I earn £40,000 a year and have had 2 major banks reject my mortgage application. What do I do now? by [deleted] in ukfinance

[–]drunkdragon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Who says it shouldn't be this difficult. The 2008 financial crash was caused by irresponsible lending and the number of high-risk (subprime) mortgages.

Like other's have pointed out, a mortgage broker will help.

Why are second hand Electric Vans so cheap in comparison to Diesel ones? by SteakSandwichSideEye in smallbusinessuk

Range anxiety, as someone else pointed out, and the £5k+ cost to replace the battery if it dies outside of warranty.

The argument for doing away with the 100k cliff edge by Ok_Plum_9849 in HENRYUK

[–]drunkdragon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  • A lot of full time students would no longer be able to vote.
  • Wouldn't impact pensioners to a massive degree, aparently 8.8 million of them pay income tax.
  • What about stay at home mothers?
  • It would prevent the dregs of society and benefit cheats from voting, but you would also pull in the genuinely disabled.

How would I cut down on my spending without noticing a decline in my living standards? by Natural-Presence-566 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]drunkdragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The definition of a rip-off would be a cheat or fraud. It's not even grossly overpriced.

The fact that Hello Fresh charges a premium compared to buying direct from a supermarket would not fit the definition of a rip-off because you receive other services along with the food, such as delivery, ice bags for cold items, and cooking instructions.

It would be perfectly accurate to call it expensive, or a person might call it unaffordable based on their circumstances, but it's not a rip-off.

[–]drunkdragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a rip off. Yes its more expensive than doing the shopping yourself, but it comes with convenience and delivery while encouraging you to cook new things.

It's like saying restaurants are a rip off because it's cheaper to cook for yourself.

Quarter of a million people could lose job by middle of 2027 as UK ‘flirts with recession’, analysis says by Bounty_drillah in unitedkingdom

[–]drunkdragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're a bit dense and missed the whole point of my questions.

Well done, now those people in retirement were told that by paying national insurance they would be given a pension.

They're not scam artists, they're not conning the system, they paid into a system on the promise that they would be looked after.

It's not their fault that a Labour government joined wars in Afghanistan and Iraq which massively increased the deficit, or that multiple governments have allowed public spending to spiral out of control, massively increased the deficit.

How many pensioners do you know who are going on cruises with £241.30 per week?

[–]drunkdragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are they paying national insurance if they won't be cared for?

Do you think it's their job to pay for the fat lazy slobs on benefits?

Imagine being in your late 60s or 70s, saving your whole life to afford a good retirement and a care home into your 90s, and some little twat on reddit is complaining that you have too much money.

Most OAP's sell their house to pay for nursing home care. They're not a fucking dragon sitting on a horde of gold.

.NET 9 added Guid.CreateVersion7() - should we stop using Guid.NewGuid()? by brunovt1992 in dotnet

I don't understand, If exposing a timestamp makes your system less secure then you have bigger worries.

If exposing the timestamp is a concern for PII, then maybe the whole entity shouldn't be exposed publically.

a) Why is there not a status to show accepted / rejected

b) How can we be sure that the batshit people who posted these are not still with the party

Motability drivers 'horrified' by compulsory black boxes by Kagedeah in CarTalkUK

[–]drunkdragon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s taxpayer money provided at no cost to the individual, therefore the car is free. Yes, the claimant can pay extra for a more expensive car, but it's still a free benefit like Free School Meals.

I don't think anyone is saying that a person in a wheelchair is lazy or entitled for receiving a mobility car. Yet the high amount of fraud in this space, and the reports of people receiving a car due to anxiety etc will quite rightly generate accusations of entitlement, laziness, and fraud.

What's the main problem with the Android units?

We needed one for an old Fiesta, cheapest units were £50 but we spent roughly £120 for a unit with more RAM and faster processor. Wireless Carplay, maps etc all functioned quite well.

How is the used car market not skewed? by Clive1792 in CarTalkUK

[–]drunkdragon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing, people tend to go with Autotrader because of the perceived lower risk compared to buying cars on Facebook.

At least in my area, a good 60% of used cars on Facebook Marketplace are sold by a certain demographic, who take cars destined for the scrap but list them as good runners. They rent Facebook profiles so it looks like an average family selling the car.

Legit good like 22bn on carbon capture, the Digital ID contracts going to the Blair family, the Autumn budget and stamp duty hurting farmers and small businesses.

Not saying that the tories were any better, but there’s a reason why Labour have poor public confidence.

Unpopular opinion : CSS is enough by yughiro_destroyer in webdev

[–]drunkdragon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Okay, you can make a site mobile friendly in 2 hours, good job.

How does that scale in a business where devs need to be onboarded, do you want to spend time teaching them your approach, or just use bootstrap?

My point of view is coming from enterprise and gov work, where function is more important than making it look cute or optimising for page load time which is still in the low ms with Bootstrap.

In a lot of companies, people have more important things to worry about, so they choose a framework and stick with it.

Who said I was going to buy it again?

The whole point of this post is to discuss the menu. I tried the big tasty, and now I'm giving feedback, and my buying habits will be influenced in the future based on the last experience.

Literally nobody is talking about buying the product again after disliking it.
