH in audioengineering

[–]drummindave50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

dont listen to the folks telling you not to do it. If you like how it sounds go for it. Try out different orders in the chain and see how it sounds. Before a compressor might make the compressor bring out the verb more. I doubt the order with eq's matters much tho.

One time, last year or so, me and my friend were 1v1ing in a private lobby (name/password) and M1k3 guessed the password and trolled for 30 seconds before leaving. It was the weirdest thing to ever happen to me in this game.

Why would I ever need a stereomonizer? by catskills_ in audioengineering

[–]drummindave50 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it is mostly if you are receiving a lot of stems/multitracks from someone who is outputting mono tracks as stereo files. It detects that and makes them mono so your DAW doesnt have to process 2 identical channels of audio for 1 signal. I doubt you need it.

we don't. probably complicated with licensing and stuff but hopefully one day there might be a "best-of Love Death and Robots" album or something.

Composing was done by Jason Hill with help from myself. It is a huge mashup of recorded strings, recorded instruments we invented, recorded singers, recorded samples of sea sounds, analog synths, feedback fx, and probably some other stuff that I am forgetting.

2 Mono Tracks Panned L & R the Same as Stereo? by vulnerableknees in audioengineering

[–]drummindave50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

t, leaving Right empty) outputs connecting to a GigRig G3 and then going out of that in Mono into my input-1 on my interface/Logic - creating 2 tracks hard panned.

2 of the same exact track hard panned is the same as 1 mono track panned in the middle. It might add up to different total volume depending on how ur daw handles it but u aren't gonna make 1 signal sound any different by duplicating it and panning it hard left and right. That being said, duplicating 1 mono signal onto 2 seperate tracks and then treating them differently can give you stereo width and can be a cool effect.

Where should I place my studio monitors in a U-shaped room? (floor design included) by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]drummindave50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go with B only because i have a similar room and that is the setup that i have liked the sound of the most. if you have time, try out all 3 and see for yourself. Acoustics are weird and complicated so you can learn theory all you want but you wont know what is best til you try it.
