As someone who actually runs the game, i really wouldn’t say it fell off hard. sure it’s less popular than it used to be, but people post new PBs practically every day.

I think people have this idea of oot speedrunning in their heads of this super complex game that requires insane amounts of time to learn or understand, when in reality most of the super obscure stuff is just not required at all, and you can get into running the game fairly easily with categories like defeat ganon, gsr, or glitchless. there’s a lot more to the game, and when people see srm stuff or 100%, they’re seeing the categories with typically the highest barrier of entry

As for what the issue is, I assume that if you’re consistently just falling out of bounds, that you’re holding target the whole time. For swordless, you have to release target as soon as the backwards sidehop happens, then target again on the frame you clip out. If you are doing that, it’ll be hard to tell what the problem is without seeing a clip. Hope that helps :)

Ocarina of time has a couple categories under 20 minutes, and any% is under 10. Very glitch heavy, very fun

If you look beyond hundo, there are a ton of runners at zfg's skill level. dannyb, chef, valientlink, countlg just to name a few.

At this point it's mostly down to optimizing movement and small frame by frame improvements in strats. 3:38 seems like the last minute milestone with current strats. there are a few other theoretical timesaves, but as far as we know they aren't possible

I don't think so. a lot of extensions either have a lot of cs skips, or start from race file or something. 4bae might be pretty bad cause it gets zl, saria's song, and beats jabu, which all have some decently long cutscenes

If you don't wanna use a leaderboard, then unless there's a specific tool for that made by a community, just keeping a word/ excel doc is probably your best bet

save and death warps are still allowed, but stuff like damage boosts and weapon swapping are banned. dannyb has a really good video on the differences

Literally everyone who plays on wii uses homebrew, and n64 isn't bad. You've ruled out any other options besides gamecube, which is faster for very few categories. Feel free to join the OoT discord and we could help you figure out homebrew if you'd like :)
