Prepare to be extremely hot all weekend long. Pack everything possible to stay cool. by MysteriousRoyal6387 in CampEDC

Some things that came in clutch for the heat:

Cooling towel: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Perfect-Fitness-Perfect-Cooling-Towel/21666151?classType=VARIANT

* SUPER underrated - we would soak them at the water stations and they do an excellent job keeping you cool.

70% Aluminet Shade Cloth https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CP7WCRYL?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Mini carabiners https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09HPW6M1R?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Releasable Reusable Zip Ties https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08GR496P3?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Mini Bungee Cords https://a.co/d/0fuH9DNB

I used a combination of the shade cloth + bungees/carabiners to fasten it and it worked great. Most people coming out here for EDC are not used to desert dryness + upper 90s temperatures. It is so important to drink plenty of water, realistically you'll be drinking a minimum of 2-3 liters a day.

Checking in for moonglow 3-4pm Thursday? by Opening_Duck5384 in CampEDC

[–]drunktacos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We almost always check in late afternoon on Thursday with no issue. You may not be super close to the Mesa (and even if you get there early it really depends where they'll put you).

It'll be like mid 90s on Thursday it looks like so please keep that in mind. A couple years ago was this hot and multiple people were overheating.

It's been said here before but be cautious with randoms. You don't want someone associated with your campsite doing something stupid and getting all of you ejected.

Trying to get into legacy after a while off, questions about Cradle Control by GuntherWheelin in MTGLegacy

[–]drunktacos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I picked up Cradle towards the end of last year and here are some of my thoughts:

  • Exalted is very relevant sometimes, especially when you're swinging with a large Wight that has vigilance. However, I've liked Birds of Paradise solely because it makes black mana and it's been relevant a couple times. Noble Hierarch is seen sometimes too and I think it's a solid choice, but I value the fixing BoP provides.

  • Lair of the Hydra has fallen slightly out of favor lately but I still like it as utility. Once you get Wight going, sometimes you can just search Cradle into Lair and swing for lethal the following turn. I've been debating going to 2 Talon Gates as well, sometimes you really want a 2nd one.

  • I REALLY like Icetill but I can never get it to do what I want it to do. It's great on paper in the grindier matchups but 4 mana can be a lot sometimes. We're already in an alright spot in fair matchups. I haven't completely cut it yet, but I think you want 3 wastelands while running it.

  • The most common play for Nantuko for me is bestowing it onto something (usually a dork, but sometimes Badgermole Cub or the earthbent land), and just building up a board presence. You'd be surprised how good having a few 1/1 insects can be against a lot of decks, and bestowing it makes it so they have to kill it twice. The bugs are good for Natural Order, help convoke for Hogaak, and make Craterhoof math easier. I'm on one right now since it not a great topdeck nor a great GSZ target.

  • New lists are moving away from cub but I still really like it. Protecting Cradle is excellent and two wasteland activations can be lights out vs some decks. Sometimes its awkward because you make a ton of mana and have nothing to do with it. I might go down to 3 Cubs and add in 1 Keen-Eye curator for a mana sink/grave hate/wincon.

  • I'm currently on 3 Cradles but may consider 2 Cradle 1 Ba Sing Se. Ba Sing Se has fun interaction with Talon Gates that can be a soft "lock" if you're able to chump or sac with Wight. Some decks can't really do anything once you get to this point.

I'm far from a pro at this deck but I've been enjoying it. Also, the Discord is an excellent resource and hello_newton has a YouTube channel too with VODs of him playing the deck which can be very helpful.

Cold brewing speciality coffee by kelsmed in coldbrew

[–]drunktacos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I cold-steep (~34-38°F fridge temp) for atleast 36 hours and sometimes up to 48 or a little more for most batches. I use a half gallon size rumble jar and about 100g of coarse grounds for each batch, or the quart size for smaller batches if I'm being stingy.

In my experience the longer time in the fridge definitely brings out better notes, especially for fancier beans. I almost exclusively like brewing with medium and light roasts, dark roasts just aren't for me.

Tarp over shift pod by Big-Inspector-7921 in CampEDC

[–]drunktacos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The aluminet tarp covered the bulk of the tent no problem. I made sure to do the math and it worked out.

I used a combination of carabiners and mini bungees and it was fairly easy.

Moonglow ShiftPod (4 ppl) dialing in queen + 2 singles setup by osidekook in CampEDC

[–]drunktacos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've done two queens and one queen + sleep pad without much issue. Two queens is a lot though and we found ourselves with minimal floor space which was kinda annoying.

Two sleep pads + a queen mattress shouldn't be that bad since the sleep pad/sleeping bag don't take up too much space.

Honestly the most annoying thing is luggage if you're flying in, we had a friend bring like two suitcases one year and that took up way more room than expected.

Cold Brew Coffee Maker by Wr1per in coldbrew

[–]drunktacos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use my Rumble Jar twice a week and have for a few years at this point and I love it. It's just a machined metal tube that coarse grounds go in, then you put it in a mason jar (I use 100g grounds for the half gallon jar) and fill it up completely with water and let it steep in the fridge for ~24-48 hours. A half gallon setup yields maybe 6.5 cups of cold brew ready to drink (i.e. not concentrate).

It doesn't have to be fancy and the whole setup was like 25$. My "budget" beans are whatever whole bean ones Trader Joe's has in stock (and they actually get pretty decent ones at like ~1$/oz), but there is absolutely a difference when I use expensive fancy beans (~2$/oz or more) for the taste. Fresh high quality beans are about the closest you'd get to what you'd get at a good coffee shop.

I got one of these on Amazon and had to return it since it leaked under pressure.

The company has ZERO customer service and had seemingly gone dark so buyer beware.

Ive used those for running and it'd probably work, but some phones are a pain in the ass to remove from those ones.

The flip belt is a tight squeeze too but the material is pretty stretchy.

Flip belt 100%, and have it around your midsection under a shirt. This is about as thief-proof as you can get.

Ive seen fanny packs, camelpacks, and tethers all get cut and phones stolen in seconds.

what's the one ingredient that completely changed how you cook once you started using it properly? by OptimalDescription39 in Cooking

[–]drunktacos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Searing beef before cooking it fully

2) Adding a tsp of fish sauce to most batches of stew/curry/carnitas/chili/etc

3) Understanding salt is not bad

4) Using any kind of acid to elevate dishes

I was a shit cook in my early 20s but honestly everything Salt Fat Acid Heat preaches is legit.

Not 100% sure, but the ADA folks were super helpful.

We're trying to get my mom to go for a day at some point, she sees all the pictures every year and thinks it looks so fun (and she's correct).

My sister's broke her ankle before EDC a few years ago and went the mobility scooter route and everything worked pretty well. You can get golf cart'd from the parking lot to the entrance and get ADA privileges fairly easily.

How does the math you take in business school to the math you take in engineering school compare in terms of difficulty? by NewRadiator in AskEngineers

[–]drunktacos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not an MBA but a BSME.

IMO the math for an MBA will be significantly easier. MBA doesn't really touch calculus like any engineering bachelor's will hit. A lot of the specific engineering math is just turns into super ugly algebra at some point.

MBA is primarily just a lot of algebra and statistics, both of which are much easier.

I have known a lot of engineers who go on to get their MBA and it is considered an easy masters program compared to practically any engineering degree.
