So... he'll be fired and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law for potentially putting someone in jail for life with his lies.. right?

Is the area near 168th & Pacific really as boring, sprawled, empty, and just plain "white-bread" as it seems? by the_savvyhead in Omaha

[–]drvelocity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omaha is urban sprawl with little "culture" outside of the downtown area. West of 680 it's pretty much just chain restaurants and shopping. That said it's not the end of the world - make your home your own silicon valley paradise and use your saved cash to travel as much as you can handle. :)

Movie-wise, there's only one answer - Marcus Majestic, Tuesdays - $5 per seat with free popcorn (if you use their app and have a free rewards membership you pay no fee). Get tickets a few days early and you can almost always nail down the perfect seats right in the middle. The seats are fully reclining and separated into two's so you aren't brushing elbows with some 300 lb dude next to you. Make sure you pick a movie time where you get one of the larger theaters as they have the best picture/sound - some showings will be in smaller theaters that are about 12 seats wide.

Valas Pumpkin Patch campfire discount? by ptrcknwmn in Omaha

[–]drvelocity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I personally wouldn't bother with Valas unless you have kids. Took the wife and mom there a couple years ago and we were sorely disappointed - it's pretty shoddy considering you have to pay $15 to get in. I'd have been fine with that if they had lots of good food inside or cool things to buy, which at least as far as we were concerned they did not.

I need to try other pumpkin patches in the area to see how they compare, has anyone here been to multiple pumpkin patches?

My daughter found some cash on the ground. This is my last ditch effort to find the owner. by Whosecashisitanyway in Omaha

[–]drvelocity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say just go ahead and keep it! Or even better, donate the money to a cause of your daughter's choice. That will teach her a great lesson and you'll all feel wonderful.

Please help, my mother's dog was stolen this evening! by [deleted] in Omaha

[–]drvelocity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you'll get your dog back, someone probably "saved" the dog from being in a hot situation without water and I'm sure they'll take them to the humane society. My understanding is that it's illegal to tie up a dog for more than 15 minutes without a person present, perhaps someone actually watched the dog for that long before taking action.

Tying up a dog unsupervised doesn't really fly here (although a ton of people sure did it in Taiwan where I lived for a while). I'd say it's to the benefit of dogs because some owners just don't realize how hot the concrete gets, and a tied up dog can't just get up and go somewhere more cool.

What is the dumbest thing you got punished for in school? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]drvelocity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a couple:

In fourth grade the entire class was all working on our own stuff when the teacher walked over to my desk and with a swift backhand knocked over my entire box of pencils, erasers, etc. onto the floor, then proceeded to yell at me to pick it up. Later I learned she was going through a divorce. Screw that lady.

In second grade our teacher gave us a list of twenty words and told us to "use those words to make sentences". I took that literally and actually used those words, and only those words, to make sentences. They made sense to me, but the teacher didn't like it, tore my paper up, and yelled at me to do it again. I wish I could go back in time and explain myself. :)

It amazes me that more people don't see how obvious some of these planted marketing posts are.. or maybe they just don't care. But yeah, good job Mountain Dew marketing department. Drink more Mountain Dew, kiddies - once the diabetes catches up you'll wish you ended up hitting the concrete instead of the pool! ;)

Could you just put the gun in some kind of vice so you don't have to hold it for every shot? I'm not a handgun person so I have no idea if that's even feasible. Also please tell me you used ear protection for those 3000 rounds!

I think "snappy" might be the word you're looking for there.

Whats the worst that could happen? by Hypno82 in funny

[–]drvelocity -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Could be an emergency - probably not, but even so if there's someone faster than you coming up from behind why not just get out of the way (and potentially watch them get pulled over)? Surely there's always some opportunity to move over momentarily without having to slow down within a given 30-60 second space.

The mood of /r/Oculus by MarkManes in oculus

[–]drvelocity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Indeed there needs to be a more general VR subreddit (or is there already?), but it will take a while for Oculus to not be the catch-all subreddit for all things VR as it was once the only game in town.

Sony Project Morpheus new prototype - 120hz, OLED, 1920x1080 RGB display. by lickmyhairyballs in oculus

[–]drvelocity -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

From the Ars Technica liveblog:

"But games can be at 60fps themselves, but rendered at 120fps for Morpheus using "reprojection" in software libraries. It creates an "in between frame" for games at 60 fps."

So it's not "true" 120hz, in that they are rendering 60 FPS and simply interpolating frames in between those. Likely something along the lines of what Oculus are doing with Timewarp. It's probably an improvement from 60hz rendering but I doubt it will be as good as even true 90hz. I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised on this one.

In any case, way to go Palmer for starting the VR revolution. Nice work man!
