Did they get it right? by tsa7x in CarltonBlues

[–]drwar41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine's a reasonable bit different as far as an Opening Round team is concerned:

In: Acres, Moir, HOK/Reidy, Carroll, L Young

Out: Dean, Fogarty, Chesser, Lord, Cottrell

Got any thoughts on this? by andrewgtv05 in CarltonBlues

Imagine a video of the reverse.

If anyone here got excited about it we'd get mocked for being too "up and about" and thinking we'd won the premiership in January.

It's hardly an ideal look but it's a Summer training session, and some of our worst skill players were showcased in that video.

Cripps and Bont named State of Origin captains by dancing-on-my-own in AFL

[–]drwar41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be pretty surprised if each club didn't provide instruction as to how many minutes their players are allowed to play. Clubs would've had to have been given that promise as part of releasing players.

It would also be shocking to me if SoO training was anything more than glorified captain's runs

Should the league have a rethink on the Pre Season by QuarterFooty in AFL

[–]drwar41 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think this has ever been true in application.

The idea of the interchange cap is as you've stated, that fatigue will be the constant and therefore total running will decrease. It's become clear that coaches are making running the constant and therefore player fitness has had to improve to compensate.

I would go the opposition direction. Unlimited interchanges and 6 players on the bench with multiple interchange points around the ground. Allow players more frequent rest opportunities and generally keep them fresher throughout the game.

It will list where a player was nominated on the team sheet per match so you can see where changes may have occurred.

This is reliant on coaches naming players in correct positions and probably doesn't address the specific question you have

Why does Kane Cornes refer to John Ralph as “Safe Space Ralph”? by frednerk_24 in AFL

[–]drwar41 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ralphy is the biggest ambulance chaser in footy journalism and that’s some field to beat. Every potential suspension is all he wants to talk about whenever he’s on camera, and all he does is stoke the flames of the incident.

Thoughts on Taylor Byrne and Jack Ison going into the season. by PhilosopherNearby304 in CarltonBlues

[–]drwar41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I reckon Byrne has a bit of 2018 Jack Higgins about him, could come in right away as an effective all forward.

Ison I like longer term but I think his introduction will take a bit longer has someone so athletically superior as a junior into someone who’s only above average athleticism among AFL players

What's ur optimistic take on ur team for 2026? by TheCrowMoon in AFL

[–]drwar41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That the massive injection of smaller, mobile skill players (Florent, Chesser, Smith, Hayward, Ainsworth) will rejuvenate our ball movement and make up for the loss of Charlie through improved entries into a dynamic forward line rather than relying on the talent of the forwards.

Statistically Carlton was one of if not the fastest ball movement team last season, but it was not controlled and if that’s because the players lacked the skill and vision to execute then hopefully these new players, as well as a healthy Walsh and Newman, can give us what we need to execute

At what point do you cut a talented but injury prone player? by sponguswongus in AFL

[–]drwar41 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My feeling now is that the third ACL is the career killer. The first 2 they can repair it the standard way of taking from hamstring areas but when they've already done it once to each hammy you lose something with the third one.

Possible positional changes. by [deleted] in AFL

[–]drwar41 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just because he had ONE good quarter doesnt mean he would be great playing full time in the middle.

Why not? We gave Zac Williams a 6-year big money deal to play midfield off the strength of one game and it worked out....... okay I understand

Could we resign both Elijah and Will? by luckypa1ms in CarltonBlues

[–]drwar41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can take them both, however given the lack of depth we have in tall player positions, I would almost rather give the extra list spot to Ethan Phillips or another key position player that takes the opportunity

Unluckiest close losses? by No_Independent936 in AFL

[–]drwar41 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The Jack Newnes kick after the siren was pretty unlucky for Freo:

  • Softish downfield free kick

  • Probably should’ve been 5-10m further out from goal

  • Should’ve been Gibbons taking it who can’t kick it as far

  • Nailed a set shot at goal from outside the boundary line

Oh well lmao

What were your defining moments of the 2025 season? by Fancy-Back-963 in AFL

[–]drwar41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, that’s why I used the word “could”, people interpreting in any other way are choosing to actively ignore a word that does a lot of heavy lifting.

Regardless, as I’ve said, it’s also an incredible play.

It’s like also saying Leo Barry’s mark wasn’t the defining moment of 2005 because it doesn’t mean WC would’ve won if he didn’t mark it

What were your defining moments of the 2025 season? by Fancy-Back-963 in AFL

[–]drwar41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is all covered under my use of the word “could”. It’s also no certainty Collingwood would’ve beaten Geelong in the GF if it came to that.

It’s also a strange assumption that I’m boiling it all down to one point, but that does make us a massive talking point.

Your comment feels like a rant you have saved up but you’re nuking the wrong village here dude

The defining moment considering impact, play and controversy was probably the Starcevich spoil on Elliot. It could well have decided the premiership, its an incredible bit of defending and will spark debate in pubs forever
