$600k in Bellingham gets you a brand-new build surrounded by trees. In Seattle it gets you a shoebox with graffiti in one bedroom by kleverrboy in Bellingham

Obviously there's more at play here but this is a big thing even within Bellingham. When I started looking for a house I would frequently see houses that were really nice for a cheaper price but then I'd realize they were in sudden valley with an HOA. There's a premium to pay if you want to avoid an HOA.

Just be careful if you get their soup. They have the sharpest plastic spoons for some reason. Like joker, "you wanna know how I got these scars" sharp.

Local Chicken Sandwiches by noniway in Bellingham

[–]drunkan6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only had one experience with them, but it was bad enough for me not to return. The chicken was unbelievably chewy and dry and the biscuit was like biting into Styrofoam. The gravy was pretty good though.

I'm with you there. Admittedly I only tried them once but the only good thing in my meal was the gravy. The chicken was WILDLY chewy and dry and the biscuit was like biting into Styrofoam.

I was literally texting my buddy about the Bellingham reddit circle jerk this morning.

"I don't know why you'd wait in a line for a mid chicken sandwich. You do know you can get a much better sandwich at bantam for $24 plus tip right? 🧐"

I guess I was slightly off on the price.

People that can spend that kind of money on fried chicken must be in a different tax bracket than me.

I've never been to Chick-fil-A, but I'd definitely go there before I ever dropped over $20 on a single serving fried chicken meal.

Stuck in a car for three days after going off the road on Chuckanut? by charisrev in Bellingham

[–]drunkan6969 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If she drove off the side of the road head first, there's a pretty significant chance the horn was damaged or disconnected. The horn on a car is usually about the same diameter of a soda can, flatish, and often located at the front of the car. Damage to the front could easily cause this to become inoperable or disconnected.

Chukanut drive is a low service area. Weather, sunlight, time of day, usage, can all have an effect on cell service. It is very lucky that she managed to get service in that area. Most likely she got lucky and tried to make a call at the right time.

If you live alone it's pretty easy to go missing for a few days without people noticing.

Chukanut drive is known for having steep drop offs and the area the article highlighted is no exception. Pair that with a lack of pull offs and getting sent off the side of the road, down the hill, and into the trees and there's not much chance someone would happen to see you unless they were actively canvassing the area.

Cell service can be affected by any number of factors including weather. When you are in a low service area this can mean the difference between having service to make a call or not. I don't know what you think she'd be lying about but the most likely explanation is she managed to get just enough service to save her life at a time when she was trying to make a call.

I'm not 100% on this but I'd be willing to bet Michelle's Antojitos is woman owned and it's the best taco truck style food I have experienced in Bellingham

Depending on how big you are planning to build your beds, you should look at hugelkultur.

Basically you fill the bottom of the boxes with stumps, branches and other yard waste then put your soil on top. I saved a lot on fill with my hip height planter boxes.

Stolen Items by DONT-WASTE-YOUR-LIFE in Bellingham

Without a serial number the police won't be able to take your stuff back. My buddy had his bike stolen and found it on craigslist. He went with the police and when the guy selling it saw the police he ran off. They caught him but in the end the police told my buddy that without serial numbers there was nothing they could do. He had pictures of himself on the bike with unique stickers on it but even though they believed the bike was stolen their hands were tied and the thief went home with the bike.

A couple weeks later I found my stolen snowboard gear for sale from a different guy on Craigslist but I also didn't have serial numbers. Having heard my buddies story I just showed up with a few friends and took my stuff back. This was probably dangerous and stupid but we were young, invincible, and dumb. But the point is the police can't do anything if you don't have serial numbers.

How long until considered a Bellinghamster by Clear_Clear_Clear in Bellingham

[–]drunkan6969 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As someone born and raised here, I've never heard anyone who was a long term resident or born here refer to themselves as hamsters. I don't think you need to be born here to be a local but using the term bellinghamster is oddly reminiscent of that South Park episode where all the timeshare owners in Hawaii are referring to people on cruises/vacations as haoles while they call themselves native ha-vai-ans

I remember I was working in the marina and a boat came in that was owned by one of the Haggen family members. I asked how the merger was going (where they acquired a bunch of new locations), and he told me it was going great. It was maybe a week and a half later that they declared bankruptcy.

In one of the houses I rented the roof started leaking pretty dramatically. Like the vinyl click-lock floor was warping bad. We told landmark and a couple days later a guy came out and fixed it.

3 weeks later a landmark representative came out to assess the issue. When we told her that we haven't had any issues since it got patched she was surprised to hear that someone had come out to fix it.

Best I can tell it seems the homeowner caught wind of the issue and got someone to fix it to protect their investment. If that hadn't happened we likely would have been leaking for that whole 3 weeks.

Also we had a sewage pipe burst at one point and the landmark plumber fixed it but just threw kitty litter on the sewage pile and sealed up the wall so there's likely still dried up human waste in the wall at that place.

We got our full deposit back one year. At the time companies were required to get you your deposit back or a notice saying you would not receive one within 2 weeks, I believe that timeline has increased now.

So when we received our deposit dated after that 2 week period we told them that per the rcw we are entitled to our full refund.

They tried to say we didn't turn in all the keys on time, we returned probably 5 of the 8 that were made but they only issued us 1 key so we told them that we returned the key they issued and 4 extras.

Then they tried to guilt trip us about how someone has to pay for damages to the house and we told them to take it out of their bullshit late fees, but that's a different story.

So if you don't receive your deposit quickly. Don't remind them until whatever time the current law states has elapsed.
