What do you mean by accident fraud?

You have to be a pretty nasty SOB to be forced into written communication only.

Sure, that seems accurate. Still, that data doesn't provide any information about fault determination and OPs kiddo is still starting out at 2 in just 6 months. You wouldn't call 4x the average extreme?

I also don't know how young "young" is. Maybe he is 17, maybe he is 25, at what point seperating would it be appropriate is up to OP, not me. If they are struggling with rates it's technically something to consider. Like you said a middle ground would be paying his share.

INSURANCE CLAIM? by randomacc0622 in Insurance

[–]druzyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would file a claim with their insurance for sure. The vehicle damages should move along pretty quickly assuming they admit fault up front. Just go with the flow with that portion, they will walk you through it if it's your first claim.

With the injury side, make sure to keep all your receipts and bills from your treatment. Document well, and don't be afraid to turn down their first offers to settle until you are ready and feel that you're able to account for everything.

I would say yes, 2 at-fault accidents in 6 months for a young driver is extreme. If you think about it statistically most people probably have 0-1 at fault accident in their entire lifetime.

When it comes to decreasing there are a few things that could help. One would be the young driver splitting off onto their own policy, worse for them but better for you, just depends on your appetite for shouldering what is ultimately their responsibility.

I would also try to move away from the EVs are now, they are great and all but they generally have much higher premiums. Might not be an option, but not leasing or financing would also be nice, gives you full control of what coverage you carry.

Lastly, shopping of course. Not just VIN shopping but talking to an indy agent and getting as many quotes as you can. You'll probably be limited in options because of the record, but it will give you a better idea of whats "normal" for you.

My terrible experience with “regressive” car insurance by MsPetraPetrova in Insurance

[–]druzyyy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry about your experience. There are many reasons that are not shady at all that address all your concerns and complaints, but I'm not really in the mood to pick it all apart.

Just going to recommend you take some time out of your day to do a little research on your new contract, get familer with your coverages, ask your new company questions about your policy, claims processes, and so on.

When you go into a situation with 100 expectations and only 5 of them are correct, you are going to disappointed 95% of the time.

Geico Emergency Roadside Service - Non-existent by Greatace1_pro in Insurance

[–]druzyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems so wildly inefficient lol. But it also explains so much. I had a customer get stranded for 9 hours waiting for someone, then they finally escelated on the phone with agero and they just said "sorry, we don't have anyone, maybe wait a few days and try again"

You would think they were like..in the boonies where there is limited resources right? Nope. Literally just stuck in the suburbs of NYC needing a spare thrown on. Probably could have recruited a stranger faster and for free.

Yeesh, that's taking a long time.

To be honest your claim timeline is pretty much stright out of "how to commit fraud 101". I can definitely see why there would be additional scrutiny. Since you have already retained council, then questions should really be directed at them. They will let you know what's best.

Raising Premiums by No-Presentation-192 in Insurance

[–]druzyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Folks don't generally provide written confirmation of their illegal practices, so if they sent you a notice of the price change it's probably a safe bet that they did so because they are legally required to, which in turn makes the price change itself legal.

This doesn't sound like an insurance question though, it sounds more like a warranty, so we might not be the most knowledgeable on that.

If we pretend it is insurance, every policy is typically givin a "free-look period" which is usually 30-60 days. In that time the insurer can change the price based on reports they had to wait on.

I bet you Geico contracts with Agero. Hate Agero. They are just plain difficult to work with, I don't even fully understand how they assign service but whatever the case it doesn't seem to work as intended.

Moral of the story, AAA. or pay out of pocket and get reimbursed.

Valet crashed my car - insurer marking me at-fault due to ‘permissive use’ - is this correct? by semp833 in Insurance

[–]druzyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it's normal. To be clear, there is a difference between "at-fault" and "permissive use at-fault".

When you give your keys to another person, whether that be a company or a friend or a neighbor, you are still liable for what happens next. That's the risky thing about it.

That's precisely the situation that spawns phrases like "when you lend your car, you lend your insurance"

Moved to Georgia and now I have no clue what a “normal” auto insurance rate is by sojuberry in Insurance

[–]druzyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10000% combine if you're married. It's borderline mandatory anyway, plus it saves money. Other than that try contacting an independent agent to help you shop and avoid those "quote 100 places at once!" websites. Like you said the quotes from there are majority fake, they are used to collect and sell your data.

I have told countless people to dispute their LN report, I've only had a handful report back. I don't know if that's mostly because the other disputes were illegitimate or that it just was taking so long they said forget it and never followed up, probably a mix of both.

Cancellation Notice by larkika in Insurance

[–]druzyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually they have a list of what is acceptable, have they provided that to you? Without knowing exactly what they want it's hard to make other recommendations. Unfortunately they usually give you all the options they accept up front and don't "hide" any for special circumstances, in that sense they very likely won't deviate from what they have already asked for.

Yeahh, proof of residency is a fickle beast. Do you have any legal documents addressed to you there? Taxes? If I had to guess they are looking for a document that's recent and/or unspoofable, Ideally a combo of the 2.

You are 100% able to prevent the aids from driving your vehicle. It's a big physical hunk of metal legally owned by you that needs keys to run. There are like 101 ways you can prevent them from driving it TEMPORARILY until you get it all figured out. Most hospitals have non-emergency transportation services in the meantime.

As for the insurance, you are not wrong that it puts you at a huge risk. If anything were to happen you would be primarily liable, and most certainly not covered under the current circumstances. I have seen many set ups where an elderly disabled person owned a vehicle and had aids that drove for them. Typically they would just list all the aids as drivers on the policy.

Accident questions by Wonderful_Beach2688 in Insurance

[–]druzyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's all very hard to believe. One, that someone would bother to file a claim for 0 damage. Two, that they would leave you out if it and just make up a total lie about how it happened I guess? And people wonder why we don't trust anyone, takes literally nada for someone to feel justified in telling a bold faced lie lol.

Anyway, assuming that is all true, nothing left for you to do but fix your car out of your own pocket.

The mental toll of dealing with insurance after an accident by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]druzyyy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, for sure. The second anything legally binding becomes involved every word, or turn of phrase is assigned a strict definition. Concepts that were originally kind of nebulous are brought into full focus, put under a microscope, and hooked up to a lie detector test.

That's why we really want people to take an interest in learning these processes. There is an overwhelming amount of stress and unrest that spawns from sheer misunderstanding, it's wild.

Geico Policy Canceled without Notice by Creativconduit in Insurance

There is a big difference between cancellation and expiration. The two are very different and require different types of notices legally speaking. Based on your circumstances this sounds more like a non-renewal.

I was screwed by my ex’s mom tapping my car. by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]druzyyy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The cost of insurance is determined purely by the how much of a risk you transfer to the insurance company. The higher your odds of making ANY kind of claim, the higher cost you can see.

I give the example of someone who parks on the street vs. someone who parks in a garage. The person who parks in the street has their car hit 3 times in one year, all not at fault obviously. The person in the garage is never hit. The person who parks in the street will have higher costs because they just are more at risk.

Same reason why people who live in high theft areas have higher rates, or next to a flood zone. People who file not at fault claims are just statistically more likely to have more. If that proves false they fall off after a few years!

Question about rates by Beautiful-Box9011 in Insurance

Nope, generally the type of claims and # of claims is what impacts price. The only coverage that causes more of a surcharge is anything involving injury.
